"Please keep an eye on him, I've given medicine to prevent an infection. Other than that he should be fine," Athena spoke with a soft but tired tone. Mentally she swore if she had another case like this she would cry, was it so hard to keep an eye on your child? She had been at the ER for nearly twenty hours. One more and she would be off for the day, she planned straight on sleeping. A part of her wondered if her husband was home yet, usually their timings were mismatched but both of them understood how hectic it could get when it came to work. There were times where she missed him but he often sent her texts, she didn't want to get started on how frightening it was it with the line of work her husband worked under. Sighing softly she waved the mother who ushered her child out of the room in a hurry. The sun was beginning it's descent, perhaps she could call her husband up and ask if he was home.
"Athena, you're off soon right?" Her friend Santana called out, she was one of the nurses that worked under her, she was friendly even when she was sleep deprived. "Yeah, thank goodness for that. Feet are killing me," she replied. "Well you have the day off! So use it wisely," she said before winking as she nudged her playfully though Athena replied her gesture with a weak smile. She had hoped her husband was home, they could spend some time together perhaps watch a movie or catch dinner. She as incredibly proud of the man considering how he was dedicated. "That man always puts work first, so I guess we'll have to see if I can use tomorrow as I would like to," she muttered. Santana only chuckled as she slapped her hand on her back in hopes of encouraging her friend. "Oh yeah, there's one patient. Room 5, cut himself during some filming process deep gash across the nose, needs stitches" she said before handing her the clipboard.
"Shouldn't Maria be on this?" Athena questioned as she glanced down at the information. "Actually...there was an accident, about two minutes ago we got a call. Emergency case with 4 severely injured." She said though she was obviously trying to avoid explaining the details. "Ah, I see. It's probably best Maria handle this, I'm rather tired," she said knowing that Maria had come in an hour ago so she would be more than capable of case. "Alrighty, I'll go get this handled." Was all she said before she left the room and made her way to the room. Athena hadn't taken long with the task, she however struggled to keep her scowl at bay, why the hell did he ask his friend to throw a damn watermelon at his face whilst he tried to cut it with a kitchen knife. There were so many things wrong with this concept. Film or not there were always idiots who took their safety for granted. "Return in about 8 to 10 days and I'll remove them for you." The man nodded having thanked her profusely before he left to get some of the pain killers she prescribed him. Sighing softly she made her way outside of the room only to pause when she saw three hospital beds passing by her. It hadn't taken her long to recognize her husband's firefighting logo.
Her dark brown eyes widened with shock as she followed them to the room Maria was currently working in. Her chest felt tight and Athena struggled to breath. Was her husband alright? Without thinking she took out her phone and began calling him while staying out of the way of the nurses who were tending to the men. Nurse Santana caught sight of her and gave her an apologetic look for keeping the details out of her report. "Doctor, perhaps you should wait outside?" Maria called out, she was aware of the panic that Athena was going through but having her here wouldn't be much help.
