Sotoki, Airi

Airi reached the top of the stairs and met the eyes of people "Ojou-sama!" shouted by one of the shrine members. All the members on the yard circled around her "Are you alright?!" "Were you attacked by the spirits?" "Please get inside quick!" "Is that the shrine's artifact?!" Everyone spoke in chorus that she only understood some people. "A-Ah..! I-I'm fine! A friend of mine protected me! Our a-artifact also protected me!" All the ranting stopped for a moment as they noticed the staff she was holding, but then she was barraged with questions all of a sudden. As she tried to talk to everyone, she noticed two other disciples near the main hall. They were talking in whispers and kept pointing at Airi's house 'What are they talking about...?' she tried to keep her eye on the two, but they quickly left the yard.

Sotoki was still climbing the stairs. Climbing the stairs was harder for him as he was more tired than Airi, who was just resting in his arms not too long ago. Suddenly, chatter was heard above the stairs, which prompted Sotoki to hurry up. After reaching the top, he saw people circling around Airi "A-Airi... huf.." he panted. "T-That's my friend, Fujisaki-kun." Then all of a sudden, the shrine members bowed to him "Thank you!" Sotoki felt awkward and embarrassed from what just happened "Welcome." he said with a frown, still bearing untrust towards other people. A shrine member calmed the crowd then they were brought inside the main hall.

"Waah... What happened here?" Airi baffled. the roof of the main hall was broken. The one who answered her was an old lady "The staff flew out of the shrine, through the roof." Then she was suddenly hugged "Grandmother! I'm glad you're alright!" she cried. Airi was really relieved to see her grandmother. Sotoki bowed to her and was greeted back. They sat on the floor after the disciples brought them sitting pillows. The high priestess, who introduced herself as Kiyo, was holding the staff "It just fell from the sky. Do you know why?" Sotoki asked her. "Yes. It was brought to its rightful owner." she spoke, her words directed to Airi "M-Me?" the old lady nodded. Airi had her eyes on her grandmother the whole time 'Why...? Is she sick...?' The light, a blinking pale blue light, is within the old lady "Well... Let me give you something." the old lady went towards the altar.

Sotoki asked "Is something wrong?" he had noticed that something was happening, Airi's expression was saying it all. "Grandmother... She's.. The light is.." she was in tears. He already knew what was happening, but he felt the need to reassure her "It's probably because she's old. That's why the light is like that." that was what he said, but he wasn't certain, it could have come off as a lie too. "I-Is that so?" Feeling more relaxed that she knew it wasn't because of sickness, she stood up to help her grandmother "I'll help you!" she said. As they searched for something, Sotoki just looked around the main hall, standing up soon after "I will just be outside." he said to the two and they agreed.

Sotoki sat by the stairs "Hah... It's really relaxing here." he smiled, then frowned "TAKO?!" he stood up. Only remembering his cat now, he checked his bag, which is not on him "Where is he?!" If the bag wasn't with him, then that could only mean that it fell. Thinking about it now, he never heard a meow since the time when Airi found him "Ta-" "Meow." he heard meowing behind him "Tako?" there was a man carrying a bag with the cat inside. "I found this little guy on the road." the man spoke, noticing that the cat belonged to the person in front of him "Thank you very much." he said with sarcasm as he took the bag. He really hates other people.
Nikko

Lightning bolts fell down from the night sky "Huh? What is that?" Nikko mumbled while looking above. He had a bad feeling about those lightning. When he brought his head down, a mass of walking shadows were headed towards them "W-what is...?!" Quickly, he recovered and commanded the ents to the block the creatures and defeat them "Run! Quick!" he carried Yuriko and made the third ent carry her while they ran. Nikko made sure that Harashi was following. Looking at the ents that were left behind, they were getting dissolved "What are those creatures?" The ents were shrinking, but also were defeating some shadows. "Thank you ents...!" he said before looking straight. He ran behind the ent carrying Yuriko to be sure that she doesn't fall behind.

As they ran, more and more of the shadows were appearing. They had been turning left and right. Nikko kept tapping trees to make branches grow and block the monsters. However, those monsters seeped through the little gaps "Hah... Hah... Yuriko.. Do you know where the end of the forest is?" he asked, he knows they have to get out of the forest. In the worst case scenario, they'll be fighting the monsters. He continued to tap trees with his naginata and was getting the hang of it. He also had summoned ents at certain times. 'Hah... This.. is.. tiring...' he felt more and more tired as he used his powers while running.

Yuriko, Harashi

"Ah, I-I think I know the way out... We need to turn to the left, after passing a tower of rocks," Yuriko said, somewhat uncomfortable with the way the ent was carrying her. "Dammit... These things are really tenacious, huh? They just..." Harashi stopped for a bit and swiftly drove his sword to the ground, then flung it upwards, uprooting the very earth itself into the shadowy beings, sending some huge rocks flying into them as well. "...don't know when to give up, huh?!", he said after the attack and kept on running, trying to catch up with the two.

