I'm still trying to figure out what to make. That is, it's hard thinking of a "Main character".

I'm not aware of anyone here who really has a main character. I think everyone uses at least a couple characters if not more. Between various power levels, strengths and weaknesses, and story appropriate fights, sticking with one is possible but probably not idea. Of course, I love making characters, so the idea of just one main character sounds so boring to me. I have a few main characters right now. Lol.

I'm going to need to organize all my characters once I reach 200 to see who is a main character of each setting all the characters come from. Some of my characters may be the only one I have from the setting but still might be minor characters or I could just tag them on to another setting. Some could be super main characters if groups of main characters get together in my multiverse setting and one of them is the main one. Or I could call that multi-main. However, for things like the avengers I guess they all would be the main characters so it might be similar.

I don't mean a character that I main- I mean a character that actually feels like a main character.

Often when making a character, I will examine the HX of the character. What makes the character special enough to write about. Why, as a writer, do I feel this character is worth my time and investment? Can I find interest in the character and motivation to explore the character completely if I can, then I have a main character that I want to write about. I don't throw out a thousand characters simply because I want to focus on a few quality characters that I find enjoyable to write about.

Read over your characters, find the one(s) that you want to know more about, the characters whose histories are worth exploration as well as seeing where their futures lie.

Hey guys, back again. Since you are on the topic of characters, my recommendation is to make a character for every power-type (no-power,low-power,mid-power, and high-power.) so you have a roster to chose from {especially if you are a ranked match player.}if on of the characters lose in a ranked match, they are permanently defeated (or they can come back next season and you can make the replacements be non-ranked characters if you really like your main lineup, or something else.) if you are not a ranked player, you can just keep them or whatever . This is more of a rough idea so, if this doesn't make any sense, feel free to change it up a bit.

I am not available for individual fights currently, focusing on RL and keeping my limited fight time open for tournament events.

So is there any standard as to what's considered low powered, mid-powered, and high powered? I think that should've been the first thing addressed.

I would love a well measured answer to this.

I consider low powered to be comparable to Spider-Man.
I consider med powered to be comparable to Colossus.
I consider high powered to be comparable to Sentry.

This is not, however, a unanimous metric. Sometimes people consider my characters stronger, some consider them weaker. There is no unified opinion on the subject.

[EDIT:] And I'll be honest, the fact that people expect everyone to agree on it kind of pisses me off.

[Double EDIT:] This saltiness isn't directed towards the two of you, to be clear. It's incredibly hard to manage a metric among a group of people who, on average, argue more than any other group of roleplayers. Bringing it up tends to result in a long discussion about how it should work, and it ends up as a circlejerk of the same cyclical topics.

I would like your opinion, preferably using other characters to site your expectations per class. It would help me get a sense of what is approximately what.

Well I'll make three things clear before I post my opinion. If these are fine, then I'll explain how I personally view the tiers.

1: I'm incredibly abrasive, my opinions are full of personal bias based on experience. I'm also a salty fuck, so generally the way I say things comes off in a way that makes me sound like an asshole. (To be fair, I am an asshole.)

2: I believe that guns don't increase the tier of a character alone, I think the premise that a gun is a terrifying death sentence among superhumans is stupid. What I do believe, however, is that equipment and training can shift the tier of a character. A gun equipped to Norman McAverage would be horribly ineffective against Captain America who's ready to beat the shit out of Norman.

3: High tier characters are about the only thing that's agreed on, once people reach a certain level of ability it's noticeable that they're high tier. And people will call you on it, especially if you're classifying them as a lower tier.

NO POWER:
-No magic/powers/no superhuman feats/crazy weapons.
-everything is realistic (no ray-guns or Iron Man suits,Etc).

LOW-POWER:
-There are some powers but they are not over-the-top.
-Enemies who are not assisted by said powers should be able to have a fair match with those who do.
- Characters given powers should have a lengthy cool-down or preparation time to regain the spell/abilities they expended.

MEDIUM-POWER:
-Every Character should have at least Three abilities.
-A non powered/weaponized character should have a hard time fighting this character type.
-They can use there abilities more frequently but have a big drawback or some balancing device to make sure they are not crazy powerful.

HIGH/ULTRA POWER:
-Almost god-like terms of powers in power.
-No mortal should and will stand a chance in a fight
-Completely absurd amount of power in abilities/weapons
-The character that are almost god-like should be kill-able or else it isn't a fair fight(obviously.)

If you're looking to start an argument, you've already lost. I thrive on confrontation and conflict, it's my favorite pass time. Especially at midnight.
