@JohnSolaris Ah, well that was the reason for my last question. I was thinking my character would have helped the Sorcerer-King complete the ritual for personal reasons, and helped him rule as second-in-command, however as war went on for some reason he turned and gave the enemy invaluable information. Then in the final battle he stuck down and killed the Sorcerer-King, ending magic and his own life. But the magic kept his soul alive and he rebuilt his body. He would not be as powerful as yours, since he didn't actually fuse with the Dweomerheart (spelled?) But he was originally a very powerful mage. I will also make his personality completely different so that the characters are not similar. This is just the rough idea, I'll flesh it out more if you accept it. Its not that far-fetched, really.

Sorry, but this conflicts with the sorcerer-king's backstory in a few ways.

1. The sorcerer-king didn't rely on anyone's help when he performed the ritual, nor did he have any collaborators of any sort.

2. The sorcerer-king did not have a second-in-command. Solitude is one of his main themes; he was a lone tyrant standing far above any and all of his subjects. There's no way he would've had anything as close as a second-in-command.

3. If the sorcerer-king suspected anyone of treachery, he would've used mind reading to learn the suspect's true intentions. And he had the power level of a god when he was merged with the Dweomerheart, so practically no one would've been able to withstand his telepathic assault or hide anything from him. He also ruled through fear, so he would've brutally and publicly executed any suspected traitors. It's highly unlikely for any of his subordinates to give information to the enemy and live to tell the tale.

4. If you've read my character's backstory, you should have seen that it wasn't any rebel mage who killed the sorcerer-king, but an eldritch abomination summoned by the rebels as their last resort. The rebels themselves simply weren't powerful enough to kill the sorcerer-king when he still had his godlike level of power.

So if you want to play as a survivor from the previous age of magic, you'd have to be either a rebel or one of the people oppressed by the sorcerer-king, not a secretly traitorous second-in-command. And you still can't have Tech powers in addition to magic.

I understand. I skimmed the back story a little, I'm sorry about that. Okay, how about he was the leader of a small theving crew and the mind behind the rebellion. The one who started, and organized the entire thing. He did not help summon the abomination, he actually was against it. He was facing down Evan for a final hopless battle, when the others panicked and summoned the abonimation. He was so close he got caught in the release of magic from the destruction of the Dweomerheart. Does that work better? No tech powers.

Sorry, but that still doesn't really work. The rebellion wasn't organized by a single person; it was the result of a number of independent rebellions joining together. There was also no release of magic from the destruction of the Dweomerheart. The thing that devastated the planet was the sorcerer-king's battle against the abomination, which lasted a few days and raged across Earth. The abomination couldn't have been summoned by a few guys that panicked; it was a carefully coordinated ritual by a large number of mages when all else was hopeless. Something like that couldn't have been done without planning.

You seem to be trying to set up your character as the sorcerer-king's arch-nemesis and the person most pivotal in his downfall. I can't allow that. The sorcerer-king was brought down by the collective will of all the people he oppressed, not any single individual; his actions and the consequences of said actions were global rather than personal in scale. At most, I can let your character be one of the leaders of the rebellion, possibly one that was against summoning the abomination. No personal rivalry with the sorcerer-king.

Name: Edith Blakeslee

Side: Tech

Sex: Female

Age: 29

Race: Human Cyborg

Appearance: Edith is a tall, slender woman with a slim yet athletic build. She's got a light brown skin tone, and long, brunette hair usually tied in a ponytail. Due to her cybernetic modifications, several of her body parts have been replaced. The most prominent change is a dark, reflective and featureless mask that covers Edith's whole face, which also functions as an enhancement to her sense of sight and hearing. The cost of this is the fact that this mask is attached and connected directly to her brain, meaning that behind the mask most of her actual face has been removed. Other modifications are resistant and slick looking legs, and a cybernetic arms.
Edith commonly dresses with beige, baggy cargo pants tucked under black military boots and a black leather jacket over a moss green tank top. She also tends to use biker gloves.

Personality: Edith is, by nature, a proud, strong-willed and confident woman. She heavily values individuality and the different quirks that make any single person unique from others. Due to this, she hates the mask she's been made to wear, believing it is made like that to make her one of many, and effectively erases her identity.
She's very determined to finish whatever job she has been given, and will not quit until it has been completed in a satisfactory way. Because of her past, she's very attached to kids, and wants to have one of her own.
She has a liking towards rock music and similar genres, disliking electronic music on its majority.

Faction: N/A. Edith is currently a freelancing mercenary.

