The Burning World
Story
A woman, shrouded in golden light, appears before you, extending her hand. She speaks in a strange, melodic language, more beautiful than any one you have heard before. "You are the last defenders of this land. Will you join me, and defeat the evil, or will you turn away?"
The world has always been a desert. For as long as anyone can remember, humanity has either lived on the tops of mountains, where there were springs, and arable land, or in the depths of the many chasms that scar the landscape. However, the titanic struggle between Good and Evil is new. It's the only thing that's changed in the last thousand years. Take that how you will.
Concept
Okay, so the world is a giant desert, filled with mountains, long, winding chasms and wide canyons. The last bastions of civilization are mountain citadels in the north. Villages have been formed, but usually within a month of their founding, they fall prey to the ravages of nature. The chasms and canyons are deep, and filled with weird and strange creatures, and sometimes treasure, remnants of a fallen civilization. Recently, though, A mysterious Overlord has appeared, coming out of the chasms one day, and attacking one of the citadels, completely destroying it. Simultaneously, a woman, with armor of purest silver, has appeared, rallying the best fighters, magicians, and scientists, to her cause, which is to protect the last remainder of civilization.
This was all fifteen years ago, and so far, neither way has made much headway. You, the player, are a recruit of the Grand Army, which is the group recruited by the Heroine, as she is known throughout the land.
