No problem ^^ I'm new to the Arena, it makes sense that I write myself into unfortunate situations. I miscalculated distance, in this case. Fatal mistake in real life, fatal mistake here. I'll get better at envisioning things.

edit: at least beat Florian with a flair.

I think the problem is everyone is not seeing what the other is doing. Melon is not lunging, he is changing foot position from a 5-6 to a 1-2 and doing a vertical slash. He is not lunging at you and you made a terrible mistake in your response.

Sath, if you are doing medieval fencing you know what I am saying here, you should have waited and in des fechten or gleich fechten to take advantage of his action. With either a counter thrust or Uberlauffen.

You did deflect his attack with a diagonal attack on his blade, but you didn’t follow it up with a cut over the blade, which you should have done since it would have been a natural action following the movements you and he engaged in.

While I medieval I don't german yet. My hall uses italian treatises, being italian. You're right, I did not correctly visualize what he was doing and got punished for it. A cut over the blade would be a very strong counter, yes, but I assumed that he had lunged to his full extent so I could do what I did.

Understandable, we only get better with practice. Read what your opponent gives you, you should recognize situations that you have practiced and know from trial and error what works best for what you want to achieve.

Yup. I will be sure to read carefully and make sure I understand fully in my next fights. It can be sometimes tricky to transpose actual combat situations to text, there's a lot to keep in mind I'd otherwise take for granted.

@MelonHead is that conclusion okay, as far as Brennus goes?

Yeah no problem, if you want any advice (from an Arena perspective, I doubt I could lecture you in sword play) I'll be happy to do a run through and point out details etc you should probably add in future for clarity.

1st post.
Couple of significant points, one its customary in most fights for each person to introduce their own character, though you can definitely set the scene its best not to set anything in stone for your opponent, in the fashion that you removed Brennus’ shield, etc.
If we’d agreed beforehand that we were fighting with wooden swords, then the only additional thing I would recommend was stating if they weren’t average sized longswords, as the size difference counted against you later on.
In a more standard arena fight the introduction post should usually include – your character’s full list of attire, equipment and weaponry. Anything you don’t mention in your intro post is technically not allowed to be used, regardless of if it’s in your sheet (save for magical powers and the like, this tends to only apply to physical items.)

2nd post
You said ‘his sword, in his right hand’ this led to the later misunderstanding that he was wielding it one handed, have to be careful to specify how you hold your weapons, etc.

3rd post
Forgot to specify how and with what hand your character attempted to grapple, nor your target (unless sword hand always means dominant hand, but I’d still say that is a little obscure and can be misconstrued.) If I wanted to, I could specify for you in my next post, having you commit to a grapple with your right hand for example (which you probably would considering the situation) which would weaken your block (the most important aspect of your defence.)

Other than that, all cool. I think your counter would probably have worked if my character had over-stretched himself a little bit further. In future you may want to specify you’re looking for sword duels, as your character will be at a major disadvantage fighting Brennus with his full equipment for example.

Hope this helps, have fun in the Arena.

Thank you, I will keep all of this in mind ^^

I'm willing to fight with things that aren't swords too. I can figure out how to use weapons I'm not particularly good at. Google is a click away. I may expand Florian's inventory to allow for this. I will also make sure to specify gear and such, and let the other person introduce their character. I do think my counter would have worked had I, you know, read things properly. At some point, when I'm better, I'd like another spar with you, to see if I've been able to apply what you've told me.