"We're here on the landmark! Now we need to go west!", Yuriko said suddenly as they passed what seemed to be some lone shrine made of rocks in the middle of the woods. The girl tapped the ent several times, signalling it to turn left, and it did so. "W-what a sudden turn, dammit," Harashi said, panting slightly as he caught up with the three, still running from the shadowy things. "So persistent... What a pain!", The brunet turned around swiftly once more, facing the creatures that were trying to catch up to them. "Take this then!", Harashi breathed deeply and stabbed the ground with his sword, which caused the earth to fissure, dropping in the dark beings. "Ah... This should hopefully stop them for a bit...", he said as he started to run again, attempting to catch up to the three as he formed his sword into a ring, snugly fitting into his fingers. 'Dammit... Why is this happening?'

Hideki, Yoshimi

Yoshimi looked over the albino man who was laying on his back, still unconscious. 'I hope he'll be fine... M-maybe... I should try to get him out of here by myself. It'd be bad if we stay here any longer...' the black-haired girl thought to herself. She put Hideki on her back and started to run while carrying him. "Mn..." Hideki groaned, seemingly unsettled in his state. 'He's a bit heavy, but... I must make sure that we make out of here alive...', Yoshimi said to herself, panting a bit while she ran with Hideki on her back.

Hideki was dreaming. A lucid one too, at that. He could see everything. The city. Ravaged by those... things. Buildings, destroyed. The trees, parks and forests, all gone. A tall man, walking slowly on the barren ground. In front of the man, was a severely injured girl, with silvery hair and red eyes, who seemed to be crying. 'No...', Hideki thought, as the tall man clad in black slowly walked up to her. "I'm proud of you," the man said as he put his head on top of the girl's head gently, who was still silently sobbing. "But sadly it's time for you to disappear as well... ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS FILTHY WORLD," he grinned evilly. 'NO!', the albino thought. "Ugh...", he groaned, still unconscious while being carried by Yoshimi. 'Mm... Please be okay...', she thought to herself as she kept on running.

Sotoki, Kitsu

While rubbing his head, Kitsu watched Sotoki as he sat on a bench and let the cat sit on his lap. While petting the cat, Kitsu sat beside him, making Sotoki feel uncomfortable. "That's what I get for returning your precious cat to you?" Kitsu said to him in a grumpy tone, but he was ignored still. The boy next to him sighed and smiled at Kitsu, "Thank you!" then that smile that seemed so gentle had turned back into a scorn quick. "Ha. You're really quite the guy aren't you?" scowled Kitsu at him.

Suddenly, a scream was heard on the other side of the shrine. Quickly, Kitsu ran to the noise. 'What's going..? then it hit him. Airi was saying something about three red lights from when they were headed to the current shrine. If what he thought from before was right, then those lights are monsters and... "They're here now?!" Sotoki followed after Kitsu right away, forgetting about Tako, but the cat ran behind him anyway.

The two reached the place where the screams were coming from. "G-GAaaaaaaaaah!!!" shouted by one of the shrine members while writhing in pain. His arm had been cut off by none other than the Cerberus in front of them. The monster howled as it charged to the wounded person. As it was about to pounce him, Sotoki appeared in front of the hound and blocked it with his daggers, "Enough!" Parrying the monster, he swiftly went beneath it and sent the dagger to its chest, slicing it afterwards. All of a sudden, the cerberus was sent to the ground and started to turn to dust. Above the monster was Kitsu who apparently punched the monster to death. "Back now! Take the wounded with you!" Sotoki followed him, grabbed the person on the ground and went nearer the shrine.

Nikko

As they all ran, the shadows were still being persistent despite his and Harashi's continuous attacks to stop them. "T-There's no.. end to these.. things.. Haa...." he was starting to reach his limit as well. Being frail is taking a toll on him now.

They all neared the rocks which Yuriko pointed at earlier. She tapped the ent and signaled it to head left, making the both of them follow also. Harashi complained about the sudden turn, though it really is. Nikko almost tripped but he managed to stay on his feet. As a last attempt to make the shadows stop, or at least stall them, Harashi split the earth apart and made the creatures fall. Nikko then tapped the nearby trees to make them grow branches as a barrier in case the shadows climb up. "Hopefully.." he said in agreement with Harashi.

Now, as they ran, they made it so that Yuriko was at front while Nikko was slightly behind her and Harashi being a bit farther than them both. A formation just to keep them all safe. The albino had been trying to sense their surroundings as well using nature. That's when he sensed dying trees on their right. He had a bad feeling about it, but hopefully they all would have left the forest by the end. "Yuriko.. continue leading the ents.. like that please.." Though, once they have left the forest, their next step hasn't really been planned yet. He decided that they will figure it out once they have managed to escape.

Yuriko, Harashi

"Don't worry... We're almost there! Just a bit more...", Yuriko said as she tightly held on to the ent that was lifting her by its arms. She knew that they were almost out, since she was lost here once, but her brother Hideki helped her get out, so she figured out where they needed to go to do so. "And... We're out! We're o-", she said, but abruptly cut herself off with what she saw. "Ha... W-we're finally out. Damn...", Harashi said, panting, his back arched. "Seems like they've stopped for a bit... Yuriko, are you okay-", the brunet was just about to ask, when he decided to turn to where Yuriko was looking at.

