Name: Hope Thomas

Age: 19

Appearance: Hope is slightly on the taller side for a young woman her age, standing at 5'10" and weighing 142lbs and possesses an arguably athletic frame. An addiction to sugary drinks and snack foods keeps her from looking like a gymnast, but this doesn't make her unfit. Her skin tone is a darkened beige healthily colored by the sun, with marks here or there from bad scrapes and dumb stunts. Hope wears her thin, bleached-blond hair at a length just below the shoulders, straight and wild the majority of the time but will pull it back whenever the mood strikes her or it would threaten to get in her eyes. Her features are soft and unfortunately still plagued with acne, with an expressive face that clearly broadcasts how she feels at the moment... which would normally be mischievous, ambivalent, or defiant. Her eyes are green and flecked with brown, and most people would describe them as "focused". Hope has a loud sort of posture that garners attention and demands respect, as if she's constantly challenging those around her for the alpha position whether or not she's aware of it.

Hope Thomas is active and more tomboyish than most, and wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt. The colors she prefers are normally eye-catching cool shades, such as luminescent blues or royal purple, and she can found wearing them dressed as a thug would in ratty and loose casual clothing. Hope would consider a polo shirt and unripped jeans to be "dressing up" and baggy pants, a faded shirt, and running shoes to be "wearing fuck-whatever".

Backstory: Hope Thomas didn't start out in the slums... but all in all that's where she ended up. Originally born into the lower-middle class, Hope's father walked out of the picture at a young age. Raised by her mother, an RN for Marst Mercy Hospital, money was often tight and Hope was often left unsupervised. For better or for worse this shaped her developing psyche, as she came to be more adventurous from finding things to do and resenting those who would impede her freedom. Hope and her mother never saw eye to eye and the impulsive Hope would sometimes act far outside of acceptable for petty reasons.

During school, this caused problems on more than one front. Hope would begin to skip classes and hang around with the bad crowd. Her marks were low and her future wasn't terribly bright. Hope's behavior began to change for the better after spending a bit of time in highschool and broadening her horizons. She realized that the cliques and social circles were another form of impeding her freedom and treated them how she always had reacted to something like that: by going against the grain. Hope began to do basically what she wanted with little regard to trivial rules nor social norms, but was fortunate enough to have a solid moral center with which to do the right-if-unpopular thing. Her abilities began to manifest at about this time and cemented her sense of importance, that she was meant for bigger and better things.

Prior to graduating highschool Hope was almost kicked out for attempting to stage a walkout after a friend of hers was nearly expelled for violating a Zero Tolerance rule. Luckily the media made a spectacle of it and she was able to graduate with her fellow seniors on time. Currently Hope lives in the slums, however. Choosing to spend her time slacking off, skipping class, being a delinquent and not listening to the rules came back to bite her in the long run. She resides in cramped apartment with two roommates, both college students who decided to take the cheapest housing option to save money for "school books". She works at a gas station on the South side of Marst City, and is frequently on thin ice with her manager for mouthing off and talking back.

Power(s): In all honesty, these 2 powers are just one power with 2 specific uses & caveats for individuality and flavor.

  • Telekinesis (Specialty: Strong Force) - Using only her mind, Hope is able to lift and manipulate objects or exude a blast of mental force with destructive potential. Her ability to affect objects or send waves of force is directly tied to how well she can focus and her emotional state. A calmer, more relaxed Hope Thomas can lift more weight with a greater degree of control. An angrier, frantic Hope however is prone to destroying things with her mind instead. Her power is derived from the manipulation of dark matter in minuscule ways that impact the much more tangible world around her, by generating force through small twitches in particles or moving objects through keeping dark matter particles in place or moving them slightly. When Hope "lifts" an object she's not actually picking up that object, she's moving the space around it, although she is completely oblivious to how she accomplishes this.

Current Power Level: Currently Hope is capable of generating small waves of force capable of shoving things around, but not in a directly damaging way much like a push. To injure someone with this power she would need to have them up towards a surface or knock them over. Fine control is outside of her grasp at the moment and as such she is unable to lift objects with any kind of control, let alone heavier objects or perform complex movements. Hope is able to expend more effort to increase the strength of this power at a drastically increased power cost and minor damage to herself manifesting in headaches to begin with and cranial hemorrhaging at the opposite extreme.
  • Flight (Telekinetic) - With her mastery of mentally lifting objects, Hope can lift herself to allow her to soar through the air. This manner of flight, while similar to some Gened individuals propelling themselves through the sky, is not a natural form of movement for Hope and one she must focus on. Hope, with her telekinetic manipulation opposed to a more natural form of flight, can travel with more control than most other superheroes and will eventually be able to travel at higher speeds by exerting more force into moving herself forward. However, if she loses her focus mid-flight she can fall out of the air, and if she continues to panic she won't be able to engage in flight to save herself from the fall.

Current Power Level: Hope isn't a fantastic flier yet, and isn't truly capable of flight. More like levitation. Hope is able to consistently hold herself in place in the air and move at slow speeds with intense focus, although this takes a great degree of power on her part and she can't be interrupted or perform any other actions while doing so.

Other

Personality Overview: Chaos is no stranger to Hope Thomas, a self-appointed "cool chick" and a thrill-seeking ledge walker. Hope feels her most content when she's treading a fine line and challenging the status quo. This can make her seem abrasive to those in authority or annoying to anyone with buttons easily pushed, but Hope isn't one to let law stand in the way of what's right. She has a strong sense of freedom and will stand against the powerful and the popular if she truly believes them to be in the wrong, no matter the consequence. However, she can be a little hasty and quick on the temper and possesses a terrible habit of jumping to conclusions and throwing in all her chips at the drop of a hat.

At her best, people would describe Hope Thomas as "determined", "unflinching", and "courageous". At her worst, people would describe her as "destructive", "reckless", and "stubborn".

Why Superheroism?: Hope's thinking in the short term, as usual. Superheroics appeal to her because it's fast, it's exciting, it's dangerous, and it's fun. Not to mention the fringe benefits of a fat paycheck, her face on merchandise, and doing something that actually matters instead of pushing pencils or mixing cement for 10 hours a day.
