Also, Important, i'll be posting for our practice match in an hour or so. I apologize in advance for the severe lack of action for such a long wait: all Vos'stoorge does is shuffle up to Hikaru and touch her blade with his dagger. Don't be fooled though - that is a very endangering move. XD

Endangering...her katana?

It was pretty much here that I first fought anyone. I started RP on this site, for the most part, and worked my way from Free, to Casual, to the Arena, and have been involved in many stories that never finished. I learned a lot during my time here, and have forgotten a lot. I am sincerely hopping to make this latest bout of motivation the one in which I do an RP right and see it to the end.

So, I wanted to ask. Are there some skills you see as redundant/virtually useless in this fighting day in age?

For me, it's Accuracy. Everyone seems to ge super accurate, or, it doesn't really ever translate into anything tangible. It never really shows up as something that's not passive. It looks nice on paper, shooting holes in coins and stuff, but I've seen it be rare that it actually translate into shooting actual characters.

For me it's training, despite what some people like to say, people who are extremely well trained can pull feats of seemingly superhuman nature without having any superpowers.

Such as dodging a bullet, catching a cannonball with your gut, or resisting the blade of a spear with your core muscles.

Even though these things have been done in real life by real people, if you do it in character as anyone who doesn't have superhuman abilities, you're a shitlord and everyone complains.

Basically, what it breaks down to from what I've seen, is that training is used as a metric for how much better of a fighter you are than anyone else. And that's the end of training.

So what ultimately got you guys into Arena fighting?

For me, combat was a big part of MYB RPing, but then I went offsite and saw this wonderful bout, but could never find it again. It involved two guys in a stadium type of thing, one was using strings to create lines around the stadium and his opponent, early on, lost a finger.

That's my biggest goal, to participate in a fight that hooks me like that from the very beginning. To me, they represent the pinnacle of Arena RPing.

I was bored about three years ago, and joined ImportantNobody's assassin duel thread, where I got to fight two people and found it fun and interesting (I also did pretty well for a complete novice, which helps). Then I joined WOTW and it took off from there.

In regards to useless skills

Training is somewhat useless, it only functions as a decent gauge of how well your character can pull off a certain action, but if you're not trained enough personally to know what action would be best to take, it really doesn't matter.

Scion: My Mech basically has the armour values of an ordinary tank, and is actually weaker in some regards, so the bass cannon would definitely one-shot it.

Also, as a general notice I'm back at work now, so don't expect to see me at the times you weird americans usually converse with eachother, because I'll probably be asleep.

@Rilla
I actually started on Omegle, testing out various characters in a preset arena. Gauging what is and isn't acceptable for a character there. Then I went on to some Chatzy rooms, and when the rooms that I went to were either shut down or filled with trash roleplayers I gave up. It was another year before I found RPG, and I decided that Forum based roleplay was where I should head next.

I've always preferred combat centric roleplay though, I'll be honest.

Are those sites the reason why your characters, at base, are much stronger than normal? lol.

Training can be useful, but it gets a bit... eh.. when you're a 'master swordsmen' and you're still being fought on par with, regardless.

It happens a lot more than it should.

Nah, the reason my characters are stronger is because of animated superhero stuff. Tends to be a lot more high powered stuff. Though to be fair, all of the powered characters I have demonstrated in the Arena are exactly that.

Powered.

Most of my characters aren't powered, though many aren't human in ability. Because most of my characters aren't human. 'Bout 90% of my characters are aliens, robots, or alternate dimension humans. Makes for better storytelling.

I find it funny to see a character that has a host of hand to hand skills. Usually I’ll talk with the person and then we’ll agree to a realistic hand to hand spar. Once that happens usually the player either knows nothing, or very little about the particular combatives their character has.

While I don’t know as many as I would like, I do know more than enough that when I start fighting in close and the person starts to pull anime moves outta their ass, I know they have no clue about what they are doing. Mostly it is silly things like the cinematic martial arts they see in movies or anime that they think will work in a fight.

I remember one fight where we were fighting in an ally and the person was on one side of a pile of debris and junk. One of the things placed there in an opening stance post was a bunch of desk drawers stacked up. The guy ran at me and jumped into the air too execute some sort of spinning kick.

He ran up the stacked desk drawers to get height so I just knocked the drawers out from under him. That caused problems then I told him ok I’ll let the move happen, since I had picked up an expended fire extinguisher in a prior post, I side stepped and smacked him with it. He never responded after that.

I remember fighting young fire user. I think he, at the time didn't understand, the fine art of deception. I do believe he was caught completely by surprise by a electrical strike that ended the fight.

My first fight was probably one of my most memorable, my opponent ran at my character with the intent of thrusting his sword through him and killing him, to which I had my character (a powerful fire manipulator) allow the sword to pierce his body in a less vital spot, and took the swordsman by surprise by placing a hand on his face, setting him alight.

I think I'm pretty much caught up with everything, give me the benefit of the doubt if there are any glaring errors that make no sense and let me know so I have a chance to edit if you would, I'm tired and ill unfortunately.

Alphonse vs. Skallagrim will be interesting. You'd would have to set Skallagrims power levels to make it a fair and enjoyable fight though.

You know, I probably wouldn't change a thing, or I'd compensate by having Alphonse sort of grow.

Then for my 'Season' End fight, I challenge thus:

Alphonse vs Skallagrim!

Perhaps we can build up some kind of 'super fight' card, for the month of December, as sort of a year end thing, that can be promoted by the Guild overlords and stuff.

Alright. I am good with that. I think I need to bring him out and test him against people to get a feel for him again before then.
