Although I'm going to be gone for around a week starting tomorrow, I'd like to give the interest check now due to a sale going on for a game that seems perfect for this and for many other things as well. It's called Tabletop Simulator and it's only 10 dollars right now. It will allow us to play together in the game to move our pieces across the game board in an environment that we can create, which will help us visualize our environments better. We would still have stuff posted on this website, but we could also do quick chats in the game as well.

The style of my idea is inspired by Zelda in some ways although can be a little more serious like Lord of the Rings at times. There are multiple fantasy races who were created under different great spirits, so those labeled as children of the fire were made by the fire spirit, for example. These great spirits used up a lot of the energy in the past so now, to conserve energy, take on physical forms such as a watch for the time spirit. They still have potential to control those who they created but only through someone acquiring them and using them for their bidding if they can overpower the spirit. The main bad guy wishes to acquire all of these great spirits so that he has control over every race. The two major timelines that can be decided on to be the focus are the following; one where our heroes stop him from ever taking over (technically he does so in the final battle and we vanquish him then) and one where the previous heroes failed and our heroes have to stop him after he already took over. Some races such as humans are unelemented, meaning they don't have a great spirit who created them and thus can't be controlled this way, as well as some members of different race who have a strong enough willpower to break free and help stop the bad guy after he takes over. There's a third major timeline where the bad guy is the winner so we'd play as the bad guys, if that interests you. There's also more alternate timelines created when one of our games ends in failure and we start over, but these likely won't be part of the major timelines to be played.

The gameplay mechanics involve dice rolling and leveling up your character to gain new powers and upgrade your skills. Instead of a ton of different classes you have to choose from there are more streamlined classes such as a physical one where you learn physical stuff, a magical one where you learn magic, a rogue one for trickery, etc. and you can combine the abilities you learn in each one, picking and choosing which abilities to keep with you in your list to best suit your needs. The fighting will also be more casual then having to worry about every little aspect, focusing a lot of common sense. If you come up with an awesome plan that's bound to work then the game master can add on combat points to your attack at their own discretion. Even if an enemy has high defense, strike his weak point and this defense can be wavered to become much lower than it says on paper, which only works for the standard direct combat. Want to charm the dragon to join your side like Donkey in Shriek? I'd determine how difficult such a task would be and say you need 20 charm points and you only have 15, making your need to roll a 5 or better to succeed. However, I can add points to your "attack" if you come up with a strategy that sounds like it would really work rather then a simple "I'll try to charm him" and roll the dice. Of course if you say something that the dragon would despise then I could subtract points, making you need to roll even higher than a 5, into the impossible range even.

Does this sound like fun to anyone?

Tabletop Simulator? I'm fairly certain your players will be more interested in flipping the table than playing the game if you use Tabletop Sim!

The host can disable that feature or save the game state before that happens so that they can let it out of their system.

(I'm able to get some wifi on my vacation so I can check up on here occasionally)

Around 4-6 people maybe? Don't be discouraged if more people have already expressed interest. Some people might disappear before the roleplay begins and after.

I currently do not have the Tabletop simulator, so me actually playing wouldn't work. But I do plan to have it pretty soon. I'm going to try to score for it this weekend.

Scratch that I got it. =]

I got a new job so disrupted by schedule for a bit but I should have time to work on this some more. Maybe Tabletop Simulator can be just a supplement if people don't have it, but of course if everyone has it then we can all just use it.

The best bet for this is to make drawings of all the enemies so we don't have to use the figures that come with it, which are indeed cool but I have some made up monsters and races that they obviously wouldn't have. If you guys want to speed things up then you can make your own monster drawings and even come up with the entire monster yourselves.

I'll see if I can come up with the character sheets today or tomorrow. That will be on here and not tabletop simulator because it will be much easier that way. Basically, all the typing stuff will be here and the other is for visualization of the maps we move around on, which would stink to try and spell it out on here but still possible if someone doesn't have the game.

I'll try to come up with the different playable races today as well, but don't know how many I could end up with/how detailed they'll be before I get too tired.

I think the idea of using tabletop sim is very ingenious. I would much rather get use if for most of the adventuring and overall visual reference. But I can understand how it can be a major hold up for those who cannot afford it or do not have a desktop.

