The year is 2120 on planet Earth. The world is full of incredible technological advances from hover based machinery to advanced holographic interface adaptations. Due to pollution in the past a great deal of the planet’s biosphere is artificially maintained and 100% of all natural life is aside humans is artificially managed, whether it be by cloning or by artificial manufacturing. The entire world is run systematically where everything is an easy convenience. You can live you're everyday life without ever requiring to step out of your own home. Everything you could ever want or need is just a lift of a single finger to reach...If you have the money.
One thing that has not changed in the last hundred years is the social dichotomy. In this age there is no
middle class. There is only the rich and the poor. Either you succeed or you fail and if you fail you spend a great deal of your life in impoverished service to the winners. The government has become somewhat of a one sided entity that presents many extraordinary accommodations for the benefit of the wealthy and pampered.
This is especially true in the United States of America which is one of the world’s largest and most renown locales for political corruption. Strong arming it’s right as the economic and military stalwart the country has the greatest technology, largest colleges, most advanced weapons and some of the most brilliant minds in all the world. The pinnacle of this is an international corporate giant known as
Acceleron.
Acceleron came to young children that were sickly and dying and offered them an incredible chance. Acceleron performed the first successful transplant of a disease eradicating, machine heart into children and cured them of their specific alignments. These children, a mix of the poor and the rich, had no medical options prior too and most were on their deathbeds.
However, the surgeries were a success.
The children lived.
These children, the survivors, were granted a living stipend by Acceleron. It was a comfortable 200,000 USD per every year they would live. However, as the years went by, strange happenings started to come to pass around these survivors. The children with the Acceleron hearts had moments in which they demonstrated unusual capacity for conduction and, in some cases, attraction and repulsion. As these children grew into their teen years they started to delve into these unusual occurrences and realized that their operation gifted them with something incredible.
The surviving children had been accidentally given superpowers.
Always revolving around electricity, these children were able to perform amazing feats. At first, the unusual happenings brought confusion to those around them, however, as the children themselves started to use their abilities to take a firm control over their lives, incidents started to happen.
Random situations have popped up around the country. Most are covered up, either locally or federally, however a few were so tumultuous that they reached the world wide news and were broadcast to an infinitely confused nation. Some have gone as far as to call these actions the cause of terrorists from some inferior, envious country. The higher ups and most trusted scientists of Acceleron would call it something else, however. They’d call it the
Neo-Electric Age. For the most part, the common folk are ignorant about the prowess of these young individuals with incredible abilities, despite how rumors spread. Some of these special humans have decided to take advantage of such ignorance, others have decided to take justice into their own hands, others have decided to simply indulge on their abilities and some just try to ignore what they are and live the life they were lucky to be given again.
Things are starting to change, however.
Scales are being tipped as Acceleron prepares to begin something...What it is or what that could cause is still unknown, especially for the young test subjects now free to do however they place with their amazing abilities.
What is in store for these children? What is in store for this world?
In Oakland, California a young man robbed a bank by walking straight through the metal walls.
In San Antonio, Texas a jail had a powersurge in which each and every cell was opened, each security door opened, and every iron door opened and, coincidentally, most of the COs on duty were knocked unconscious as well over 154 inmates escaped.
In Richmond, Virginia there was a massive, 20 story explosion at mall that killed well over 6,000 people and injured almost 12,000 more. It is said that the explosion looked like liquid lightning.
In Las Vegas, Nevada there was a day in which, for 6 hours non-stop, lightning bolts the size of semi-trucks rain down and tore through a residential area causing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage and killing 160 people while injuring three times that number.
In Chicago, Illinois there is rumored to be a flying woman that soars through the air and has even been caught on camera. Another rumor is about the gangs there. Known as Cyprus, the gang supposedly holds a weapon that can incinerate anything the cops have tried to throw at them. They are a terrorist threat that has warranted military action on more than one occasion.
In Tacoma, Washington there is a mass murderer that claimed the lives of 22 individuals already. It’s said that he has, by some means, caused individual’s bodies to eat themselves away, thus rotting them from the inside within days. He’s reached national status as the Black Hand.
Acceleron was started by a man named Adrian Ximenez. He founded it originally as a information systems hardware handler and eventually moved his way up to hardware development, software development before expanding to a multifaceted company that held a strong arm in various different fields of science and industry. Acceleron has three primary subsidiaries, each focused in some vastly different area, and each is the most powerful and most well known in their respective field all around the world.