A field of blood and dead bodies. "...my god...", he said quietly to himself. Yuriko, terrified with what she just saw, turned away immediately. She seemed to be crying, clutching the large ent by its wooden mass, her face almost directly against its body, refusing to look at what she had just witnessed. "H-Harashi-nii...", she softly said, sobbing and whimpering to herself. "Ah... D-don't worry, kid. J-just... Don't look at that...", Harashi walked up to the ent, who then let Yuriko go, to which Yuriko responded to by immediately running into the brown haired man and hiding her face against his chest. "W-why did this all happen...", she weakly said, then subsequently fainted in Harashi's arms. "Ah... Dammit... She passed out," Harashi said to himself. "Goddamn... This is so fucking wrong...", he angrily muttered. Then he suddenly remembered. "Hey, Nikko! Are you okay?", he turned to the albino who was trying to catch his breath right next to the ent. "Let's get out of here. Get on top of that creature of yours. We need to find someone that can help us!", he said to Nikko.

Yoshimi, Hideki

"Ha... Ha...", Yoshimi panted as she ran with Hideki still on her back. She'd never been so physically strained before, so she'll need to rest for some time after she and Hideki are safe. After a while more of wandering, she had finally found the exit. 'W-we're finally out...', she said to herself as she managed to exit the forest, trying to catch her breath. "H-he's a bit heavy, but... I need to make sure we're both safe before I rest...", she quietly said to herself. Such a dangerously selfless decision. "Mm...", Hideki muttered, his eyes opening slowly, realizing that Yoshimi had been carrying him for a while just to make sure they were both safe.

"Ah... Y-Yoshimi-san," he gently said. "O-oh, Hideki-san! You're awake!", Yoshimi suddenly stopped and laid him down gently. "My head hurts... What happened?", he asked, slightly confused, not remembering the events that had took place just before he passed out. "W-well... Some gelatinous thing nearly got me... But you saved me with your powers. T-thank you for that!", she said as she suddenly fell to her knees. "Ah... S-sorry, I'm just a bit tired... Ehehe," Yoshimi said, a faint smile on her face. Hideki frowned at the sight of this. "That's no good... We need to find some help... Are you injured?", Hideki asked the girl. "No... I'm very much fine, thank you," she gently said with a small smile. "I'm glad... Agh!", Hideki winced from a sudden jolt of pain in his head.

"Ah, i-is something wrong, Hideki-san?", she worriedly said as Hideki grasped his temple. "N-no, I'm fine... Just a bit of a headache, but I'm fine, really," Hideki reassured her. "T-that better be the case...", Yoshimi said, pouting a little. "Haha, yes... It is. I swear," Hideki said as he put his hand on top of Yoshimi's head, patting her gently. With this, Yoshimi blushed slightly. "W-what is it?", Yoshimi shyly said. "Ah... It's just kinda cute, your reaction," Hideki chuckled a little. "I-I see...", the girl lowered her head, still blushing. "Well... We should get going then! But before that... I should probably carry you for now, seeing as you were tired enough to actually fall to your knees," Hideki said. "So if you're okay with it, I'll gladly carry you for now," he said as he stood up. "Ah... W-well... I don't mind," Yoshimi said, still slightly flustered. "Alrighty! Let's get ourselves to safety before more of those things come," Hideki said as he lifted up Yoshimi, in a bridal style kind of way. "A-ah, you'll lift me this way?", she said. "Well, I think it's easier than piggyback, so yeah," Hideki replied to her. "W-well... I-it's okay then," she said, looking away from him a little. "That's the spirit, let's go then!", he said. "Y-yes, let's!", she said, as Hideki started to run, carrying the girl carefully. "Ah, wait...", Hideki suddenly stopped. "Eh, what is it?", Yoshimi replied. "...where will we go?", Hideki asked. "Ah... I think we can go to our shrine; the Sakkaku shrine," the girl replied to him. "Oh, alrighty. Lead the way for me then if it's okay?", Hideki asked the girl. "Sure, it is~", she replied with a smile. "Then, let's go!", Hideki ran once more, making sure to pay heed to any directions Yoshimi might give him.

Airi

Airi heard a scream and began to get worried after remembering the lights that she saw. Looking by the doors, Sotoki and Kitsu were running towards the noise. She nudged her mother "G-Grandmother! Get out of here!", but her grandmother shook her head and instead called her to come near. "B-But..!" her grandmother stopped her and instead picked up something below the wooden altar and gave to Airi. On her hands was an amulet that can be worn as a necklace. Slowly, her grandmother said "Airi.. Did you know that the goddess of our shrine still lives?" Airi was a bit confused, but she attentively listend. "The story that I have told you about the gods sacrificing themselves in order to seal a very deadly being. Among the gods, one had survived for she is the Goddess of Life." and this very goddess is the one their shrine worships. "The goddess still lives, in this staff that you hold, but not entirely." It surprised Airi as it means that in her hands is basically a goddess.

