The sheet is looking great now. You still haven't changed the ability that makes people blind, however. In the same way that Devin has to concentrate in order to remove his blindness, he also has to concentrate in order to keep someone else blind. As soon as he stops concentrating then their vision needs to return.

We are still going to accept the sheet, however! Just please change this one detail before posting the sheet over in the character thread. Glad to have you aboard!

(As for the dog, it's nothing to do with powers etc. I just don't like the idea of having pets on campus. It raises all kind of insurance questions for me... Haha. To clarify; I do appreciate that Nyx would have been more than a pet, but I still don't want animals in the school. I think you can still explore the alternate approach to things by giving him a cane. The perspective is changed by his disability, not whether he has a dog or not.)

Really great job on fleshing out the personal statement. The sample post is also look good. As Shard said, all we need to see from you is more detail in the abilities. But we've already discussed in the OOC what she can do, so just add those specifics that Shard mentioned into that section and then go ahead and post the sheet in the character thread. Cool character and overall the sheet is good with enough information. The only thing we would like to specify is that we feel there should be more restriction on the power. We think that in the same way Abbey can only warp when he is being seen, he should also only be able to warp to places he can physically see. It should be a fast-paced but short-distanced power, we feel.

If you're fine with making that alteration, then Abbey is also accepted! Just fix up the power and then go ahead and post it in the characters thread. We're glad to have you; and I think on a personal level, our character will get along well.

Edited the power discussion part to show the blindness leaves when Devin breaks concentration.

I understand the dog thing. I might be a little close to this situation since I work with blind people often and have been a volunteer trainer for seeing eye dogs for several years. I understand you might not know a lot about the difference, but for a blind person who is going to a completely new place having a dog is a much better situation as the cane only tells you what is in front of you whereas a dog can assist with commands like "food" and would take the owner to a specific place like a kitchen or cafeteria.

The cane isn't a big hiccup, but it will require my character to constantly ask where he is or where something is for a large amount of the role play. Would it be acceptable to say that the school isn't allowing him to bring a dog and maybe it is something he is upset about?

Also when you talk about insurance and things like that the government (speaking of USA right now and Korea and Viet Nam since I have experience there.) actually has tax deductions for making a place more disability friendly and that includes returned funds from insurance companies and construction firms.

You can post pretty much however you like. The general premise, if it wasn't clear from my post, is that the students are all waiting for a bus to take them further up the hill to the institute. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce your character to us. If they are more of an introvert, you might have them observe the actions of others. More extroverted characters might even begin introducing themselves to one another.

I hope my post gives you enough scope to work with... I'll be honest, I'm pretty exhausted right now haha. One thing I really would appreciate though is if you tell me and Shard if we screw up as GMs. If we set up a situation that limits characters then please let us know; we've been in that kind of roleplay before and we'd much rather everyone just be open so we can move things forward if that kind of thing arises.

Yeah, the insurance thing was more a joke on my part. I don't want animals on campus because I feel it limits characters. Having a companion with them at all times negates the need for interaction with other characters, and there's only so many times I can read "He stroked the dog's head" and the like without losing even more of my sanity.

The route of the institute not allowing him to bring a dog is preferable and is the one I assumed you would take. It will be much more interesting for him to have previously had a close companion whom he relied on, only to then be forced to be more independent.

I am sorry I didn't know my example post was so dog heavy. I figured I was able to show that I could write about my character and never planned on using the dog as a sort of filler or function as my characters 'interaction' replacement.

A side note I would like to point out is that social people prefer dogs to canes as they are high in attention grabbing and are only really used by blind people with high levels of extrovert social personalities. After all most people like dogs and will ask to pet them. The people I work with are almost all dog owners. The one who owns a cane does so because he "hated having to talk to so many people". That is an actual quote. I couldn't stop laughing because this is a guy who is easily the hardest to small talk with.

Another fun fact actually (Again I want to stress I am not arguing or 'fighting' for the dog. I understand. More just enjoy talking about it since training and assisting families with blind members is what I do for a living.) The animals companionship was going to play a key role in helping Devin stay calm. In guide dogs we train what we call "Stress Down Position" This is for when a person becomes highly stressed or scared. The dog will act in a caring fashion like like the persons hands or put their paw on the persons leg. Considering Devin's powers can go off during these times he would likely write a letter to the school appealing their no dog policy. Could I get a reply to that letter? I can use it to help boost my example post which I am going to review and edit so it doesn't feature so much dog talk.

I think you've misunderstood me! I wasn't referring to your example post. I've been in a lot of roleplays where characters have animal companions and it's just something I don't personally like, and when I mentioned it to Shard he agreed. We also have to keep in mind that there will be objective-based missions later on in the roleplay that a dog would be impractical for. In general it is just easier as a GM to plan things without having to consider: "What about the dog?"

Gotcha! Writing letter now. Expect it in the next ten minutes or so. The addition to the example post will be Devin's parents reading the letter to him and then helping him come to terms with having to leave Nyx at home.

I'm really impressed with the quality of the writing so far, and people are already beginning to set up their paths for development. Ah no Vesuvius, the post wasn't unusable! I could have just had Mason react to all the offers he got for the light. It's actually my fault, I kind of expected something like that would happen. It's always difficult trying to decide what to put in the first post..! As more people are posting, there becomes more things to react to. It will improve I'm sure.
