"The applications of science have built man a well-supplied house, and are teaching him to live healthily therein. They have enabled him to throw masses of people against one another with cruel weapons. They may yet allow him truly to encompass the great record and to grow in the wisdom of race experience. He may perish in conflict before he learns to wield that record for his true good. Yet, in the application of science to the needs and desires of man, it would seem to be a singularly unfortunate stage at which to terminate the process, or to lose hope as to the outcome."

~ Vannevar Bush, As We May Think, July 1945

Our story begins in a city that will only be known as The City. A city in a time not too isolated from our own where you can almost taste the depravity on your tongue. It is the day after Christmas and the clouds above are grey and filled with snow and people are already moving their christmas trees out to the curb to be picked up by the garbage men. On this picturesque morning, the grey sky moves above in a brilliant display of natural sfumato that would make even da Vinci weep in its beauty. On this picturesque morning, one Mister Hisakawa, a salaryman jumps from the roof of his office building and it is a well known fact in the medical field that falls over six meters usually mean instantaneous death. Mister Hisakawa's building was 60 meters tall. Needless to say he hit the ground and impacted in such a way that it made the resulting sidewalk look like some sort of macabre pollock painting. Hisakawa #1. Mister Hisakawa would be the first of ten suicides that day that would follow the same methods. A kind and reasonable person, with a stable family life and good job apparently ending their short trip at the slaughterhouse prematurely for no apparent reason. One hundred of these suicides occurred on average in The City since late August.

At around the same time the mysterious Hana Movement came onto the scene. This "new wave" cult supported the idea of transcendental memory exchange through the use of new neurotechnology. Nothing exactly strange about them except for their meteoric rise to popularity and acceptance in every social circle from the bums drinking on the streets rambling about Jesus, to the high and mighty snorting cocaine off of hookers and dying of heart attacks in night clubs. The Hana Movement promised acceptance on a grander scale, that anybody could become enlightened if they just "opened their minds". The acceptance of the movement by minor celebrities, rock stars and the like only drove others to flock to their shrines located in the city. Though there are rumors that something dark lies behind the oppressive scent of burning incense and beginners yoga sessions.

And still around the same time as the start of the Hana Movement and the murders, a mysterious hacker seemingly was able to access every single living person's email account in the entire City. Every day up until the first of November he would send out a new email, and so a new testament to his "faithful readers". This man who would only become known by his handle as The Apostle preached that the Rapture was coming, that the big cataclysmic destruction of biblical proportions was on its way, that he could see the seams of reality and that they were breaking. The Apostle claimed that he has found Heaven and God within the Machine, within the Internet and that he was chosen to lead his people into salvation through a mass transcendence. While most dismissed the Apostle as some sort of prank or coked out hacker, he gained a few believers especially among intense technophiles intrigued by the resulting schematics and ideas the apostle presented that would lead to this new singularity. But on the first of November he left a final message a warning that when he returned it would mean the end was coming.

And finally there was the outbreak of Wonderland Syndrome. Wonderland Syndrome was a neurological disease of sorts that had been spreading through the city. The most obvious symptoms of the disease is that when afflicted a person falls into a deep coma where upon which they have brain activity very similar to that of when a normal person is dreaming. Expect that this is a dream that you can not wake up from, no matter how much you want to. No doctor can figure out why this disease seems to ravage the populace.

What follows is a resultant crazy drug trip without the drugs through the dark covered streets of this deep labyrinthine city. As a unlucky group of people are brought together in the early morning of December Twenty Sixth as each is brought to the same street corner where Mister Hisakawa comes splattering to ground right by them all. The result is a journey through the depravity of men through the lens of a world right out of a Tom Waits song, where everybody has their problems and nobody is safe. A story of cults, gods, murder, injustice, happiness, sadness, and of course tragedy all ripped in the slight Gaussian haze of a future that could be ours. Welcome to the human experience we take cash and credit.

I'll start working on a character today. I already got an idea. It is going to be a former soldier suffering from ptsd.

How advanced are implants and augmentations? My current character concept is based on a man who requires them to function properly.

@Peik
Advance enough that they could keep a person from dying if needed. If you need a gauge about the level seen in Deus Ex Human Revolution or something like Neuromancer.

How much weaponry and equipment are we allowed to have? I am currently making a paranoid prepper ex soldier who kind of still lives in the past wars he fought.