Her attention was caught by her grandmother once more. "Now then, listen to me Airi. This amulet can bring back the goddess for a short period of time. You must use this only when in dire need as it may be only possible for you to bring the goddess to life about once a day." her grandmother finished then both were startled by a sudden explosion from outside. "Go..! Help them and look for the rest of the shrine heirs-" she started to cough. Airi wanted to come close, but she was stopped. "Go Airi.." Following her grandmother, perhaps her last words, she went out of the shrine hall.

Nikko

Finally reaching the exit of the forest, Nikko started to become dizzy, leaning on an ent for support. He was quite tired. 'I should.. avoid more of that for now..' otherwise, it won't be good for him. Any more running will make him pass out.

Looking in front, he couldn't believe what he saw. "T-This is.. horrible..!" he felt his stomach churning and looked away, not being able to take much of what is before him. Even the others couldn't take it from what he saw. Calming themselves, Harashi told Nikko to ride the ent instead. "Thanks.. I'll do that." Making the ent kneel, he sat on its arms and let it carry him.

"Let's go." he wanted to get out of the place also. The sight of dismembered corpses, it wasn't good at all. But before they continued, he had turned one more tree into an ent just to reinforce their defense.

Yuriko, Harashi

Harashi, still holding Yuriko, who was still slightly sobbing, thought of how horrible all this is. 'All these deaths are unforgivable... Whoever caused all this needs to be punished...', Harashi thought, scowling slightly. He eventually calmed down. "...You okay, kid?", he asked the girl. "Ah... Y-yes, I'm fine now," Yuriko replied to him, still somewhat shaken from what she just saw. "Well... We really must keep going. We're gonna get caught by those things if we keep on standing around...", he said. "Mm, indeed... We should keep on moving," Yuriko nodded. Harashi helped her get up on the ent that Nikko had conjured up and soon signaled the two to follow them. "We're going to my family's shrine, follow me!", he said and started running, with Yuriko tapping the ent, telling it to follow Harashi, to which it gladly complied and started moving.

Hideki, Yoshimi

"Now... W-we should come up to a crossroads. Ah, you're running too fast! W-well, once we do... Turn left and wait until there's a huge tree right next to the road...", Yoshimi told Hideki the directions that he must take, with Hideki attentively listening to every detail so that they won't get lost. "And then... turn to the right and just keep on moving until you see a large gate," the girl being princess-carried said to the young man, to which he just nodded.

"Ah... We're here!", Yoshimi said as they stopped in front of a large wooden gate, then she motioned to Hideki to put her down. "Alright... This is a pretty large place, compared to our shrine," Hideki said as he was setting down Yoshimi gently. "Ah, yes, it really is... It can be kinda troubling sometimes since it's really big, I can get lost sometimes... E-eheheh...", she embarrassingly said. "Haha... it's okay. I'd be lost too if I had such a huge home," Hideki replied, lightly laughing. "Ehehe, I see~ W-well, we should enter already...", Yoshimi said.

"Ah... Excuse me, guards! Please, let me in! It's me, Yoshimi!", she shouted. The place was in a rather open area, although there were lots of trees in the surroundings. Suddenly the gates opened slowly. "Ah, I'm really glad they're still okay...", Yoshimi said as she let out a sigh of relief. "Young mistress! Are you okay!?", three of the shrine's servants suddenly appeared and made sure that Yoshimi was safe and unharmed. "Ah, y-yes, I'm fine... T-thank you for worrying, but thanks to my friend I managed to stay unscathed~", she happily said. "Indeed, we are really happy you're not hurt... Young man! We are eternally grateful for assuring our young mistress' safety!", one of the guards said to Hideki. "A-ah, it's no problem... I'm happy to do so. I can't let a friend get hurt, especially since we just met," Hideki replied. "Well... We heard the news. We must remain indoors at all times. Follow us quick," the three soon escorted both of them inside and made sure that the gate was closed and secured tightly by the other servants, who also worked as the shrine's protectors. '...this place really is pretty big,' Hideki thought to himself. 'As long as we'll be safe, I don't mind being anywhere though,' he thought once more as the three led them inside. 'I just really hope Yuriko is okay... Please be safe, my sister...', he last thought.

Not far from the forest, a tall dark man is sitting atop a building. In his sight are three people and two moving trees. "Hahaha! I found some~" He had been lying in wait near the shrine of Ome, thinking that sooner or later, he would spot a heir or two.. and here they are. "Now then... let's continue the fun!" Raising his scythe, he slashed it down and next an explosion in the forest occurred. "Burn! BURN! HAHAHAHA! Come and show them the face of Nightmare!" The forest had started to burn down and for some reason, it seemed to have formed a trail. The fire was spreading towards the group with the ents.

Nikko

All of a sudden, an explosion occurred and this gave a bad feeling to Nikko. He could sense the trees turning into ashes. Thinking about the same thing that he sensed earlier, he knew this wouldn't be good. Nudging the ents, he shouted "Run! Something is coming!" he told the two. The dying trees that he was sensing were slowly getting closer, he's sure that whatever's causing the fire is headed to them. But where should they run to? For now... "Harashi! Can we head to the nearest shrine instead..?!" If they are just around Ome, Nikko's shrine should be near here, specifically "Southwest... Let's head southwest to Hinohara! My family's shrine is there..!" he told the group.