Currently, Adrian Ximenez is the richest man in the entire world. It’s estimated that he makes about 15 million dollars a minute and holds more say over any countries budget than even their president, the US included. Despite the financial hold it has, Acceleron typically keeps a pleasantly positive reputation about it, often presenting itself as a hero and a savior.
Recently, Acceleron has taken a large interest in bio-technology, such as treatment and surgical devices. The largest, and most recent, news was their recent ability to manufacture human organs and successfully transplant them into living test subjects. The first willing tests performed on humans were a number of sickly children who were given technological hearts to eradicate their respective diseases. Acceleron was very specific in who it chose and, prior too, had never let the information be known that they had been working on such a project at any time. Many request for artificial organs were sent to the company, but they never responded. The corporation chose who they wished to save and typically didn’t inquire afterwards upon the completion of the successful surgery.
Technology is very advanced currently.
A great deal of human labor has been phased out for efficient machinery. Humans are typically tasked for more delicate, emotional, or entertainment purposes when it comes to an occupation or they just inherit all the fruits of the hard work of their predecessors that enabled such a convenient lifestyle. There are current day robots and androids, specialized towards whatever responsibility they are assigned, and a popular model would be the ones assigned to law enforcement.
Law Enforcement robots are known as MPTU [Military-Police Tactical Units]. They are programmed with some of the most advanced training modules from centuries of history and are reinforced to with a body that could resist a point-blank shotgun. MPTUs are designed to always resist lethal force unless another human life is in danger and they hold no capacity for self preservation. They are capable of various types of communication patterns and sociological algorithms that enable easy interaction with most humans. MPTUs are the most advanced, common-day robot and are the only robot of such a degree that doesn’t have any sort of human prosthetic skin or cosmetic.
Other types of robots range There are robots for pets, robots to stimulate the environment, nano-bots, macro-bots, robots used to assist transportation, robots created for human convenience, robots designed for labor, and even various robots that exist out in space. Most do not have the interaction capabilities of the MPTU, however there are rare androids designed to look and act the exact same as humans, though they are typically extraordinarily expensive.
Another large advancement in technology is space travel. Due to large innovations to rocket science, everyday humans are able to travel into space freely. There is a large colony on the moon and Mars in which humans can travel. These colonies are sustained by artificial environments that are created through highly complex technology surrounding the planet in orbit. Although technically and biologically Earthlings, those born and raised in the Mars colonies prefer to be referred to as Martians. Although a great deal of Mars is Acceleron technology, there is a large population that detests Acceleron and commonly ignores their policy. Recently, there have even been anti-Earth radical movements against the policy of Earth hinting at a possible rebellion of Mars from Earth. This would be highly inconvenient for the whole of Earth as a great deal of technological resources are manufactured on Mars.
They hold many names, many titles, and carry themselves with many different personas based upon many different backgrounds. However, one thing is the same for each and everyone of these children.
They all were very sick when they were young. These children had terrifying genetic heart diseases that placed a permanent expiration date on each of their chests. They were so sick that they likely, at one time or another, had only months to live. It was then, in this meek, desolate time, that Acceleron came and offered them a chance. Each child had the option to deny or accept the chance and, when they did accept, they were put through a little bit of pain for a grand amount of freedom.
It was a rare and unusual heart transplant. Instead of receiving a donor’s heart, these children were given a machine heart. Not only would this heart act like their own heart, but it would eradicate the disease from their core, rewriting them into good health. It sounded like an impossible miracle, however it worked!
Each and every patient lived.
These children would realize they held a strength they never knew. They were born with weak hearts, so the like of running and jumping seemed a lofty, impossible dream to them. After the operation these children were able to do so much more than just run and jump. They were windless and they were strong. They could run for ages, at top speeds, and quickly recover. It was almost like not just their hearts had been replaced but their lungs and their muscles too, though it was actually only their hearts.
As these children grew older they reacted strangely with electricity. Sometimes they’d shock a friend, a little more intense than a static pinch, or they’d realize metals were attracted to them as if they were a magnet. Technological devices would fluctuate around them or outright malfunction or they’d realize they could see, feel, sense things that, well, were not normal. These children all reacted to these symptoms differently and there wasn’t any doctor that knew what to say to them as these children were the only one with Acceleron hearts pumping away tirelessly. There wasn’t anything to reference too and Acceleron was always dead silent, even if the payments were always on time.
