My idea was we would play soldiers on both sides of the Western Front of World War I, around the time of the US entering the war. Players would be welcome to make characters from any of the nations involved on the Western Front. Player actions would effect the outcome of the battle(updated in my posts), and these battles would effect the outcome of the war, meaning many different things could happen. So, anyone up for this?

this seems middy intriguing, but before I put down definitive interest, can you explain at bit more on how such actions would change the war?

Unless we snipe the enemy general or something, I'm doubtful that shooting one or two enemy soldiers going over no man's land will do much in the grand scheme of things.

@ClocktowerEchos Well, my idea is that player actions would trigger chain events leading to a change in the battles. For example, you might throw a grenade into a machine gun nest, which may alter the course of the battle by allowing your side to advance further in the area the nest was, leading to your side capturing a key objective. Had you instead decided to throw the grenade at enemy troops in a trench near the machine gun, thinking you wouldn't make the throw to the gun, the nest wouldn't have been destroyed, and your side would have never captured the key objective.

Is this taking place when the US is actually deploying troops, once the Ludendorff offensive is essentially over, or right at the beginning of Operation Michael, or at some other time altogether?

Also, are we all making characters from the same nation, or do we all chose individually? The latter seems problematic to me, but if you think it could work I'd be happy to change my mind.

@EschatologistSorry for the late reply, but the time is set right at the arrival of the very first US troops. My plan was for everyone to choose their nation their character hails from, because my true goal for this RP is to simulate the life of trench warfare, an RP that shows the day-to-day struggle of a soldier on the Western Front.

Colour me interested. I'd like to play a Brit. Fair-warning though I might often get confused between WW1 & 2. Sacrilege to some I know, but I've only ever really dealt with WW2.

But by the time U.S. troops arrived warfare was almost unrecognizable from the usual trench depiction, and tactics had become much more modern. Wouldn't setting the game earlier, before fire and move or tanks became prolific, be better for that gritty trench drama?

@EschatologistYou do make an interesting point. It would probably be better to set it before the arrival of the US.

My recommendation would be to start at the beginning of Operation Michael if you're set on the late war period, or maybe 1916 if you want that real grim dark trench life. Just a suggestion obviously, I don't mean to be rude.

@EschatologistYou're fine. I'll probably go with 1916 for the best experience.

Oh I thought this was dead already. Unfortunately I've made other plans and I'm not so interested anymore. I apologize.