Yuriko, Harashi

"Fuck... Not again! Goddammit... Let's get going then!", Harashi said as he started to run once more. "W-wait, where is this shrine in Edogawa?", Yuriko asked. "I've no clue myself... Ask hi- wait... What the hell is that?!", he said as he turned around to see a... centaur thing covered in flames and carrying a scythe rushing at them. "My god, this'll be bad for those ents," he said to himself. "You two!", Harashi shouted at them. "E-eh? W-what is it?", Yuriko asked. "...Go on without me for now," he said as he stopped on his tracks and turned to face whatever was chasing them. He morphed his ring back into the greatsword it originally was.

"I'll take care of this thing," Harashi said, preparing his stance and raising his guard. "Don't worry about me. What matters is you two will be safe, got it?", he said. "No! We won't leave you!", Yuriko retaliated. "...sorry, you two have no choice," Harashi tapped the ents and made them run faster to get away from him, as the Nightmare got closer and closer. "Nooooo!", Yuriko screamed. "I'll be fine, don't worry," Harashi calmly said, then waved at them, then suddenly turned around to block an attack from the Nightmare. "Well... Seems like it's just... You and me!", Harashi said as he made the Nightmare jump back by slashing his blade towards it. 'Ah, I hope I don't die yet... I still want to take more naps... And grandma... I hope she's okay,' he thought. He let out a yell as he started to charge toward the Nightmare, and it started to charge at him as well.

Hideki, Yoshimi

"What a huge place...", Hideki said to himself as they entered the home of the Sakkaku shrine. "Indeed... It is a really big place," Yoshimi replied. 'Hopefully we'll be safe here...', he thought to himself, a bead of sweat dropping on his cheek. 'It'll cause a lot of chaos if we get attacked here,' another thought. "Thank goodness, you're safe, Yoshimi-sama," Hiroshi, Yoshimi's personal servant said as he ran up to her. "We were really worried...", he said and bowed. "Ah... I'm very glad I'm safe too. My friend here, Yamamoto Hideki-san, helped me stay safe," Yoshimi happily said. "Ah, is that so... We are truly grateful, Yamamoto-sama," Hiroshi said as he bowed again to the white-haired man. "Ah... It's nothing. I'm happy to keep my friends safe," Hideki replied. "Is that so?", the old servant asked, to which Hideki replied to with a simple nod. "You are a kind young man. And... I hear the Yamamoto family are the protectors of the Kaminari shrine?", Hiroshi asked him. "Ah... Yes, that's right. My family protects the Kaminari shrine. Although... My younger sister and I got separated, and I have no idea where my parents have gone off to," Hideki replied. 'I hope they're all okay... And those two guys as well,' Hideki thought. "I see...", was Hiroshi's simple reply.

"Well, we are just relieved that we have not been attacked... yet," Hiroshi somewhat nervously said. "As the destruction spreads even more... The higher the chance of our shrine getting attacked is," he added. "...That's true. I've also noticed the servants have all been tense and have their guards raised...", Hideki said. "Yes, it's to assure that we will be able to defend for ourselves. There is a good number of servants here, but... Some of them are not trained to fight at all. So... Casualties are... almost guaranteed,' Hiroshi regretfully said. "...Indeed" "Yes...", Hideki and Yoshimi both said. "Well... In any case, I will also protect this place at any cost," Hideki said. "I see... As a descendant of the Kaminari shrine, I'm certain you will be able to defend yourself from those... creatures," Hiroshi replied. "Yes... I suppose I will be able to," the white-haired young man said. "I'm sure you two are tired though, you both must rest," the old man said to the two. "Ah, no, I'm fine, Hiroshi-san," Yoshimi said. "...No, you ran with me on your back when I passed out. We both need to rest," Hideki said to her. "Well... That is true," she replied and looked down. "Let us go to your room then, Yoshimi-sama. You may follow as well, Yamamoto-san," Hiroshi said, and the two followed.

"Hahaha! What a brave and stupid man." he arrogantly said as the heir with a broadsword stayed behind to stall the Nightmare. He thought of following the ones who went on, but he instead stayed as he found the sacrifice to be amusing as well. Getting a bit closer to get a better view, but he chose a spot where he wouldn't be detected. With a wicked smile on his face, he then said "Let's see what this shrine heirs are made of!" Soon enough, the Nightmare had been nearer then went to charge head to its enemy, seemingly like a meteor with purple flames.

Sotoki, Airi, Kitsu

In front of Sotoki and Kitsu are two Cerberus. There were three, but they both have managed to defeat one. Both sides were on their guards, waiting for each other to move first. As Airi came out of the shrine hall, the hounds took it a sa sign to strike. "Too fast...!" Sotoki exclaimed as he readied his daggers to guard while Kitsu kept an eye on the one charging towards him, waiting for the moment to dodge. With a loud howl a cerberus clashed with Sotoki's daggers, almost breaking through his defense. Sotoki parried and tried to slash it, but it dodged and for some reason the hound moved back.

