Welcome to this Fantasy Civilization RP!

Status: Long closed.

RP restarted here: roleplayerguild.com/topics/157987-civi..

Basic Rundown:

This roleplay is turn-based. Meaning you get one action every turn. You will be presented with choices labeled alphabetically on how to advance your civ. Every turn, your population grows and you are presented with new choices and sometimes hardships.
The roleplay begins with your people coming to a new land, an unexplored continent where anything can happen. You have but a few hundreds with you, and your supplies are low. Perhaps you came here as settlers, or perhaps you fled after your homelands were destroyed, or perhaps you are simply a new civilization that has sprung upon this continent. Whatever you are and wherever you are from, you must find ways to adapt, survive and thrive here.
Most certainly there are other civilizations on this continent and other races that may become your allies or enemies, but you do now yet know.

The first turn generally looks like this:

Each action from A to I present different opportunities and different consequences (good and bad). You may choose one of these per turn and preferably write up a post about how you, for example, "Improve food". Depending on how good and thought-out your post is, you may combine one choice with another. For example, while improving your "food", you discover how to create farms and thus also improve your infrastructure in the process. the X-action is an action of your own that is not in the list of choices from A to I. You may write and attempt whatever you want in the X-action, and I may or may not grant you what you hope for.

Let's go through the things step by step:
Population - Is how big your civilization is. Later on when you build new towns, I will list your towns and cities and what their population is as well as show a total.
Military - How big your military might is in the count of forces. Keep in mind that the experience, skill and equipment of the soldiers count into how well your battles will go, as well as what different composition of units you use and how you manouver them.
Food Level - Measured from Very Low to Very High, and determines how well your people fare. A low level of food means lesser growth and might cause starvation (people start dying) but a too high food level might cause your people to grow fat and weak.
Resources - What types of resources you have at your disposal. Can be oil, minerals, lumber, food, hides, livestock etc. You can use these to trade with other nations and civilizations.
Wealth - How wealthy your people are considered to be. Poverty may result in discontent among the lower-class, but a too high wealth may result in luxurious spending which may crash your economy if your economy takes a bad blow.
Trade - How much you trade with other nations and what you gain from it. Measured from Very Low to Very High, but only once it is existant.
Growth - How well your population is growing. Determined mostly by food level but also morale and other things. Measured from Very Low to Very High.
Morale - The morale and spirit of your people. Measured from Very Low to Very High, with "Indifferent" acting as a middle-point. This determines how well you fight, how well your people works and generally how well things are going in general.
Foreign relations - A list of other civilizations you've met and how you feel towards each other. Ranges from Hated Enemies to Beloved Allies. Also determines how well you manage to trade with them and how they react towards you when interacting with non-player nations.

So how do I start?

Easy! This roleplay begins unlike many other roleplays. Here, you choose your race right off the bat in the IC thread. You will be presented with a list of available races (or asked to make your own, which requires approval in the OOC first), and everything will be determined in the IC thread. I will create a map where you will choose a starting spot after you've chosen your race. From there, the roleplay begins with turn 1.
A sort of "fog-of-war" will be present on the map, that will show you how much of the continent you've explored and what other nations you can see. When you meet another nation and manage to befriend them, you will be able to see their holdings on the map. Keep in mind that if you have not met a non-player nation but another player has, it will still be seen on the map so I expect you not to metagame.

TL;DR: once the IC first post is up, you may jump right in! You don't even need a sheet! If you choose a custom race, you MUST specify it with weaknesses, strengths and averages in the OOC first.

You already started! How do I jump in?

If you have a custom race, post it in the OOC for approval first. If it's a listed race, you may choose it in the IC, only you'll do all the steps at once: choose a race, a spot to settle, a color to represent your nation, and lastly the name of your new settlement!
Check the map in the first post of the IC for available spots and what colors are taken already.

Rules and regulations:

All roleplays have rules. I expect you to know the basics like:
  • Don't godmode
  • Don't metagame
  • Don't be an asshole to other players

However there are some other rules you should know about:
  • Never wipe a player out completely unless he or she has given his or her consent
  • Don't focus on "winning", it's about playing the game and enjoying it together
  • It is okay to attack or raid another civilization freely as long as you have discovered them and scouted out the target first.
  • Don't expect to never be met with setbacks or hardships. I will give you all good and bad consequences as well as random events depending on your choices.
  • My word is law. As the GM, I reserve the right to toss you out of the RP should I deem you unfit to play with us.

