50,000 people try to play a single Pokemon game at the same time.

The part I watched, they just kept going in and out of one building with a Clefairy for a few minutes. While people shouted in chat about killing Eevee or evolving it. Someone mentioned they released three pokemon??

That 20-40 second lag's gotta make things insanely worse. And I read that was with a forced waiting time before a user could enter anything again.
I also read that the start spamming was stopped, but the game still pulls the menu up every few seconds. Not sure why that is.

Extreme popularity to the point that the first things you get when Googling "Twitch plays Pokemon" are shitloads of news sites talking about how 50k people are playing Pokemon.

I had to sift through those links until I found a news article with a Live feed directly from Twitch that I could go to.

They've got like 6 badges right now, and considering how Democracy keeps gaining control, I'd guess another two days or so will yield a conclusion, at least for the main game. I somehow doubt this thing will continue much longer after defeating the Rival. Pretty sure nobody will want to go through 15 hours each to catch enough Pokemon to gain access to Cerulean Cave and fight Mewtwo.