With the cerberus charging quite fast, Kitsu still tried to keep his calm. At the right moment he dodged, "Ha! Not fast enough!" he mocked it. Moving to his left, he then sent his fist to the hound, but like the other it had evaded and made a distance with him.

All of a sudden, both hounds jumped and turned coiled their bodies, making them a ball of spikes and headed to the two. Being caught off guard, Sotoki lost his balance "Agh! I should have known...!" and Kitsu wouldn't make it if he tries to dodge again, "This is bad.." The hounds got nearer and nearer. If nothing is done about this, it might be the end for the two.

A voice behind them spoke, "Megami no Hogo!" and light gathered around Sotoki and Kitsu. The hounds were stopped by a barrier before them both and jumped back. "That was close... Thanks Airi." Sotoki knew who it was as he was there when Airi learned of it. "Ah! Welcome! But, stay focused for now." she said as the two stood up to continue their fight. "Now we'll finish this!" Kitsu claimed, being more confident with Airi to support them.

Nikko

Seeing the Nightmare, Harashi decided to stay behind to hold off the monster while Nikko and Yuriko ran. He wanted to object, leaving Harashi behind is something he doesn't want to do. But he knew, all of them would die at this rate. Perhaps not because they can't fight, but there would be risks in being together before a strong enemy. Harashi would need to protect Nikko and Yuriko if they stayed, and it won't be good for them if that happens. Coming to that conclusion, he continued with the girl to Edogawa. Mustering his strength, he shouted to Harashi "You... You better come meet us later!" it probably is the first time he ever had to shout. They all haven't been together for a while, but even in that short time, each of them is a precious friend to the other now.

Harashi

Hearing what Nikko had shouted, the brunet wielding the huge sword couldn't help but sneer as he charged closer towards the flaming creature. "Of course I will!!", he yelled as he crossed blades with the devilish being in front of him. "Heh... You're even uglier than I expected," Harashi said. Suddenly the Nightmare's flames grew even darker and by instinct, Harashi jumped backwards just as it began to emit even more intense fire from its body. "You're a clever one, aint'cha?", he said, watching the flames set fire to the ground itself. 'They're that hot... Shit, I need to be careful,' Harashi thought, as the Nightmare went for another charge. He started running towards it as well, dragging his sword along the ground, causing it to create sparks, then suddenly slashed it upwards, sending many rocks flying into the burning creature, disrupting its track, disorienting it and eventually causing it to crash into the ground.

"It's over, you abomination," Harashi said as he walked near the thing, unable to get up. He brought up his sword and stabbed it into the creature's head, making it wail in pain. "Ugh, what a pain...", he said as he drew his sword from the Nightmare's head and transformed it back into a ring. "I need to get moving," he said to himself, when suddenly, he saw a silhouette of a man flying just above where the forest was. 'What the...', Harashi thought to himself, when suddenly, he turned and saw that the flames on the Nightmare grew even brighter than before. 'Wha-', that was his last thought before blacking out.

Yuriko

"Harashi-nii... I-I hope he'll be okay...", Yuriko nervously said as the ents kept on running. "Nikko-nii... Are we certain that the place you're suggesting is safe?", Yuriko asked. "I'm just a bit nervous... I'm worried about onii-chan...", she added. "I would call him, but... I'm not getting any signal. The reception towers might have fallen," she lastly said.

Hideki, Yoshimi

Just as the three had entered Yoshimi's room... They heard a scream from not far away. "No... Have they gotten here already?!", Hideki said, a bead of sweat on his cheek. "...it would seem so...", Yoshimi nervously said. "You two, please stay here. We can't risk either of you getting hurt," Hiroshi said as he started to walk out of the room. "Hiroshi-san, wait!", Yoshimi stopped the old man. "What do you plan on doing?", she interrogated him. "I shall protect the servants here," Hiroshi calmly replied. "Although I am old... I am strong enough to hold up on my own, so do not worry, Yoshimi-sama," he added. "Ah... We can't just let you fight on your own. Isn't that right, Hideki-san?", Yoshimi said. "Yes, we cannot let you fight alone. We'll join in too," Hideki said, grasping his katana's scabbard with his left hand. "Yes, we shall aid you!", Yoshimi added. "You truly are very kind, Yoshimi-sama... Very well. I shall not stop you two from lending a hand,"

Hiroshi suddenly took out his pocket watch and pressed the button that was on top of it. All of a sudden, a part of the northern wall of the room turned open slowly, revealing hidden weapons. "Ah... I was wondering why that part of the wall seemed hollow and the others weren't," Yoshimi said to herself. "Yes... I'm truly sorry I never told you anything about it, Yoshimi-sama," Hiroshi said. "It's a somewhat scary thing to think about, considering there are so many weapons that I never knew about that were all hidden in my room's wall. Ehehe...", the black-haired girl said. "Well... They certainly are coming in handy today," the old servant said as he walked up to it and took a broadsword from the wide selection of weapons. "Let us not fool around any more. We need to protect this shrine," Hiroshi said. "Yes!" "Yeah!", Yoshimi and Hideki simultaneously said and they rushed out, Yoshimi holding her spear and Hideki grasping his katana, prepared for what's about to happen.

