I go away for a little bit and the chat shuts down. Had a lot of fun there, and I'm definitely gonna miss it. *Sniff.*

We really do need a cool kid IRC channel again.

I know I haven't been on the last couple months or so but I truly loved my time in the IRC. There was almost always something going on no matter the time of day. I dropped off the IRC and The Guild about the same time with my best friend passing away I just couldn't motivate myself to be here. I'm only here now because I happened to click the link on the home screen of my phone by accident.

While the channel is no longer being fully moderated and the old widget no longer works, the channel is not gone and quite a few people will be sticking around.

Well, I'm going to miss the IRC. Granted, I wasn't in there very often, but what times I did spend in there were greatly enjoyed. Nothing against the new chat, but the atmosphere is just different. And mostly, I think it's just how much closer the connection to the site is, like it seems to compel people to stay on topic. It doesn't have that random, silly quality of the IRC. And it really makes me regret not being on the IRC while I could.

This is both a blessing and a curse, in my opinion. The IRC chat was a clique of people who knew each other very well and talked about anything and everything, but it only felt tangentially related to the Guild. The current chat is a much more cohesive addition.

I just joined a little bit ago, so I'm unfamiliar with what's leaving and all that, but goodbye Harsh and happy trails!

I changed the topic title from "Goodbye to #roleplayerguild" to "Goodbye to #roleplayerguild IRC chat" to ward off confusion.

I've lurked in the chat since around the time it was created, and I've always appreciated the IRC channel's important role as a place to hang out that was distinctly separate from the Guild. I've often used the channel as a place to touch base with people without having to put on my admin hat, login to the forum, and catch up on actual work.

I appreciate the time and effort of Harsh and everyone else that kept the chat alive over the years. For instance, Harsh is responsible for putting in the nag effort that's often required to get me to do basic things like update a link on the homepage.

It's nice to see @Akami post, finally filling in some history/trivia that I've wondered for years.

Anyways, I see this announcement as an end to the more active and deliberate operation of the channel, not the end of it all. I'll still lurk there.
