@Light: You said he was "well-versed in other schools, showing a rounded set of magical skills, though with little focus on the magics of life preservation and healing." Does that include battle magics, such as fireballs, light beams, etc? If so, how powerful are they?
Also, what are the limits on his creation of thralls/zombies? Is it slow or does it require supplies that are very rare in this world? How many could he raise/control at once? A power like that could get OP pretty quickly. Imagine him "cleaning up" after battle by reanimating a few dozen goblins to fight for him. I really just want some kind of limit to it so that he can't do that.
As for the Fog affecting him, it's mostly noxious gases, like volcanic gasses, but from a very different "hell" dimension where that's the norm and beings evolved to be radically different. We could say that, while the fog doesn't affect him, the dark energy in his body draws monsters to attack him and that, for whatever reason, he can't raise them to fight for him. That would keep him from spending time in the fog and give us an explanation for why they are drawn to us when we're near the fog.
He could also just tell us he's a necromancer, a perfectly benign occupation among some races. That's just a suggestion, though, so that we wouldn't be uneasy around him due to his undead nature.

@SimplyJohn: So she's got a bit of ESP power? Or can she read auras/energy patterns and the like? I assume the "Fae-touched" thing was just a rumor, but we could say that she's been blessed by them or something if you want to.
The resistance to the fog could be a result of a mixed heritage. That's not that unusual considering how many races are on this world.

Kismet's definitely some form of halfbreed, but luckily whichever of her parents wasn't human was also definitely one of the 'pretty' creatures lurking in the wilds. No orc or goblin blood in this girl. As to exactly what they were, no-one knows for sure, and to be honest given her talent for keeping her secrets to herself I don't think anyone's too worried about finding out. There's nothing overtly magical about her though, and she has no great mystical powers bestowed on her due to her heritage, other than a slight resistance to hostile magics and charms, such as the Fog.

Her Empathic powers are a mixture of aura-reading, psychology and body reading, partly due to her natural affinity but mostly from her upbringing dealing with 'completely honest and pure-hearted tradesmen'. She can usually pick up when someone is lying to her based on the changes in the way their eyes move and other subtle gestures most people wouldn't notice, this does require her to be at quite close range to the person to work though, since seeing the body language would be important.

The Portal Sense ability also ties into the aura-reading to a degree, as Kismet can read the natural energies of locations as well as people. This is all subconscious for her though, and usually manifests as an uneasy feeling whenever she's near a weak point between worlds, which would occur just prior to an actual breach.

Ok, that makes sense. Tell me, would she be able to tell that Light's character was undead, or just get an uneasy feeling around him, or none of the above? I just want to know how powerful her energy sensing would be.

She'd just feel uneasy around him at first, but might pick up on the undead thing after a while in the same party together. Having said that she's not prejudice in any way, the worst things that have happened in her life so far have been at the hands of regular humans and so she'd probably trust him more knowing he wasn't one of them.

@TheUnknowable
Character Sheet updated to detail each school of magic. He will not be using the (healing) subschool of Conjuration at all. But it is a subschool that exists.

The process of raising dead in Mym can be very different than Adamar's home plane. This is your world, and the machinations of such magic is entirely up to you.

As for telling people about his necromancy, he would be used to such practices being taboo in his home plane. He would not be quick to divulge such secrets to newcomers on Mym.

Magic on Mym on much more innate, and more difficult to use, as the magical energy of the world is more erratic and in constant flux. Magic such as he used on his homeworld seems like it would tap into powerful flows of magic, rivers if you will. On this world however, the magic is subject to incursions from other worlds which constantly disrupt it. Instead of rivers, you get puddles, or tiny streams, maybe even weak whirlpools.

Casting large-scale spells would require that you create an artificial pool of energy to tap into by tying multiple sources together. These sources could be location based, or be tied to objects/herbs/ingredients/etc.

If we went with the above description it would limit his powers to whatever sources he could find, keeping him from going OP despite the technical fact that he's insanely powerful. Would it work with your character idea, though?

Then I think the best way to go about it, is that I will try to cast spells, and if they are complex or powerful spells, then you as the GM will just decide (based on the circumstances) if the spell works, doesn't work, or works differently than intended.

On the other hand you might also get a sudden surge, changing a simple Ember spell intended to light a campfire into an unstoppable torrent of flames which burns down all our tents.

Depending on how long he's been on Mym he may also have learnt to harness a store of energy in things like focusing crystals. These would allow him to have instantaneous access to high-level spells when needed, but would basically be one-shot, irreplaceable items which couldn't be recovered within the scope of the adventure.

The most likely use for these would be as a catalyst for summoning powerful thralls or animating corpses for a short period, but once the power had burned off the minions would fall apart once more.

Just wondering how Kismet would deal with mystical or undead creatures, since her bow and knives are simply mundane at the moment. Would you mind me switching her hunting knife for a cold steel blade instead?

I'll start the IC in a couple of hours. I've got to type up a bit of a history lesson for Mym first, though.

Damn these magic-users and their libraries! Couldn't we have met in a tavern like proper adventurers? At least then we could've gotten happily drunk before setting off on our suicide mission.

It's a guild hall. I'm sure there are plenty of intoxicating herbs and alcoholic celebratory beverages around.

You can never get too many intoxicating herbs and alcoholic celebratory beverages before a dangerous mission. :)

Just to note, I'll be out of town between next Thursday 30th April and the following Monday 5th of May. Should still have online access though so will probably still be posting during that time.