Sotoki, Airi, Kitsu

Falling to the ground with a sigh of relief, Airi announced "We... we beat them~!" The other two sat as well. "Haaaaa.. Finally..! That was tiring." Sotoki completely lied on the ground after. But even if they had defeated the monsters, a few of the members have died. "Tch.. We couldn't protect some." he lamented. Everyone became a bit sad about it, but eventually they have to face these things better. In the kind of calamity that they are in now, frequent deaths would occur. Airi tried to comfort everyone "H-Hey everyone.. Let's head back in for now? We can rest there or something. Aha.." though she wasn't even sure if that works, but they do need to rest even if just for an hour or so. All of them agreed and went back inside with the support of the remaining shrine members.

Nikko

Yuriko and him continued to move with the ents. It seems Yuriko's worry was starting to worsen. Nikko wasn't sure how to handle this kind of situations, he wasn't that social before after all. "I-It'll be fine. I'm sure Harashi-san and Hideki-san are alright. Those two are strong after all.." he said to her with a smile, hoping that was comforting enough.

Suddenly, he started to sense some trees decaying nearby him. They are probably at an area where the ghosts from earlier are still at. Worrying for their safety, he thought 'I should get another ent.. We need to be able to defend ourselves.'Seeing a lone tree beside the road, he turned it in to an ent and had it run with them, he regained a bit of his energy which let him do so. "Yuriko.. Keep your head down a-and.. don't let go of the ent." Nikko was a bit nervous that he stuttered a bit. Calming himself, he readied his naginata in case those started to appear.

Yuriko

Yuriko began to worry more about Harashi and Hideki. She wanted to cry. Everything that was happening was just... so wrong. A 13-year old like her is supposed to be having fun with her friends in a sunny afternoon, not... running away from creatures that were trying to devour her. She wanted to cry, so much. But seeing Nikko's smile, she couldn't help but feel reassured. "Ah... R-right," Yuriko said as she kept her head low and held onto the wooden creature tightly.

Hideki, Yoshimi

'Damn it... There's a lot of them,' Hideki thought as he slashed open a Wraith's head with his katana. 'This is a really bad situation for the shrine...', he thought to himself once more as he assisted Hiroshi in killing a Cerberus, as it let out a cold howl and then vanished into thin air. "There are so many of them," he said to the old butler. "Indeed... It's troublesome... But we must fend them all off!", Hiroshi said as he drove his sword into a Wraith, as it let out a blood-curling shriek and vanished. "We're at least managing to dwindle down their numbers...", Hideki said, panting slightly. "Yoshimi-san, are you doing okay?", Hideki hollered at the girl, who seemed to be doing fine on her own, but was also trying to help other people with their injuries. "Ah... Yes, I'm fine! I just need some help to get some injured people out of here... We need to heal them," Yoshimi replied as she set down a man who was injured from the fighting. Hideki ran to them to assure that they'll be safe as Yoshimi was healing him using her spear.

"Ah... They stopped attacking...", Hideki said, seemingly tired from the fighting. 'I still didn't get to rest after all that running so I got pretty tired fast, huh...', he thought. "Ahh, I'm glad they stopped for now... Are you okay?", Yoshimi asked the man lying on the ground, the tip of her spear coated in water just over the wound on his arm which was slowly healing. "Y-yes, I'm fine now... Thank you, young mistress!", he said, but grunted since he tried to move. "I-it'd be better to stay put while I heal you," she told the man. "Y-yes... Okay," he followed her command. "Wait... What is that?", Hideki said in awe. A Nightmare had appeared in the Sakkaku shrine's grounds, and seemed to be very furious... leaving flame trails as it walked slowly, closer to Hideki. "What on Earth...!?", he said to himself. "Yoshimi, take that man to safety along with Hiroshi," Hideki said with a commanding voice. "Eh? But what about you?!", Yoshimi replied. "I'll take care of this thing," Hideki said calmly as he unsheathed his katana once more. 'I'm getting tired... Ugh...', Hideki thought. 'But I can't stop fighting now. This thing... looks really formidable, and I can't just lose to it,' he thought once more. "I'll keep its attention and you attack it when there's an opening! But first, get the casualties out of here!", he said to Yoshimi. She could do nothing but follow. It seems Hideki has a plan. But hopefully it's a good one. She began to move injured people indoors as Hideki faced off with the Nightmare. "Let's dance," Hideki said calmly as he charged towards it, katana in hand.

Sotoki, Airi, Kitsu

The shrine became peaceful and with that the three managed to take a nap. After a while, Airi woke up. Yawning, she stood up and stretched. Looking around, she was relieved to see everyone doing okay. Some were quite sad for the loss of people, but nevertheless they are still safe. As she sighed, she thought 'I hope.. this would all end soon.'

"Good mornin- Ow." Sotoki felt pain as he tried to sit up. His body was still probably a bit strained from earlier. Airi giggled "Hehe~ It's afternoon now." The sun was soon about to start sinking, giving the sky a bit of an orange dye. Her grandmother entered the hall and Airi immediately went to her "G-Grandmother! Are you okay?" she was still worried about the old lady. Aside from her going outside, the blue light within her is still flickering. Sotoki assured her that it was just due to oldness, but Airi can't help but think otherwise. "I'm fine. Thank you Airi. I had the others accompany me.. You don't have to worry." the old lady patted Airi on the head after. The head of the shrine always had a bodyguard with her, but they also just can't leave her alone now since she is that old now.

Airi's grandmother looked at the others and back to Airi "You should all prepare now.. Kitsu stood up and helped Sotoki up, though Sotoki didn't want to, he took it anyway. "Will you all be fine here grandmother?" the old lady patted Airi again, gesturing for her not to worry anymore. The three then started to pack their items. They were also given some supplies like water as they would probably need it.

Everyone gathered at the entrance of the shrine, preparing to bid their young master and her friends goodbye. Kitsu tapped the other two's shoulder, but Sotoki brushed off the hand right away. "Still giving me that attitude huh?" he sighed. Kitsu is grumpy himself, but Sotoki just seemed like he doesn't want to have anything to do with people like him. "Anyway, I shall be off now." Airi wondered, "Off? You're not going with us? Kitsu nodded "Yeah. I'm going to another place." Airi then just nodded and told him to stay safe. As Kitsu started to part from them, Sotoki called "Hey." making him stop. Still keeping his cold look, he told him "Thanks. You did great earlier. I'll thank you for that at least and take care." turning away from Kitsu after finishing, but Kitsu knew it was actually gratitude this time.

With that, Sotoki and Airi were back to being just the two of them, but now they should be able to go on better. "Let's go then." he said to her. "Yup. Let's!" The both of them then left the shrine with everyone else cheering for them, hoping for their safety and good luck.

Nikko

As he suspected, the wraiths had appeared. Luckily, none of the shades this time. Wraiths would be easier to handle for them than the shades. However, with the group just being Nikko, Yuriko and three ents to protect them, it was quite difficult. They are managing to move while surviving, but they have slowed down drastically. "Y-Yuriko..! Are you okay?" looking behind him, she was holding on to the ent like she was told to. Nikko felt relieved and continued to defend with the ents. With it like this, he thought he might as well jump down, which he did so. Now, two ents are moving freely to defend the group. He walked in front of the ent carrying Yuriko and did his best to defeat wraiths as well.

Yuriko

The girl was surprised as she saw the wraiths appear. "T-those things again?", she nervously exclaimed. Yuriko has seen what those things can do... despite seeming like the weakest out of all the things she'd seen so far. But she felt a bit relieved as Nikko had began fending them off along with the ents. 'Thank goodness Nikko-nii is around... I hope they're all okay... mom, dad, onii-chan, Harashi-nii, Yoshimi-nee...', the girl thought.

Hideki, Yoshimi

Hideki connected his blade against the Nightmare's scythe, causing sparks to fly off. But the Nightmare's strength was much greater than his, so he had to jump back as the creature coated in purplish-black flames drove its weapon to the ground, almost hitting the silver-haired man. 'I shouldn't take this thing lightly...', Hideki thought, as he unsheathed his blade. Quickly doing a scan of his environment, Hideki found a puddle he could possibly utilize to help him defeat the being, whose flames now seemed to shift to a jet-black color. Just as he was about to move, the Nightmare reacted on its own, charging towards him. Surprised, Hideki evaded to the side, just a split second before the thing had collided into him. But unexpectedly, the thing swung its scythe toward him. "Khg-", Hideki grunted as it cut deep in his left arm. "My arm's really unlucky, huh...", he said to himself. "Seems it's useless for now... ugh...", Hideki said, wincing in pain while clutching his wounded left arm. The Nightmare had turned back to him, getting ready to charge once more.

Yoshimi couldn't resist any more. She needed to help Hideki. She had done her part and moved the injured people back to safety, but if she doesn't lend the young man a hand, he could possibly die. So she rushed in, running through the puddle while making sure her spear head touches connects with the water. The water turned clear and wrapped around the entirety of her weapon. She stabbed the being with her water-coated spear, which formed steam as some of its flames got doused. The creature let out a deafening cry as it ran backwards. It just seemed to get angrier with what she did. "Kuh... Yoshimi, get back," Hideki said. The sky suddenly began to darken as clouds accumulated once more, with the wind picking up. Lightning suddenly began to strike once more, landing in the vicinity. "A-a thunderstorm?!", Yoshimi said, unbeknownst to the fact that this was all Hideki's doing. "Douse it more with water...", Hideki said, letting go of his arm. "O-okay!", Yoshimi said as she ran back to a shishi-odoshi, harnessing her powers as it began to crawl up to her spear and cover it once more. "Get ready, freak," Hideki said.
