So, just like the title of this topic says, I'm new on here, and as for the rusty and very nervous part, please hear me out. Basically I used to roleplay quite a bit on a website whose main focus really wasn't roleplaying, and I caught myself thinking about those past experiences a lot lately. The logical course of action was to look for and sign up to a roleplaying website, alas that was impeded by the fear of not being able of writing and creating characters as well as before. But today I decided to-excuse me for the abbreviation- YOLO it and well, here I am.

So, uh, hi?

Oh, sure thing! Do you have any recommendations? And by the way can you join a rp while its going on or do you have to sign up for it before?

@PolkaDancer

The website is a very individualized approach- joining an RP is decided by the GM. For the most part, you can join any RP partway through its story if the status says that they're still open, or you can sign up before it starts.

As for recommendations- you'll have to give your preferences for that. Science fiction? Fantasy? Slice of life? Realistic? Anime? Historical? Alternate Universe?

Wow, there are that many type of rps? I would have to say that anything out of the ordinary would be great, so definitively something science fiction-y or with at least some elements of fantasy/science fiction in it.

@PolkaDancer Just a tip, if I may, I've not been on the site for very long, but I've RPed for quite a bit before joining. The best thing that I can say, is start off with fandom RPs, just to write what you know, move on to other stuff later, once you've lost your rustyness. Dunno if that helps, but hey, anyone can be good at RPing with a bit of practice.

@PolkaDancer
Yeah, there are dozens of different types. There are roleplays like @Afina's "Over the Ages," which combines magic, centuries' worth of technology, and the Illuminati.

There other medieval roleplays, there are modern mythology roleplays, yeah.

Just ask if you have any questions!
If you use a [@Mention], I'll get your reply faster, btw.

Check the interest check topics, any rp that says apply is usually open to new people. Also check people's signatures - Like in mine I keep the Rps I am gming listed there.

And welcome to the forum. I was in the same place as you when I got here. Used to Rp only on Adventure Quest, stopped and wanted to rp again, came here. Been a great choice, hope it works out as well for you.

If you wait for October to get into full-swing, this mean zombie-clones driven by mechas holding lightsabers, in space.

I have no idea what Foster said, looking at it from a completely grammar/spelling/punctuation based viewpoint.

"... this mean-" suggests singular- "-zombie-clones-" suggests plural multiples "driven by mechas" suggests that they are being controlled by anime mechs, not vice versa- "holding lightsabers, in space"- is fairly straightforward.

Although, completely realistically speaking, anime mechs controlling cloned zombies while holding lightsabers in space sounds like a really bad idea, one, because the anime mechs are probably bigger than the zombies, and two, because they might slash the zombie in half. And because legged robots don't work well in space.

Speaking of which, why would anyone even want to use a light saber in space? I mean, cool and all, but light saber versus an M1911 would equal the guy with the light saber dead. Common sense- no man's or machine's reflexes are fast enough to avoid or block a bullet at twenty times the range of a sword, when that bullet is going holy-shit fast.

And with an M1911, you could control where you're going, when in space- with a light saber, you could, I guess, throw it? Firing a bullet is more effective, though.

I'm sorry I had a grammar nazi moment.

I just find "mecha" to be completely inferior to "mechs," because "mechs" suggest a design that includes science and physics, while "mecha" suggests completely aesthetic designs that work perfect.

And because if we had the technology to create lightsabers, we could make so much better ranged weapons.

First of all, I welcome our newcomer as a newcomer and rusty person myself.

I always assumed that mecha existed in fictional universes with either fundamentally altered physics or background magic that made the humanoid form more effective than it would otherwise be. This might also explain the largely ineffective use of armor piercing high caliber rounds against relatively thin armor plating. Thus, for me, each had their respectable place. They just never seemed to belong next to each other.

As for lightsabers... There are so many things that strike me as being wrong with that technology and its application in universe that I would probably have swollen hands if I tried to type them all out. Given their unlimited power system, as they never require power packs or charging, they could simply have been employed on a larger scale and made the forward half of a cruiser or larger ship mostly invulnerable and capable of penetrating any deflection shield or armor. Also, they do only have viable use in an environment without solid projectile weapons. Blaster bolts move far slower than bullets and have cooling issues that slow their rate of fire as well. Basically, only in a universe that is exclusively dependent on such technologies for combat can a lightsaber be a complete weapon system on its own. This is assuming jedi prescience, of course, without which the blade's defensive function is almost completely nullified.

I think you need to learn colloquial English in this 'poorly defined language.' Might help you out when communicating.
