@Prints Avoid

Alright thanks!

As for this whole charm business...I'm kinda on the side of it's absurd that they used it in that circumstance, but also I believe it's definitely not just something that you can just be like 'Oh yeah I'm just going to casually learn this!' If you look back on when anyone was ever taught this they were always told how difficult and not simple it was to learn, some even saying that it might not be possible if I remember correctly (Been a long time...) so that's my two cents into this little topic, so my vote is no for it unless you get a professor to teach it to your character or something? I don't know, but still the way it was introduced into the RP I won't lie kinda ticked me off...

I am sorry but I have to agree as well, Ms. McGonagall even could't learn how to send messages with her Patronus charm and had to have Dumbledor to teach her how to even sent messages with the charm, which pretty much proved that not only the charm was difficult to use but that other uses of the spell like leaving a simple message were even harder. Sure regular casting of the charm to ward off dementors and leithfoid sure! Leaving messages with Patronus charm...yeah give it several more years. But she obviously had the skill as she could successfully summon not one, or two but three of them at the same time I believe and had the help of Dumbledor to teach her. So yeah >.>

(Edit: Did I mention she did it 'WORDLESSLY' omg she too cool *dies*)

I think that the idea that we can cast Patronus charms or not is moot due to the fact we each were required to list what ours resembled.
We are the PCs in the RP and as such should stand a little outside the norm

This is the reconstructed Hogwarts following the Wizarding Wars and in the final battle there were many students performing spells outside of what they'd been taught as the standard curriculum because of Dumbledor's Army training. I could easily justify why the school would teach students more advanced spells if they show an aptitude for casting them.

There could be something about teaching students spells more advanced after the Voldemort stuff. Also, considering the dementors became a danger, perhaps the patronus charm is not as rare as it once was. We can assume the HP community went back to pre-Voldy or play as if maybe some changes took place.

Fair enough, though I still am against the form in which it was used, plus the level. Knowing it and all that is fine I suppose given you have a good point for why, but still the full mastery of the patronus isn't something that's so easy. In any event still helping my friend out so sorry I'm still unable to fully post guys!

I don't think making the entire cast special snowflakes is a good way to run a roleplay.

Hopefully not, since I made my character quite average.

I agree that I too was taken aback by the chatty Patronus @Tatsua Aiisen

Neville Longbottom was as normal as they came in the beginning of the series only to later reveal that he was brave and capable and then let's not forget Harry's romantic interest Cho Chan, she was still noted because she was pretty which was how she stood outside the norm
I wasn't saying we should all be superstars just that like an actor who speaks in a movie we each stand a bit above the NPCs @Tatsua Aiisen

I'm not against having characters that aren't a part of the "Average student" group, but what I do have a problem with (as I said before), is people who base their stories in a universe with established source material, and either directly contradict or otherwise trivialize that source. I find it disrespectful.

Having a single animagus at Hogwarts. Yeah, that's cool! But, having a group of several animagi, and then trying to use James's group as an excuse to say that it should be fine despite not putting in the effort to write an equally compelling backstory to explain it? That's silly.

Whoah, a Metamorphmagus!? On a deep, well-fleshed out character, with no other absurdly rare wizarding powers only possessed by less than 1% of the total wizarding population? Well, sign me up, that's pretty darn cool! "hey guys can i make a shapeshifter like tonks from the movies. and shes an animagus too who can turn into a dragon :D"? 0/10, not swood enough.

Achieving the incredibly advanced Patronus charm, through a great deal of sweat and tears, over the course of several heavily motivated character arcs? Radical! Randomly possessing this absurdly strong, niche charm, which puts you on a level above even most fully trained Witches and Wizards? Totally not radical!

Do you see my train of thought? Oh, and while I'm making people angry...

Well as difficult as the Patronus Charm is Harry did teach at least the rudimentary spell to students of various years in the Room of Requirement

As for Miss Night's Patronus I can only say that hers fits her interest in the dead and the afterlife. She's also Greek and conected to the temple of Hecate a goddess know to be connected in mythology to ghosts, necromancy, and sorcery.

Cerberus guards the entrance of the Greek underworld to prevent the dead from escaping and the living from entering.

These are reasons that caused me to chose Cerberus. @Tatsua Aiisen

So unless some event is created outside the traditional school stuff, anyone want to have an interaction with Lindsey? Wayward charm, tussle, whatever. Make things a little interesting, since I can see this post-breakfast bit becoming dull.

I'm also considering making her slightly older (5th year), since it seems the majority of the players are and it makes it harder to have realistic relations with older students.

I usually don't post or follow the OOCs because they tend to be overwhelmed

Didn't mean to add to the problem but that's what happens when I pay attention to the OOC

I think it's actually a good discussion, provided it remains civil and doesn't escalate.

It seems to me that main issue isn't the Patronus itself. Yes, there's instances of it in canon of school age witches and wizards casting corporeal patronuses in non-stressful situations. However, the thing is. We got to see the process of them struggling and learning with it. The issue comes in when in opening IC post, someone uses such a complex charm for such a trivial task. It sets a precedent for the rest of the RP that some may be uncomfortable with, especially considering there is no background or context for the character even knowing that charm. Just some justification by others after the fact. Some people may be uncomfortable with that precedent, and it's their right to address it, considering they have part in this RP as well. I personally have a problem with it myself but can't really say much as Tatsua seems to have made any point I would have made, though admittedly a bit more aggressively than I would have (which is cool, you do you). That said, it's proabbly best at this point to wait for some input from Tip, but just not talking about it won't help anything.

EDIT: Geez, did I really miss 39 IC posts over the weekend
