It was another sunny day in the state of California, and the vibrant city of Los Angeles. People went about their day, shopping, relaxing, working, and suntanning on the beaches, with barely a concern in the world. Certainly none of them had any worry for the meteor shower that had been reported by NASA recently, except perhaps as a spectacle to watch at some point should the time of day and the weather favor it. But otherwise, it was business as usual

That was the same thing that could be said for Alex Daniels, currently enjoying some well earned vacation time courtesy of the US Army. He wouldn't get the opportunity to be here long, but while he had it he planned to enjoy it, like any sane and rational being would when in one of the largest cities on the West Coast. Then he'd be off to some third world desert country soon enough and suffering, but until then there was no point in moping around and waiting.

Close cut brown hair, blue eyes, muscular, currently wearing a tank top and khaki shorts as well as sunglasses, Alex was enjoying himself as he walked along the beach, checking out the waves, the surfers, and the girls. It was practically impossible to not do so, and he could not be blamed for it, based on where he was. Just another benefit of the city and the climate.

He came to a rest near a dock, looking over the waterline as he drank from a bottle of coke. Just another day, and he was already enjoying it.

The beaches were full with people as they had fun on another sunny day in the city of Los Angeles. The docks were full with people as they were either going to the countless stores or to the sandy beaches. Today was going to be especially busy as a meteor shower was expected in the Los Angeles area, according to NASA. There were going to be a lot of people, who wanted to see the shower happening, at the beaches today and later in the day. Hopefully, the weather was going to be good enough to see the shower.

A cigarette fell to the wooden boardwalk and then crushing the cigarette before it could get the wood on fire. After crushing it, Linda Coffey kept walking around the beaches of Los Angeles for the day. She didn't know what to do next since she moved all of her things into a small apartment. Los Angeles was different from her hometown in Vermont, but she loved it for warmer weather and the clear skies. She left Vermont as soon as the age of twenty and had enough money to travel to Los Angeles and got a place to stay.

As Linda stopped to look at the people on the sandy beach, she saw the ocean and decided to take a picture of it. She grabbed her phone for her purse and went to the camera option on her smartphone. The phone got the perfect shot and the flash of it made such that it was the perfect shot. The picture would make for a good gift for her family back home in Vermont.

Glancing over from his current position, Alex could see others going about their own vacations, taking pictures and admiring the seashore. There was the potential to talk to them, that he would admit, but that could perhaps wait. At least for the moment anyway. Once he found someone that seemed worth talking to then he would. Part of this sort of thing was patience, and that he would employ in spades.

Another look saw the woman next to him taking a picture using her phone, which wouldn't normally have been a problem if it wasn't for one detail he noticed at the same time. Admittedly, photography had never been his strong suit, but that was no deterrent to something as basic as this. At least, so he hoped.

"You know, I don't think you're supposed to use a flash in the daytime, and directly in the sunlight no less," he pointed out nonchalantly as he shifted towards her, somewhat. Only enough to indicate that he was talking to her before adding to that, extending a hand to her. "Alex Daniels." This was as good a time to start as any.
