The Sun Will Never Set

There is one word that matters in this world, this modern world, that word is progress. It is the fuel that makes us go forward, progress. Progress has lead the great nations of this planets through tough times and it has made easy times easier but progress takes the form of many things. Revolution! Radical new ideas that have the power to shake countries to their foundation. Technology! The beating heart of industrial nations, churning out goods for the masses or the beating wings of an artisan society propelled by new techniques and materials. War! Battling against your enemies to further your culture, faith, territory. And diplomacy, to build bridges over rough water and to walk to the other side to embrace your comrade. Progress takes many forms, will your progress stand the test of time?

The last 150 years have been a roller coaster of progress, technologies and ideologies spread like wild fire and contest against each other, long lived monarchies were toppled by the power of their people, the sky was added to the domain of man with the introduction of flight! The seas were tamed by ships of steel, sailing across choppy water to bring trade or to wage war, the land was crisscrossed by vast stretches of rail that carried the fruits of the earth to factories and carried back wondrous products. Culture spread from one end of the globe to the other with the power of film and radio and religions contested one another for followers. This is a glorious new age, an age where The Sun Will Never Set.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to "The Sun Will Never Set", a fantasy nation RP set in a time that resembles the 1890's-1910's and is focused on the themes and technologies of the time, including colonialism, looming wars and spheres of influence. In this RP I intend on completely limiting the use of stats, facts and figures and instead will rely on character interaction and mutual agreement to build he history of the planet, yes, even the wars will not be stat based but instead will be fought between players and an outcome will be decided between them, whether they want to use stats or not. So, basically I'm giving you guys a lot of responsibility and I expect maturity, no super duper nations and the understanding that it is OK to be on the LOSING side; its fine if your tank army is beaten by a rag tag group of revolutionaries, it only serves to add to the story! It's all up to how you guys want to play it out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. My word is law, it is final unless I go back on it. I would love to hear ideas, opinions and suggestions but if I don't say yes, please don't flip out.

2. I only want LIGHTHEARTED debates in the OOC, I don't want to see hide nor hair of a legit argument. Either calm down or resolve it in PM.

3. No Godmodding/Powergaming/Metawhatsit, what is stated in the OOC that has credence in the RP is not known to your characters unless it meant to be known.

4. Grammar and spelling must be readable. Posts should not be one sentence. I want to see some good paragraphs. Of course if there's not much to post, that's fine, post it anyway.

5. STAY ACTIVE! PLEASE! If your are thinking of joining the NRP, keep in mind I require that you post at least once every two days. I get things can get hectic in life, but want to see this be fairly active and not die four posts into the IC. Let us know if you are going on some sort of extended absence and try to tie up any loose ends so you don't leave other players hanging.-

6. The Great War Machines! Now war is always fun to have in NRPs, and I am going to be very liberal on big nations possessing some massive war machine. However, the few restrictions I will apply is that you can't just whip it out on every battle and they will be generally be slow moving. Other than that, go nuts! Just understand they are not really there to win your nation a war, but to add to the world and have a Goliath for David to face. Be reasnable please, please?

7. On that note, technology in general! I will say that we shall limit it generally to something of the early 1910's AKA, no jets at all, wider diversity of armored vehicles and aircraft, etc. Flying wings and such will be allowed and to be honest, I will just play it by ear.

8. Have fun! No really, I'm being half serious here. This is a fantasy/adventure based NRP with notable characters, places, and wars alike! Don't get to caught up in realism and just sit back and let things slide by. We are all here to have a good time, so simply shrug and move on from it.

I'll keep this on tab and see if space opens up. If it does, I'll be doing a slightly modified version of Yamatai.

@Voltus_VentusDid you copy the OP of the previous game?
Just asking if you made any changes. Kinda easy to miss.

Anyways, I of course join with the Heavenly Empire of Yllendthyr.
I'll also call the other players. They are newbies to this site but not the game.

As well as a few other topics to discuss.

1. Starting date?
2. Starting tech level? What are allowed?
3. Map? Fantasy or Earth? (doesn't change whether you can have custom nations with fantasy races)

The fourth is something I must elaborate upon. I feel our nations were gigantic. While having a cap on nation sizes is also counterproductive we need an incentive why people should creatr average sized nations the most.
Having Europe as the gathering point for adadvanced nations is one such method because you have limited space and people are naturally inclined to create a nation kinda similar to the one from real world. That's why I support Earth map among others.
@ClocktowerEchos There are of course spots for you and for a long while to anyone.

1. We will be using the French Republican Calendar, look it up, as for the year, 1910.

2. Great War tech, planes are in their infancy, dreadnoughts are only just coming out, tanks are not real yet, bolt action rifles. I'll allow for people to concentrate on certain things but at the cost of others. i.e. Small army, big navy.

3. We will let other's decide.

4. I will come up with an incentive, anywho, not everyone wants to be a great power or a massive nation and the simple addition of a scale would help put things into perspective.

Um, can't we keep the WW2 tech? That's a massive change.
I don't mind if we take it back by a notch and assume interwar era but WW2 is when all the nice "toys" are invented.
That's my biggest peeve with the whole.
I can adjust my profile to fit but I prefer the stipulations on tech from the original game.
WW1 can be interesting for the war enthusiasts or who like that history era but the energy of the WW2 fits casual roleplaying better.
And not just for war. Transportation, communication and all else would be far more difficult this way.

