Yeah, that's fair enough. I'm still fairly certain the single strongest character archetype for Arena is a speedster with a powerful ranged attack.

No the strongest type would be a ranged type who flies. Like winds character in the first way of the warrior tournament. After going through anime again recently, I've noticed the most powerful characters in anything are usually untouchables with some powerful ranged capacity. Which makes sense really, we advanced the direction of warfare to favor distance and firepower.

Whole reason we use guns now and fighter jets are the most potent weapons on any battle field.

I think being a speedster would cover even more bases than flying though. Wind's character was indeed powerful, but it didn't move -that- fast and so could be pretty easily taken down with a powerful (or more importantly) quick enough ranged attack. Unless they have the ability to negate certain ranged attacks upon them like a character I encountered in the first round of the most reason tournament.

When you're talking potent ranged attacks, being in the air can actually be a weakness, there isn't much to hide behind in the sky.

Since joining the Arena I've thought of tonnes of abilities that seem very normal initially but when explored further actually make them far too overpowered to face up against. At this point I quite often find myself working backwards, after having thought of a character type I then have to work out how to make them -more- beatable for more of a challenge.

That's what I'm missing. I have plenty of spots for new characters in order to remedy this situation.

Err...yes...I still need to finish up my last two male characters for their special week, first. I think I have earned the title of the master procrastinator. I can do it! Believe in myself!!!

I was looking over the characters people are using in the tournament, and ran into a disturbing fact.

What is with all the characters enhanced in the same fields? What is the point if your "enhancements" are the same as everyone else to the point they would have been better off not existing?

I've been looking at the gun problems in America, and I was thinking why don't you all just do what Britain does? If no one has guns no one needs guns.

Try convincing someone to be the first to put their guns away.

I see your point, though certain aspects of the analogy don't correspond. Arguing those would move away from the matter.

The part that concerns me about this aspect is that there is no standard level of performance, despite all these enhancements. There doesn't appear to be a way to make an agility class when the reaction rates, running speeds, and stimuli enhancements are all relatively scattered. Say I wanted to make a tank class. What level of strength do I need to aim above? Or would I just have to throw a random number out and hope it isn't too big or too small?

Well it is dependant really on those you fight. You can craft a character than can lift 50 tons flat. But you can scale that and build the character with a 50 ton limit, but have a build that is 10 tons or 25 tons as well. Really a powered character is just that a character with powers. There will not always be parity.

Sensationalized media overblowing something that is still a problem, though nowhere near as much of a problem as they would like it to be. Twenty cases every million doesn't make a whole lot when put in perspective.

Media is incredibly seditious as it is run by big business who want to create corporate machines in America once again.

By demonizing guns the media is attempting to make guns sound like a bad thing. It's incredibly Un-American.

And I don't mean that in a "Bang bang, I'm 'Murican. Cain't take mah guns away, I'mma shoot a cop."

No, I mean that in a literal sense.

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

This does not mean: "Everyone buy a gun, go out and shoot your neighbor. You have the power to kill everyone because you have a gun."

It means exactly this: "To protect one's home/family/country from any threat, foreign or domestic, your ownership of a gun shall not be infringed upon by the state."

The second amendment was put in place because our forefathers had the foresight to realize that America, like all countries, would go to war. And, like all other wars, it will inevitably happen on our shores. This law allows the people, regardless of what the media or politicians say, to own guns.

What the media sensationalizes, however, is that the law is in place so that only crazy people own guns. Every single case that the media portrays about American gun crimes never details that a majority of them are committed by nutjobs.

The National Rifle Association is demonized into a group of gun toting lunatics, when they're really an organized group intent on keeping American's right to gun ownership.

And yes, before you ask, I am a pro-gun person. This is actually pretty near and dear to me.

Well, technically a tank should be about soaking up damage, so I'd say your armour is more important anyway.

I got around the 'everyone just goes epic enhanced' issue with my tank character by sacrificing ranged potential and offensive magic by saying he's magically scaled to be half again stronger than any opponent stronger than his base rate, which is like a tonne every tier.
