@Light: You said he was "well-versed in other schools, showing a rounded set of magical skills, though with little focus on the magics of life preservation and healing." Does that include battle magics, such as fireballs, light beams, etc? If so, how powerful are they?
Also, what are the limits on his creation of thralls/zombies? Is it slow or does it require supplies that are very rare in this world? How many could he raise/control at once? A power like that could get OP pretty quickly. Imagine him "cleaning up" after battle by reanimating a few dozen goblins to fight for him. I really just want some kind of limit to it so that he can't do that.
As for the Fog affecting him, it's mostly noxious gases, like volcanic gasses, but from a very different "hell" dimension where that's the norm and beings evolved to be radically different. We could say that, while the fog doesn't affect him, the dark energy in his body draws monsters to attack him and that, for whatever reason, he can't raise them to fight for him. That would keep him from spending time in the fog and give us an explanation for why they are drawn to us when we're near the fog.
He could also just tell us he's a necromancer, a perfectly benign occupation among some races. That's just a suggestion, though, so that we wouldn't be uneasy around him due to his undead nature.
@SimplyJohn: So she's got a bit of ESP power? Or can she read auras/energy patterns and the like? I assume the "Fae-touched" thing was just a rumor, but we could say that she's been blessed by them or something if you want to.
The resistance to the fog could be a result of a mixed heritage. That's not that unusual considering how many races are on this world.