Gun control is a thing, a rather big thing part of the story because of how it effects crime. So think more hidden carry and they would be expensive specially made to make it through the scanners throughout the city. Pistols, collapsible SMGs, and petrol bombs rather then full blown rifles and the like. And the amount keep it reasonable don't be carrying like 5 weapons on you or something lol.

Gah, can't decide what to play. The Investigator type or the Vagabond type. Got some cool pictures for either.

What do you guys think?

Personally I would choose the investigator with a focus on forensics or computer hacking. I think that would compliment the character posted so far. A vagabond hacker might be interesting too :D

I'll leave a character here to be evaluated. Will change if needed.
Also, apologies for shamelessly ripping off from certain Video Game series, if this violates too much I'm able to overhaul the character.

Working on my character. I just need some nice idea's for implants and a little guidance for the history. I would like a year in which the RP takes place so that I can come up with some likely conflicts and wars :)

Alright here we go time to answer questions.

@Habibi359
As much as Godot is pretty awesome, I'm going to have to ask you to rewrite the character on the grounds that personally I prefer original characters even in fandom RPs, I feel it allows more creativity and expression for the writer. Also to note when you're rewriting I noticed some other things like for example 7'10" for the height did you mean 5'10"? Because at 7'10" An adult male that you described as fi at 165lbs would be severely underweight basketball players (a gauge for fitness at that height more or less) at that height average around 233 to 315 lbs.

@Milkman
Looking pretty good so far. And time period well the world that produces this world has a history a little skewed from our own as you will learn slowly throughout the RP "little incidents" have occured but think like the latter half of the 21st century but not close enough to be thinking about the 22nd just yet.

Character redone for re-evaluation. I left backstory because that was created by me but changed personality and looks. Perhaps I have slight obsession to find a character with visor.
And I hope the image is sufficient. Bit hard to find decent pictures.

Work in progress- I need to go to bed and it's going on 5:30 AM ^^;; here is the first of it :D so HAVE AT YOU

The Soul

The looks of sleep deprivation ways heavily in the eyes of this young woman. Standing at 5"6, 136 lbs. Her hair on busy days is thrown back in a hastily tied braid but on a normal pace, will tie it into an elaborate braided bun with blue flower pins. Her attire usually goes with her work; business casual or if the district manager was around, as suited as possible. Preferring to wearing glasses, she is known to wear a distinct pair of red-frame cat's eye glasses. Bodily frail, she isn't very strong but is at least durable.

Name: Desiree "Kaguya" Anelle Rozenhaus
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Nationality: French Japanese or more easily termed Eurasian

The Body

Profession: Librarian / Web Diver
Notable Traits:
HN Alias- Going by the Handle Name of 'Kaguya Blue', Des has garnered an audience through a series of political reviews and a firm stance against the Hana Movement. She dares not reveal her real name on any of her frequented websites- as death threats have even been made on the woman before. She shields herself behind this internet persona via proxies to vocalize against the pandemonium of a cult. On the streets, no one will know who she is- but on the web, she is known as a brilliant Journalist and hacker characterized by her trademark Blue Lily icon.

Technophile- Working with computers in the background of her job at the library, Des has been functionally surrounding herself with some of the most interesting ways to access computer networks through the protected access of a Federal Firewall. Normal trips to the hardware store normally means walking home with a new processor or even some other new gadget to insert into her many towers at home. She surfs the web like a pro, typing across keyboards like an expert pianist on ivory keys. Her multiple rigs are used primarily to host her internet addictions as well as her unhealthy appetite for hacking. By use of proxies, she bounces between services and sites to avoid detection.

Flaws:
A bit too much?- due to her inability to functionally sleep like an average adult of her age should be, she has taken to drinking wine while sitting at her computer. She's not at the addicted alcoholic point yet, but she sometimes feels frustration wash in after not having a glass after a while.

Insomniac- Desiree cannot sleep very well, if at all on some days, looking like a zombie. There are days where she comes into work without much sleep at all. She drags through the day before getting home and possibly only napping for what one could surmise to only a few hours. In the tiny hours of the morning, she awakens and begins her 2nd life online for hours on end, even till she needs to leave for work again. This is heavily due to having frequent night-terrors. Des has come to primarily use her implants to to record them for her doctor. She is constantly being haunted by nightmares of twisted biomechanical monsters of Giger-like origin