Biography:

Skills:
Athletic: Even before getting her cybernetic enhancements, Edith was at a formidable physical condition. Now, thanks to her augments, she's now even stronger and faster than before, capable of keep running at high speeds for a very long while. She's also quite nimble.
Acrobatics: On par with her athletic prowess, Edith's also capable of performing stunts on par with an average gymnast.
Close combat: Edith is extremely capable of dealing with 4 or 5 average humans at the same time while being unarmed. She's also got some experience with melee weapons.

Abilities:
Cybernetic modifications: Pretty much self-explanatory, most of her body was modified and improved to make her a better soldier overall. These changes include:
  • Enhanced memory: Due to the modifications made to her cerebral cortex, Edith is now able to recall memories with great precision. However, this only applies to things that happened after her modifications (for obvious reasons).
  • Enhanced sight and hearing: Her mask allows her to easily see things that normal humans would need a glass lens to fully capture their details. Her hearing also picks up tones above and below the ones that a common ear would perceive. Also, due to the nature of her mask, her field of vision is drastically improved, leading her to seeing in her peripherical vision like she was staring directly at it.
  • Physical improvement: Simply put, Edith has much more stamina than an average human. Along with the ability of running very fast for very long, Edith now doesn't need to eat, drink or sleep, the energy to do different things generated by a powercore located next to her heart.
  • Retractable blades: Edith has short, retractable sawed blades inside her arms, near her wrists. These blades are fairly durable and sharp.
  • Short-range needle gun: On her left wrist there is a small gun that fires heated needles in a straight line. They're very sharp and resistant, even when taking into account their miniscule size.

Possessions:
  • A small handgun
  • A survival knife

@Behemoth542's character is accepted.

In case anyone is wondering, yes, the one who killed Edith's husband and kidnapped Edith in her backstory was indeed my character Alice. Her nightmare in my first IC post as her depicted exactly that incident. This is a subplot @Behemoth542 and I are going to develop together.

@JohnSolaris & Everyone else,

I've been thinking about this for a few days now, so this isn't a rash choice, but I can't seem to get into this role-play. The setting is amazing, the players are pretty cool, and I adored making my characters - but I'm having a ton of trouble even writing a post up. I'm just not getting inspired and I apologize for that. I hope you all have fun and wish you the best of luck!~

I'm seeing a lack of activity in this game. Maybe people just aren't interested in it anymore? Whatever the case, I'm going to leave the game like this. If enough people are still interested, and show it by posting IC, then I'll post too. And if no one else posts, the game is just going to be forgotten, which I can accept.

I'm going to be honest and say that I've mostly lost motivation in hosting this game, due to the lack of activity. If the premise itself isn't enough to attract interest, I don't think there's much else I can do about it. And currently I don't think we have enough active players to keep the game going. I'd advise people to stop posting in-character unless a few more people sign up or otherwise show interest, since it's a waste of time to post in a game that's just about dead already; a few IC posts aren't going to save it. If no more people show interest, then let the game die.

Telling everyone not to post in IC tends to be an effective way to kill activity.

I wouldn't even call the RP slow by advanced standards, and if people want to post they will, if you can't be bothered then just say that and close the thread, because that's something else entirely.

Though I can tell you with some certainty that the major mistakes are

1. Character restrictions which don't apply to a select few, causing power inbalance
2. Completely free-form RP, essentially the equivalent of throwing toddlers with arm bands into the pacific ocean and expecting them to build a house.
3. Too large a playing field, makes character interactions too difficult.
4. Too broad, too many factions, not enough people to fill it, it's basically Oblivion at this point.

My advice in future, for what it's worth.

Amazing setting, use it to plan something smaller, a specific event perhaps or even some sort of turf-confrontation in a single city, don't throw two entire worlds together and expect natural character interaction.

Don't use OP characters as your PC.

Just my two cents, disregard at will, it's only based off watching about a hundred RP's just like this one die.

Can I even "close" the thread? Maybe I'm blind, but I can't seem to find such a button anywhere.

Also, you bring up some valid points. This is a roleplaying forum, but I was asking the players to worldbuild as well. I'm new here, so I didn't know if this kind of thing would work out; but now it's pretty clear that it wouldn't. Since the concept itself is flawed, I will close the game, as you asked.

As I said above, I can't find a "lock thread" button anywhere, so the only thing I think I can do is to change the "signups always open" in the title to "closed". If there are any ways of locking or deleting the thread, please tell me, and I'll do so immediately.

EDIT: Please don't reply to this thread anymore. If you know how to lock or delete a thread, you could PM me. Otherwise I'll go ask someone on chat or something. The game is closed, so it should no longer be bumped.

EDIT 2: I asked people on chat. Apparently it isn't possible to lock a thread. Oh well, let the thread sink then. I've already put "closed" in the title.