Also, here are some regulations that aren't "DON'T"'s
  • Non-player nations are free to be conquered, raided, wiped out or otherwise warred with however you want.
  • Any questions and OOC-chat should be kept here in the OOC thread (obviously).
  • When plotting with a player against another player, I recommend you take it to PM to avoid metagaming.
  • When plotting as mentioned above, I want to be kept in the loop as the GM, to avoid misunderstandings and to avoid conflicts OOC.
  • You may otherwise choose PM or public IC post however you wish when communicating with other nations.
  • If you don't want to play one civ anymore but rather want another, tell me in the OOC and I will arrange a "natural disaster" for your
  • people or take it over as a non-player civ.
  • When starting over with a new civ, you will be given some bonuses to help you catch up, but it's not much.

Question:
I feel it weird to have this 'fog-of-war'
As I HOPE it means is that civilizations don't know the exact lay-out of the map, and they don't know where people are either, but it would be insane if Mountains and large, incredibly noticable objects such as massive towers were also cut out from ones view. At that point it becomes more like a game than an actual functioning thing.

Where am I supposed to write my nation sheet?

The fog of war is transparent, not pitch black. You will see everything, it's just as a sort of indication of what area you've explored and not.
Edit: You wont see other nations until you've explored the area though, but the layout is visable to you. It's up to you to RP not knowing the exact layout IC.

As to the sheets, you're not really supposed to write one! All you have to do is choose a race in the IC and start up from there. You're free to write a sheet with history and such if you want to in the character section, but other than that you basicly start from scratch so the only thing that matters is your race and what you do from there.

Edit: Added a mention in the OP saying "You don't even need a sheet!"

Some sort of minotaur (I think)

I don't believe that such is how the game works, it says New Lands, New Glory, basically meaning that we start from the basics, we (players) don't have a pre-existing empire/kingdom/khanate/imperium/super tribe.

Kaiser is right. You will start off with basicly 200-300 in numbers depending on the overall growth of your race. You cannot claim specific regions, especially not such a huge area on the map for yourself. You start with but a single settlement.
I advice you to carefully read the OOC to be fully aware of how this RP will start. If you feel like I haven't explained it well enough, I'll be glad to add more information!

Also, Kaiser, I like your intro post but it's super duper long! All you really had to do was choose dwarves :P the massive background can go here in the character section! Although I wont discourage you from writing these posts, you obviously put a lot of thought and inspiration into this. Well done.
Oh and... How many men, women and children? If any children at all, that is.

Edit: Also ultikana can you specify the averages, weaknesses and strengths of the minotaur? Their growth, tech, etc?

Edit 2: Kaiser, when you mean tundra, do you really mean the eastern peninsula and not the western one? Seeing as east is leaf-tree and grass plains while west is pineforest and hills.

250 Ironborne Legionaries, 175 of which are dwarven men, the remaining being dwarven women.

I know what you mean. I feel like the area of the North-western part of the continent fits better, but I >LIKE< the very tall mountain of the North-east. Granted, both locations are in the northern quadrants, so, if we follow climate zones, that would be where snow would be, so..

Whilst I would mostly enjoy a slight little terraforming, I guess I could go to the North-western part and still claim that there's a tall mountain equivalent to the one in the North-east.

175 men, 75 women then!
Your call where you wanna be, man. I see what you mean with the climate zones and all but the reason there's snowy climates in the west and not just generally in the north is because the western mountains are much more elevated (higher above sea-level) than the eastern peninsula. Also seeing as it's fantasy I didn't really care much for climate zones. North is generally colder, yes, but this is but one continent on this world that we know of. Who knows where on the world-map this continent is actually located?

How big is the scale on the map? 1 : 1 000 000? 1 : 5 000 000?

I was afraid you were going to mention that, nevertheless I will make a heartfelt suggestion to make the north-eastern part of the map into snowy paradise.

Sorry bro ):

Oh gosh I have no idea... When it comes to these questions and like "How much time is a turn, exactly?" I'm just like... shit.
But in all honesty, the time of a turn can vary. Hours, days, weeks depending on what you're doing but for the sake of fluency it will be one of those things that will never be explained because it just complicates things too much.
When it comes to the scale of the map, just imagine it would take you several days to travel from the north-eastern mountain to the coast closest. So it's quite big. Idunno in what scale bro.

I live a couple of days away from the sea, but when I get my mountain-side estate (Dwarven City) finished, then I'll be able to watch the sea in content.

Judging by your description...

A human can approximately walk 96 miles a day. Taking breaks and sleep in to account I decide that you walk 14 hours in one day making it 56 miles (96 / 24 * 14 = 56). One mile is approximately 1.6 Kilometres, making it 90 kilometres a day (56 * 1.6 = 89.6 ~ 90). I assume several days is more than a pair of days and less than a week, so I settled on four days making it 360 kilometres between the mountain and the nearest coast. Using a ruler I estimated it to be 3 centimetres between the middle of the mountain to the closest coast. this would mean the map has a scale of 1 : 12 000 000 (360 / 3 = 120). Thank you for your answer!
