You know the role-playing games with the classic punishing nintendo difficulty? yeah, that one. I was thinking of doing a roleplay that borrowed elements from the various SMT games and implementing them into one setting. Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, what have you. I haven't played them all yet, but I've played several entrees to have a general understanding of the tone and intrinsic singularities of the SMT titles.

The Megami Tensei (女神転生 Goddess Reincarnated?) series is a franchise of Japanese role-playing video games, developed and published by Atlus. The first game in the series, Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei, released for the Famicom in 1987, is based on a series of novels written by Aya Nishitani entitled Digital Devil Story. The first game to be published in North America was Revelations: Persona for the original PlayStation in 1996, while the first to be published in Europe was Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, renamed Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call. The series has several recurring themes, including demon-summoning, Japanese folklore, and the occult. Despite its thematic roots in Japanese culture and mythology, the Megami Tensei series has found a cult following internationally.

Plots and themes
Each title focuses on the extraordinary invading the ordinary world, though the two main Megami Tensei series focus on different things: Shin Megami Tensei focuses more on the main protagonist gaining the power needed to survive in a world ruled over by tyrannical deities, while Persona focuses on interpersonal relationships and the psychology of a group of people. That protagonist is generally male within the Shin Megami Tensei titles: while a female lead or the ability to choose a lead's gender is not out of the question, many staff feel that Shin Megami Tensei lead roles are better suited to a male character. Throughout its lifetime, the series has incorporated elements of Gnosticism, various world mythologies and religions including Christianity and Buddhism, early science fiction, Jungian psychology and archetypes, occultism, punk, and cyberpunk. The science fiction and fantasy elements are brought together and unified through the use of philosophical concepts, enabling a blending of concepts and aesthetics that might normally clash.

Setting: Post-Apocalyptic bubble academy city sitting on the outskirts of what is Hong Kong. Special students(Mutants) are recruited from all over to attend the Eden International Academy.

Technology: The conditions outside the neo bubble cities are quite devastated due to prolonged fallout and razing from doing battle with the shadows, the bubbles cities themselves are fairly modern and lush looking.

Inspirations: Evangelion, X-men, Akira, Chrome Shelled Regios, Shin Megami Tensei.

Character Classes: Summoners, Avatars, and Slayers. (I'll explain the functions of these 3 important classes. Just know that summoners are like the summoners we see in every game and rpgs in general, they form summoning pacts with monsters, Avatars are like the Atma in DDS, in essence becoming the monster, they can shapeshift into powerful demonic forms. Slayers cannot summon or shapeshift, rather their powers come from training and using their comp devices to simulate supernaturally effective attacks)

While this is interesting I do have questions as an SMT fan. Why did you choose Shadows, something that is more Persona-centric, in a series where the enemies are mostly Demons? That aside some more information would be good like if there are civilizations outside of the bubbles or survivors in general. So far, interested.

Interested, though not very familiar with SMT outside of Persona. I've done a bit of reading but haven't played most of the games.

I'm kinda interested, I might join. One question I have though is; You mentioned COMP devices in the Slayer bio. You mean the ones from Soul Hackers, right? The ones that look like guns? Or are they the SMT4 ones? The gauntlets?

EDIT: I mean without the ability to demon summon, obviously. I'm just talking about how it looks.

I feel that Shadows are more of a personal enemy to humanity, I see majin as more self-oriented. Some are good, some are bad, some are lawful, some are chaotic, some are amoral, some are transcendent. You know what I mean? Majin are more like gods in the background with agendas than on the frontlines waging war. Also, shadows are a bit interesting in that everything has a shadow, even personas and such.

Everybody has a shadow? So would the "boss-type enemies" be the protagonists' shadows? Also, would the RP focus on the training itself in the academy, or after graduation, fighting shadows on a regular basis?

And, just to clarify, the demons will be playing an assissting role, as the Summoner's lackeys and the Avatar's inspiration. Nothing else from them?

One more thing: Guns are totally an option for combat, right?

Perhaps, but I wouldn't rule out anything exactly at this point. The roleplay would have more of a persona-esque focus with time split between the academy, training, and other activities inside the bio-domes, aside from venturing outside the domes to do battle with shadows. Only elites and graduates are allowed to hunt outside the bubble cities alone. Rookie students have 3 man teams consisting of an Avatar, a summoner and a Slayer. Usually accompanied by a veteran of some sort.

Guns are allowed, as are swords and most other weapons, all classes can use weapons to some extent, but only Slayers can use advanced weapon techniques.

Ah. So, how many people you looking for? And would you be playing a student? (I assume we're playing in two groups of 3.)

Sorry for all the questions and stuff. I just wanna confirm my interest; Plus, it's good to keep this near the top. More people notice it that way.

three teams of three is good as far as rookies students go (I can work with less or more), plus elites, graduates, staff and residents, so probably as much as what's needed. I'm recruiting for needs, and not numbers. I really want to do a team format like persona 3 or 4.

I intend to make an elite upperclass slayer, so my character will be doing things you expect an elite would do , the rookies and elites stories will intersect at certain points, but they have mostly different directives even though they are working within the same system overall.

Man, this is starting to sound complex. As for myself, I definitely wanna play a rookie, but I'm not sure what class, or anything personality wise.

EDIT: If I decide to join, of course. Still not sure.