That’s right. Each surviving child was promised 200,000 USD per year for every year they are alive. For most, that is plenty to live off of, yet still not enough to live lavishly in this day and age where the cost of living is fairly high. Acceleron never really explained why they were going to pay that much or why they had agreed to perform the surgery without having been asked in the first place, but they had also covered all the medical expenses of the child, dating long before the actual implant. They were nothing but generous and asked for nothing in return.
At least, that is what they said.
However, these children sometimes saw, from the corner of their eye, someone in all black following or shadowing them. It was rare, but it happened throughout their lives. There was someone at least once a month. They were too difficult to approach, almost always managing to slip away, and were impossible for the police to track. Whoever they were, they were watching these special children. Whenever an incident happened they were typically nearby, seen or unseen. They at least never brought any harm or caused any trouble for these children, even if they always came off as somewhat dark and threatening.
As these children grew into young adults they started to learn that they could tap into this ability of theirs. Always electric based, these children started to develop powers. Their powers were as different as people were different, thus many developing their strengths differently and some could execute their abilities a lot poorer than others, but they started to get a grip on them nonetheless. Firing a bolt of electricity, flight, controlling machines...These were all but a small scope of the powers these children had. Oftentimes, their abilities were complicated and intricate, yet, without even understanding them, they were able to reflexively manipulate them. None have mastered full control over their abilities, nor have they all completely tapped every ounce of their potential. However, each and everyone has already surpassed what is rightfully human.
Currently, they are an integral piece in the future Acceleron has planned.
Gonna keep things simple!
- Not a single character can fully control their abilities, nor are they able to do mastery level things. So, I implore you to devise somewhat of a plan or map of your abilities. State what the beginning should look like and how you’d like an end to look like in terms of your character’s ability and that way we can build towards that. This map is not required. I suggest it as more of a reference that you can call upon yourself. If it is impossible for you to map out your applied ability then you may not be dissecting it's application well enough.
- Each character can only have one power. One specific ability. All of these specific abilities have to be electric based, as in supported by electricity. If you create a character that can use electricity to fly then you could only fly. If you wish to have the power to create large explosive blasts from your hands then that would be the only ability. As such, I expect to have specific types of characters. Combat types, Support types, Defensive types and Sensor types. You can have a skill that can fall into more than one of these categories, if you are clever with your application, however you couldn’t have the ability to manipulate metal, shoot lightning out of your body, coat yourself in electricity and control technology all at once. Those are all specific types of abilities and each character can have only one power.
- Try to keep arguments to PMs. If you have a problem with someone or an opinion you wish to raise, which has nothing to do with anything constructive for the RP, try to take the conflict elsewhere.
- If you are a power user you will be young. Not too young, because you won’t have control of your abilities at a young age, but the experimental surgeries are fairly new so I shouldn’t see any applications over the age of 25. You are free to state when they received the treatment, how long they’ve been at developing their abilities, and any potential interactions with Acceleron associates freely. I’m not going to bar any creativity within your respective bios.
- No content restriction: No holds bar. Whether it be sex, gore, profanity or such you are free to be as descriptive as you like. If you are easily offended I’d suggest just replacing all the bad words you read with something else. I would like you to play the character as realistically as possible, thus I am not going to censor anything.
- Advanced standards apply. Try to offer at least 2-3 paragraphs per post. That being said, there is no post that is too long. Just keep in mind that, if for any reason, you do have an extraordinary long post don’t be upset if someone does ask for a summary.
- Due to my moderation style, I can deal with any sort of activity. If you are busy and can only post on the weekends or would like a post each day I can try my best to accommodate your needs. Just keep in mind that I am human and do have my lazy days, but I will do my best to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the Rp even in the absence of others and that you won’t be easily left behind either.
- This was brought up in the IC so I figured I would state it: You do not have to make a Gifted Child. You can make an average joe, a detective, Martian, reporter, robot, android, or even an Acceleron associate. Just keep in mind though that I will only be accepting one character per member. So make sure what you initially choose is what you really want.
- Ask questions. If anything doesn’t make sense or you believe I am wrong in deciding something definitely tell me or ask me why I am doing something. I don’t really like to fork over plot elements, but I can make mistakes or misunderstand something or just outright do something stupid. Feel free to let me know how you feel if you need any clarification or, all the better, just want to put me in my place. My word is not law. But, as I did say about arguments, PMs are preferred in that case.
- Have fun. Try to stick with me! I have lots of ideas I would like to share.
