Roan is a patient man that can be pretty irritable if actions are taken which don’t seem to advance a set goal. Being a somewhat orderly man, he mostly prefers to act following a well-thought plan instead of relying on continuous improvisations. While he has no qualms about hurting and killing others he finds preferable to solve problems without violence if the possibility presents itself, especially so if it can avoid bringing innocents and bystanders to danger. Somewhat cautious, if he has given his word on something he will follow it at the most of his abilities.

Naturally distrustful of strangers due to his previous career choices, barring rare situations, it takes a long time for him to trust someone. For those few he befriends he attempts to be friendly, at least the friendliest he can be, all the while holding a competitive streak and a certain dificultty in taking responsibility for his mistakes.He is a firm believer that the weak shouldn’t pick weapons until they are strong enough to use them and, in exchange of protection and safety, accept the rule of the strong .

Lastly, Roan has no issue with taking orders he judge sensible but will take a defiant and sarcastic attitude when dealing with actions or commands he deem disagreeable.Distant from a fervent worshipper, his devotion to the The Archfiend stems from recognizing the needs of laws and its rigid enforcement on society while seeking privileges to oneself.Added to that, there is a certain respect for the deity affable, honest and tyrannical behavior.

Roan was born on the outskirts of a small town far away from Varisia, on a crude hut in the middle of the woods, half a day distant from the closest neighbour. Since childhood he helped his family making ends meet by foraging what he could, from edible fungi to small animals on the rare occasions his arrow struck true. His life kept being a daily struggle until his seventeen’s, when he found a different use to his skills. One night, as he looked for some more wood to help pass the cold of winter, Roan heard screams deeper on the forest and stealthily approaching its source, saw an almost naked man running from what seemed to be the town militia.

Trying to keep his nerves steady he attempted to hit the fugitive's legs with an arrow but instead his shot pierced the unsuspecting man's heart. While staring at the shocked expression of the now dead man, Roan was assaulted by an initial mixture of fear and surprise which gave away to the same euphoria he always felt when he managed to successful hunt. The next day intrigued by the previous night sensation and feeling the nice weight of part of the deceased man bounty on his hands he decided to move to the city and became a bounty hunter, chasing far more profitable prey.

With the decision set, he left behind his house and family for fear of endangering them. Despite the fact that they were reluctant in seeing him leaving they ended up accepting he wanted to find his place on the big world. Initially suffering a cultural shock from the vast different environment he soon found himself at ease on the city, adapting to the laws and way of civilization after a few misconceptions that almost got him jailed. Roan then went to face many close encounters with death, but instead of deterring him the life threatening encounters and the thrill of the hunt were enough incentives for him to keep going on this path. Immersed on his job, most of his contact with others was for fighting, obtaining and expending his hard-earned pay.

Around his twenty three years his life took another drastic change when, after a successful “hunt” on the northlands, he married a florist he had been enamored with ever since reaching these unfamiliar lands. Desiring to settle down and live near his newfound family, he joined the expanding city garrison who faced the threat of a citizen armed revolution against the oppressive rule of the governor. With the situation growing worse every day, Roan’s unit was tasked with maintaining order and brutally dispatching any “subversive element” found. Which he had no problem doing.

On a hot summer night, after having almost finished the routine patrol, Roan saw a cloaked man trying to inconspicuously move past curfew towards the city docks. Alarmed, he crept after him, making sure he hadn’t being perceived. Predictably, the man met three others on a shabby warehouse and while Roan could only discern a few words of everything they were discussing, due to the distance of his hiding place, he concluded they were a threat and strikes the closest one by surprise.

What succeeded was a fierce fight, as instead of the untrained, quivering rebels he was accustomed with slaying, the remaining enemies were capable warriors. He would have died if, at the last moment, the man he had followed to arrive there hadn’t pulled his weapon back at the last moment. Taking advantage of this opening Roan managed to kill his enemies. With his last breath the man said his name, and curious to the reason behind the man hesitation, Roan approached the fallen man face and, to his horror, recognized what could only be an older version of his brother, who he hadn’t seen since he left his parents house and had now being killed by his own hands.

Shaken and distressed upon this revelation, Roan arrives at his house and begins heavily drinking to cope with what he had done. Worried, his wife appears and after a series of unfortunate words exchanged they start arguing. The debate escalates and in his altered state of mind beats her to within an inch of her life. While she survived it was obvious for both that their union had effectively ended.

Without delay he left his guard post and the country to wander aimlessly for some time, until ultimately he came to terms with what happened by blaming the foolishness of his brother on everything that had happened that night. Seeking a new path in life, Roan went to partake in many odd jobs, but for a man with a limited skill set as himself there wasn’t many things he could excel and so he naturally went back to hunting beasts to survive, similarly to his childhood years.

It has been many years since then and frustrated at the inability for common animals to provide the challenge he desired he began to exclusively hunt monsters, the more famous and dangerous, the better. Hearing the tale of a magnificent monster named the Sandpoint Devil, Roan now arrives in Sandpoint. Though, he wouldn’t be surprised if the course of his life changed yet again in unexpected ways, as it wouldn’t be the first time…