And as far as the enemies a playable characters go; I'll actually wait on you to come up with all of that material before I decide to delve to far ahead. I tend to get carried away on exciting topics, and do not wish to ruin my excitement by over doing it. I was sort of playing around last night with TT Sim just to get a feel of how the controls are. I heard from a Youtube reference that you can actually upload your own character figure models. I'm not sure how difficult that can get just yet though so I wont ask of too much.

Anyways, I will be looking forward to the character sheets and all of the "To come" information you have regarding this! But to get an idea of what's to come, what kinda of races, classes, and monsters did you have in mind thus far? =]

If you're able to create your own model it would be easy to import into the game. Creating the model sounds very difficult though. I just use the piece that comes with the game where there's a blank wall sticking up that you can paste a picture onto.

I'll get back to you guys on the races and stuff. I'm wondering about one of my ideas where there were titans and dragons as the first life forms and they fought so long and hard that they formed the world how it is today. I'm wondering if I'm subconsciously stealing this idea or not. Sound familiar to anyone?

Here's something I typed up for levels, which will be important in your character sheet.

It mentions classes and those will be like warrior, mage, etc. The classes won't be as complex as in some things so it's mainly a tough guy, a magic guy, a speed guy, etc. and you can learn stuff from multiple classes to help you learn more varied stuff rather than stuck using only mage related things or something. I'll come up with the classes and their abilities after I come up with some other stuff.

Skills can be things like fire magic, pickpocketing, etc. Some races are born with skills that can even change a bit about the skill. For a lot of skills there can be areas of specialization. That means that for a flamethrower attack you can put a point into it's range, power, or speed of casting as well as the general leveling up the skill that does all upgrades but not as much.

It's getting late so I'll just post what I have for the stats and maybe get some opinions. They are like skills where you can specialize in certain aspects of the stat. These specializations are listed after the main stat. For things like charm it depends on the mood of the target, so during combat they will be in anger or fear most likely and have a dramatic increase in your charm stat required to work like you want. Oh yeah, and if you try to seduce a random opponent, if I don't have an orientation planned, I would roll a dice and have a 2% chance or so of being gay so mess with your attempts or improve them depending on circumstance of genders involved.

So anyways, this list is not complete. I'm open for ideas. For magical defense, it works across the board so if a race/monster is immune specifically to something like fire then that would be in their skill while weaknesses would also be there. You can have negative skills. Maybe the automatic things will be called traits in the final product. To keep things balanced for stats that don't have specialization (if they end up with none by the final product) then they will still have a bonus for the same point upgrade as one that you can put your point into.

HP-
Strength-
Magic-
Defense- Physical, Magical, Poison
Mobility- Speed, Flexibility
Intellect- Knowledge, Observation
Charisma- Persuasion, Intimidation, Charm

So wait... for HP–Charisma list, how do we determine our points and what scale are we working on?

When you level up you will get points to put into stats. Large upgrades would probably be around 3 points in a single stat. For Strength it's most often used for attacking, so if you have 20 Strength you can add that 20 into your damage calculations that also take into account the weapon and also a dice roll to add on the final number. Most of the damage comes from strength unless you have skills giving good weapon bonuses or get your hands on awesome weapons. People using their fists can have a skill to boost their strength when unarmed to make up for this, although they'd probably not reach the damage capabilities of those wielding awesome weapons for obvious reasons unless they unlock some hidden power of some sort or use a special power unarmed attack of awesomeness.

Things like charisma are mostly out of battle things and, unless you have equipment to boost it, would be the charisma stat and a dice roll to get the same as or higher then a number needed to achieve something. For example, I think a random soldier could only be persuaded to follow us if you have a number 30 or higher. You have 20 charisma so most roll a 10 to pull this off. You can't keep spaming the attempt because I could raise then number needed every time and even have him get angry at us and do something like storm off completely or even attack (if he was really angry for some reason).

Ah, so those are aforementioned skills. I thought skills were like individual spells--say fireball or whatnot.

Skills can be things always active such as duel wielding not costing penalties, things you activate for your attack such as fireballs, etc.

Very nice and structured. I was gonna suggest the D&D Character sheets, as they have all those statistics already built into them. Is it something you are wanting to do strictly over TT sim, or is there going to be an actually rp thread as well?
