So I'm mildly interested in this, but I'd like to know if it would be possible to have a nation that is a federation of several different species.

The one I have in mind has six. Nothing too extreme or weird, just they serve different roles in society.

there's no limit so long as it makes sense.

Many people use more than one race though.

@MihndarI have an extreme multicultural corporation with hundreds of different species which was used to be a galaxy-spanning enterprise.(now reduced to a single star system, the only section of space White Corps truly owned)

Terminal has yet to say anything about it but if my civ is allowed, so would be yours.
Coincidentally Keyguy's civ has four species already and I think that got accepted.
Four or Six. I doubt it would make a difference.

My nation technically has just about as many species at everyone's combined. Considering how my 'nation' was formed, it makes sense though.

I'm rocking only one sentient species in my nation. Isn't there a saying about keeping it sweet and simple, ?

@TerminalI practically finished my NS. I will add some bits like detailing my ships and infantry equipment but that's just flavor text.
Is it acceptable?

@Amongheroes - Yes, it says that racial nationalism is alive and well. :P

Just as an aside, I liked toying with how different ways of reproduction would effect a society as a whole. For instance, bitumans do so by having two individuals (Or more if you're some sort of reproductive deviant) glom together and disperse themselves as a pile of juveniles. So the idea of having kids is sort of a mixed bag of making a murder/suicide pact with someone that results in a bunch of kids -- their opinion of the matter is a tad like reincarnation.(In that a small part of the parents lives on) This also means that families are more sibling units than mother/father households, with the adoption system in place to combat the once terrible strain roving bands of bituman young put on honest citizens. Because size and sentience correlate with this species (By virtue of allowing for larger and more complex webs of nerve clusters) newborns aren't inherently people, protected under the law by special considerations for 'potential people', which extend rights to them whilst also place certain responsibilities on adoptive guardians. Wise bitumans pay for guardianship of their children well in advance of the actual reproductive process, ensuring a capable someone is then contractually obligated to rear the feisty brood.

For instance one aspect of the Val interested me a great deal. They birth in litters like terrestrial canines--so are they seasonal breeders as well? I could imagine that something like that would hugely impact gender roles within society, especially as/if issues like women's rights, the nature of consent or even a system of marriage developed. Would rape be a touchy and complicated legal issue for them? Do females have a support system in place for those not willing or able to have litters? What sort of child support systems are in place? Both for single mothers with 'fire-and-forget' fathers and rearing for unwanted or orphan litters? Do poor Val occasionally eat one or two of their young?

As you can see from the above even a small change breeds many interesting questions, true the Val could simply be continuous breeders like humans--but I've always felt the best bits about an alien aren't the ones that make them a different creature, but how those bits make them a different people.

I will wait for the map before attempting to place myself in the galaxy I think. I only have a map for the area which my nation occupies.

Let me know how this looks, it is now finished. General motif is a small, well-developed and highly advanced nation which doesn't expand very quickly and is also subject to some internal instability due to the union of its six fairly different member species. Also, we're space commies.

Noviran Socialist Union

Technology: The Noviran Socialist Union is highly advanced, with most aspects of normal life being automated and scarcity for its residents being virtually eliminated. There is more than enough resources for everyone in the Union to maintain a reasonable standard of living, except for those who choose not to work and are not disabled in any way. Genetic engineering ensures a stable food supply, and power is provided entirely through nuclear fusion. Militarily, the NSU maintains five large fleets with weapons such large magnetic accelerator cannons, plasma pulse launchers, and nuclear lasers. Their ships are armored with "neosteel" titanium-diamond armor plating and electromagnetic shields, and some of their vehicles as well. Their infantry use armored exosuits or "power armor" except for the very lightest, and even some infantry possess light energy shields.

Military Structure: The vast majority of the military is Karteriean, Dromo and Catopian with a few Tokans. The Karterieans due to their superior physical ability and almost from birth training in the ways of conflict and war serve as the majority of the Noviran Army, as invaluable shock troopers who take charge and lead the front lines. Their culture has had a great influence on the military's rules and regulations, holding its members to strict and honorable codes. The Dromo run many of the greatest officer schools in the Union and so are highly represented in the officer corps across all divisions. The Catopians serve in a mix in both officers and army, but predominantly serve in the Noviran fleets as pilots, technicians and engineers. The Toka are minimally represented as engineers both in space and on the ground.

Final App! I didn't make it all pretty, because it's 10 over here, this is an adapted app, and I'm already really lazy. I'm pretty sure I didn't screw anything up, but this is 10,000 words or so. Just tell me if there's any instance of me doing something horribly wrong and I'll fix it.

I never liked writing a novella for my nations, hopefully I'll be able to still portray them in their entirety in the posts. In my mind you all would rather learn about my nation through narrative, but that is largely self-deception: deep down I'm just lazy.

@Beach BurritoYes, nothing like keeping that strong jengoistic patriotism going. The Val gotta stick together!

As to the details of their breeding habits, I initially envisioned it to be more in line with humans than wolves. But you do raise an interesting point in regard to how seasonal breeding patterns would affect Val society. It could be an interesting internal story device.

@TerminalNo worries on the wait. I think there's another saying about good things coming to those who do just that.

Yeah, there's no point in writing long-ass novels for nation sheets when you can present the details in the actual IC.
I prefer to keep my NS relatively spartan, too.
Of course partially out of laziness.

The one difference is that I tend to add new details and unit profiles as the game progresses so as to help people keep track of my nation or what does the Rottweiler-class Battlecruiser really means.

I second this. It's fun to flesh out all the details of a nation or character as the story unfolds. At least in my humble opinion.

Seriously though, this is just stupid. Charlemagne came out like what, half a year ago? I legitimately feel like they're trying to milk it for everything it's worth at this point. They should be spending that time on developing HOI4 or maybe even Vicky 3.
