Would anyone be interested in a RP like that? This is the plot and such:
London's Burning is falling down, falling down, falling down.
London's Burning is falling down, dead fair ladies.
London, a city of steam. The entire city runs on the power generated by this confusing power source, the same water that keeps people alive powers the machines used to suppress them. The Steampunk Era is in full force in this alternate timeline, where London is not just a city, but a collection of all classes bound into one dysfunctional unit of intrigue and subterfuge.
The Burning is that higher power you wonder about, that nags the back of your mind. It's not a deity that's watching your every move, it's not your boss at work that keeps such close tabs on you, it's the Burning. The Burning has a long history in this town, founded by the Governor in the Renaissance Era. Governor Burmingham named his unit Burmingham's London Intelligence for Governmental Hideouts and Trafficking, or BLIGHT. However, time has warped it into simply the Burning.
The Burning is falling. Well into the 17th century, the Steampunk Era has set in and people are beginning to think for themselves. Disappearances are occurring more and more frequently, unexplained and questionable deaths are becoming noticed, and there is even a newspaper that has started up that isn't run by a Burning operative.
The city is circular, stretching closer to the sea with the Thames opening out and forming a huge harbor at the estuary.
The outskirts of the city are inhabited by the rich and powerful, the Outer Circle being formed of large houses and mansions owned by the Great Houses of London. Inside this circle is a slightly less wealthy circle, the Lesser Houses, though these still form part of the Outer Circle. The closer towards the centre of the city, the closer the buildings. The Inner Circle is inhabited by by the poorer citizens of the city some who live in small terraced houses or wooden buildings in what are essentially shanty streets. This arrangement may seem counter-intuitive, however the city grew up from poor villages and slowly grew into wealth.
London's society revolves around two main areas, the Nobility in the Outer Circle and the black market in the Inner Circle. The latter is known about by the former, but little is done about it so long as they cause no trouble for the higher classes.
Mobility between the two Circles is difficult; a work permit or travel permit is required for the poorer citizens to leave the Inner Circle, but the Nobility have free rein over the city. The easiest way for the poorer citizens to travel is by boat along the Thames as there is an unlimited amount of trade traveling along it. Within the Outer Circle, a small network of noble pleasure houses have existed for several generations. This has been mirrored in the Inner Circle, though these do not have the same prestige.
The city is well protected by high walls around both Circles, with gates keeping citizens in and threats out. Guards and sailors protect the city.
tl;dr: Steampunk London with a secret society that is falling apart and watching your every move, you can choose to be part of the Burning, the nobility, the business class, or the lower class.
I only have 5 simple rules.
1. Play nice, this is a mature RP but keep the conflict in character, mkay?
2. Semi-lit. I'm not asking for novels, but think before posting, "Will this further the plotline?"
3. There's no magic. Technology, yes. Magic, no.
4. While I encourage all kinds of nastiness, don't be unrealistic. No one is head of this and that and a member of this too and don't forget a smuggler. Pick a profession or two, MAX three if one is a front. And that's reeeeeally pushing it.
5. Have fun, don't stress out if you have writer's block or you slip into a bit of magic. Just explain it away as a new invention or whatever.
