What is Modempunk?
First, take a pessimistic outlook on the 80's. Unemployment is at an all time high. The price of gas is in the 6 digits. Movies studios start going bankrupt when people can no longer afford to go to the movies; Piracy is rampant. Crime is rampant.
Then you add rampant speculation. Anti-piracy laws get passed, and now you need a license to own a personal computer, just like owning a gun. The dollar goes into a hyper-inflation spiral, and banks start issuing their own currency, 1800's style, only this time they put it on floppies and called them "Cred-points". And so on.
How do you play?
The system is really dead simple, being that you only really ever use 1 12-sided die (A d12) for all checks, and playing fast and loose with the rules is encouraged. You should really check out the rulebook, (It's right after the Joints'n'Jivers rules). The whole thing is about 15 pages, It'll take you about 5 minutes, tops.
Do you have a plot?
Nothing specific, but I'd rather figure out if anyones actually interested in playing a game like this first, and then figuring out what the story is actually going to be.
Heres the char sheet right away if you're interested:
