Over the course of thousands of years, countless numbers of demons and otherwise alien creatures have invaded the world. Many bring back slaves from this land, and others are made slaves with a bit o' magic tampering. Others, as soon as the summoner died or something of the like, were loosed in the world, and most were forcibly shoved back into the Hell they came from, if not outright slain.
And then you have leftovers. Orcs, Goblins, Bugbears, the whole mess of things. Some are decent mages, as they descend from unwilling Elves, humans, and Dwarves, and others are decent warriors. 90% of the time, they fit in with the next army and get themselves killed in a big war...or something like that.
Then you got 10%. Half of those are wanderers - hobos, vagrants, bandits, bards, cartographers, etc. They're as hardy as the rest of them when it comes to travelling, but in the face of danger, they tend to panic a little too much. After all, nobody bothered to tell them that bears live in caves. Makes sense as to why they're usually just fodder, right?
The other half bear the most semblance to what could've been their races if it weren't for some meddling eldritch force selling them to the biggest sacrifice. Distinct cultures and exotic weapons come into play here. Among those races that can forge, the Hobgoblins are most righteously deserving of their title.
Hobgoblins are renowned for their expertise with fire, or more specifically, what they can make with it. As coined by their "favorite creatures", the Humans, Hobgoblins are great cooks and ironsmiths, and specialize in various steels from just about every kind of metal you toss at them. This puts them at odds with a few other races (or, did, in the dwarves' case; you don't see too many Hobs for a reason) for the honor of being the best craftsmen, but considering the Hobs (for short) just got their distinction from the rest of their ilk not too long ago, it isn't surprising to say that the Hobs were given the benefit of the doubt when their blacksmiths opened up. Like orcs, they love to use lamellar designs, as they're light, maneuverable, and protective for all their troubles, using as little steel as possible (because from where the goblinoids originated, most iron was refined via iron sand. Large chunks of ore were unheard of.) Their skin tones, unlike those of their greenish-yellowish-rainbowish colored brethren, are always shades of grey, and are a lot more matte because of their hygenic nature. They have eyes the color of gold, amber, and ruby, and stand about the same height as humans, as well as stand in the same weight range. Rumors say that the hobs have a bit o' man blood in them, which might be true, considering there's also a million hues of half-hobs half-men and whatnot running around the world without a surname to stick onto themselves...or well, wherever they came from.
In terms of being assets for war, they boast more dexterity and strength than their run-of-the-mill counterparts, but are best known for being the smiths of the fallen heroes' armors - again, one cannot stress enough that they can manipulate metal as though it were a draught made by dwarves' hands. Hardening, tempering, and honing are children's play to them. It's also why they're one of the most hated races in this land.
Just a forethought : only one clan of these Hobs are truly, truly submissive and friendly - the Aulds. As the name implies, they're probably among the first Hob clans to get around to being smiths, and as such, have developed the most stable culture. To protect themselves from magic that would otherwise enslave them to the will of others, they have developed high-pressure forging of raw iron, as 'cold iron' has the damnably strange property of attracting and deflecting magic. Protection is decent, at best, because they're nomads. Iron isn't always so plentiful at times, and elves willing to accept the coin for protection enchantments are even harder. Traditional forging has become a bit of an uncertainty with the Aulds.
I love them. Simply put, yes.
EDIT: OF to bed now. Will update the races accordingly. If you could, make some subraces for me ;)
Dropping this, but you're more than welcome to include my rendition of Hobs into the lore, as well as any tertiary races that follow the same / similar history.
My cs for now. I'll have to finish and edit it a little later.
Merilwyn of Estelle
Gender: Female - Age: appears to be 28 - Race: Andrann turned Mûi
“If you think life owes you anything, you're wrong. Terrible will things happen; people will die, wars will start, and you will be pushed to your limit. Yet, there are still reasons to keep moving on- still beauty in this life. You just need a keen eye to see it.”
Appearance: Dark mossy green eyes, which are like that of the lush forest floor, strikingly contrasts against Meril’s bright scarlet hair which hangs a few inches below her shoulders. It is often covered by a dark hood and left down; as unlike her elven kin she does not care for braids. Her naturally fair skin has been tanned to a warm honey tone thanks for her many days adventuring in the woods; and her hands made tough from drawing a bowstring. Although Merilwyn is petite, owning a height of 5’4”, her presence is firm and confident.
currently:
a portrait of her, before she became Mûi:
Personality: Before Merilwyn left the comforts of her home, she was a young and ignorant girl. She believed the world revolved around her, as most nobles do. She has since learned otherwise, and has become very humble. Merilwyn loathes death. She believes all life is valuable, and hates to kill unnecessarily. She is also very protective of her friends; and for good reason. She understand both the luxuries and hardships of life- having experienced both. Though Merilwyn is confident in her skills, she often worries about what could go wrong.
History: For many years the fortress of Galadhon had been a home to the young lady Merilwyn, and her older brother Vhenan. The two hailed from the wealthy house of Estelle, and had been schooled extensively in magic and nobility. While her brother had taken a liking to the latter; Merilwyn found she had a natural talent in the arcane, specifically with the elements. Swift with a bow and armed with her magic, she became a well known elemental archer. She rose quickly in the ranks of Andrann battle mages, those below her took to calling the maiden the ‘burning rose’.
In early adulthood, Vhenan had become an ambassador while Merilwyn was commander of a small unit of archers. The two lived peacefully in Galadhon; until a small party of ambassadors and artisans, her brother included, had been sent beyond their stronghold. Supposedly, the group was to meet with a caravan of merchants to discuss trade. It seemed a simple task, until they did not return.
Days after, scouts confirmed that the party was attacked, but could not say by who nor if there were any survivors. Hopeful that her brother lived, Merilwyn pushed for further search parties, support, even retaliation against these attackers. None would give their aid, saying that they could not risk more lives. The Andrann is a small clan after all. Merilwyn, without permission, snuck away to find her answers. When she finally reached her brother, he had indeed not survived. It would appear human bandits ambushed the party, they have after all sought after Galadhon for years.
Merilwyn could have returned to the Andrann, no one had seen her leave after all. She could resumed her family title as a Lady of Estelle, managing the funds as her brother once had; or continued to lead her small unit of archers. Instead she left, and in doing so became Mûi. The people of Galadhon were left to wonder what became of their Burning Rose, and in her own way became a legend, "The mage who disappeared like thin air,". She lived by herself for a total of five years or so, taking the occasional job to earn money. Lending a hand on the farm? No problem. Taking down a group of bandits? Even easier. She lived comfortably like that. Until word reached her of the Mad King Vyshaan, as she was ready to lend a hand.
Equipment:
~ a simple embroidered traveling bag ~ a small pouch to carry mint and other herbs ~ concealed throwing knives ~ a lightweight, small and simple sword ~ a silver pendant with red jewels baring the Estelle family crest
~ a beautiful longbow, hand crafted by Merilwyn herself. No expense was spared, as the finest rosewood and hickory was used; along with soft leather for the grip and a tight bowstring. Runes native to her Andrann lineage are engraved upon the dark wood, so that the bow may withstand her elemental magic. Meril has taken a liking to calling the bow Rýn; elvish for burning
Other: As a skilled archer, Meril has extensive knowledge on bow’s and how to make them. Due to her magical training, she understand enchantments and runes. She understands both modern elvish and ancient elvish. She has basic knowledge about herbs and where to find them. Her weakness is close combat, though she can manage it- an experienced swordsman could easily out maneuver her. In elvish, Merilwyn means ‘rose maiden’.She loves mint, makes great tea, and is a talented artist.
Alright, so whomever has shown interest is all i will be accepting. So if you have posted a CS in thread, gave interest in anyway, you are in. Everyone else who might be interested PM me first.
Let's get the rest of these CS's finished so we can start this story.
My cs for now. I'll have to finish and edit it a little later.

Let me know when you are finished. I like what i have seen thus far :D
Should be very straight forward, though because of our diversity in races i had to make a plethora of adjustments to the starting story. If anyone wants to create a second character be my guest :D
I will start this RP slow, baby steps at first, before we start our true run ;)
Awesome job with getting those posts up really fast, and i like their quality as well.
I will iron out a post tonight before i go to bed as i will be traveling tomorrow and will be without my computer for a bit this weekend. I'm visiting family out in Baltimore, and will be gone until midday Monday. I should be able to use their computer to write the next post after this, so don't fret. Just an FYI if i seem absent compared to my normal self :)
Treat this phase as character introduction time. We have other soldiers traveling with us, of sorts. So if you want to mention their replies than you are more than welcome to. If you want to bring a NPC into the fold, this is the time for that as well. They will be apart of the group not in the CS tab.
Character quirks? Odd little things about your character.
Rhian, for example, obsessively keeps her mask clean, be it with magic or manual labor, as evidenced by the fact that she is covered in blood and muck but the mask isn't. She also just likes idly humming to herself and using that simple magic to create an illusion of whatever she's thinking about or song she's singing. A drunken dragon, a firefly, a tragedy, so on so forth.
Knickknacks. Rhian loves collecting knickknacks from wherever she's traveled. A rock she liked. A broken arrow head. Anything that can fit into a satchel really.

Well, for Merilwyn she shifts from foot to foot when she is impatient (which is often), and can't stand getting dirt (or anything for that matter) under her nails or on her hands. It's such a pet peeve, she even came up with an excuse- like, "It makes it harder to grip my bow," however, it is really because she's a little girl inside. Also, she loves anything mint flavored, especially tea. Which is why she specifically carries a pouch containing mint and herbs, so when they are at camp she can make tea.
When she is upset, or deep in thought, she will hold her family pendant or roll it between her fingers. She used to keep a journal where she would draw people or places she wanted to remember- she lost it after the last battle, but if she could get her hands on a new one she would probably use it for the same purpose.
Also, it is not a good idea to touch, hold, or in anyway handle her bow. It is her pride and joy. Her precious.