Otherwise I have no problem with these, even with the date. WW2 tech and 1910s as calendar date can make sense since this is fantasy, things didn't happened exactly like in our world. And if we pick Earth map then colonialism and 1910s date would be a good match, IMO
As for the fourth point you don't need a literal incentive. Just make it obvious to people that extra large countries are going to be the exception rather than the rule.

I'd be inclined to agree with Willy on keeping a higher tech level, for many of the same reasons. Secondly, I fully intend to rejoin as the People's Republic of Kataylabinsk, and adjust it as necessary to the changed circumstances.

Yeah, I'm with you guys on keeping the tech WWII. In my opinion, it allows for a much greater range of possibilities. Not to mention as Willy said, that's a seriously drastic change in tech for a lot of us returning players. I always much preferred the "dieselpunk" style era of the 1940s more so than the early 1900s. Mainly because of the stated above reason, but also its a lot less controversial when it comes to tech. It always seems you have people arguing over "The first semiauto rifles!" or "Full metal planes" ect. 1940s aka early WWII era tech gets rid of a lot of that stupid tech argument stuff.

Also, I shall be rejoining as The Greater Republic of Avalia. AIRSHIPS FTW!!!!

To me dieselpunk is more of a 20s or 30s era thing. Before the world wars.
Granted, 40s era sci-fi could be called dieselpunk too.
Anything after WW2 is rather packed in the rocketpunk era, though.

And yeah, with your presence we are pretty much guaranteed to have the air battleships back.

Personally I wish Voltus wouldn't be so averse to jet fighters.
I mean I'll try to make them less efficient in some form but jets fit my nation much better. Mostl because turbofans are much quieter than propeller craft and my elves have sensitive ears.
I don't mind nerfing them enough to make them fair for everybody else if there's some worry in it (technically jets aren't all that rad anyways but if people are still afraid I can make my jets even shittier).

I have some great airship pictures, as well. They'd be fun if I can incorporate at least some.

Anyways, there's a big question we may want to reach a consensus on.
What kind of map the game should be played on?

1.) Earth
As in the real life Earth. Europe, Africa and all the rest. It gives you a sense of familiarity but of course natural resources and detailed terrain may be changed toi fit the player's ideas with his/her nation.

2.) Osetia
The map of the previous game. It's basically a single huge continent even if it isn't obvious at first glance. We used it last time, would it be good this time as well?

3.) A completely new map
If neither of the two choices sits well with you.

So yeah, let's vote!

I think he's against them so people aren't like "oh, I'm all jet fighters dat r supa fast n shit. U can't catch me since jets go fasta den propellers."

I think the overall reason for the time shift is to prevent people from going into the late ww2 stuff of jets and guilded rockets/explosives and automatic rifles and all that stuff.

If that's the case why not have all your pilots wear earmuffs or sound proof helmets with radios in them? I can't see how those would at least bring them down to acceptable levels.

I'm actually going to go for this one since it means that the irl nations we base ours on would make more sense if we put them where the irl nations are.
Something that erks me in NRPs is how you could have a pseudo-Russia, a pseudo-Roman, a pseudo-China and a pseudo-France all next to each other with out any similarities even though realistically, they'd all be closer to one culture due to in game location.

Earmuffs only make sense if you have modern or at least cold war era avoinics where you barely use your five senses and instead rely on the devices.
Elves are the complete opposite. Their smallest fighters lack absolutely any avionics and they only have a radio and a gunsight. It works because they're elves with enhanced senses including something similar to natural gyroscopes so they can navigate without devices. But if you have them wear earmuffs it dulls one of their senses.
Granted, warzones would be noisy as hell anyways so elven soldiers would just need to get used to things.
Still, jets may give an unique flair to my nations. I can reason away why I am using jets while the rest of the world does not. Also I sure don't wish to be OP. Having some advantage in aircraft tech, sure. Mithril is nice in that. But stomping my opposition in the air, hell no!

Anyways, what's OP about automatic rifles? It's called machinegun and they're older than almost any other weapon used in Ww2.
Same way guided rockets are actually kind of old. Reliable guided rockets, though? it'd be different. Maybe if they are similar to my flying bombs, huge so there's enough space for the equipment.

Well that's just my two cents. Plz don't shoot the messenger >.<"

As for your troops, would some sort of "hearing training" be possible for them to get accustomed to the sounds of war with the pilots going through another "phase" of it to help them ignore the sounds of aircraft?

As for AR's, they use hard hitting bullets a rifle would use, delivering them at the speed of a machine gun and as portable as an SMG. Basically a nice little package of lead spewing death. Again, just my reasoning behind it.

The rockets part, I'm sure someone will find a way for them to all magically find their targets in one way or another.

Well you know what? If your so worried/focused on tech being "precisely" from the era or being too over powered then your missing the entire point of this kind of NRP. We got airships, elves, bird people, and all sorts of crazy shit.

Let's not care and have fun dammit! As long as we stick the style more so than the actual, literal tech then we'll be fine. So long as someone doesn't whip out a F22 or Abrams tank than its all good in my eyes. I think we can trust each other to have fun with the story with our on envisions of crazy, unique nations.

That's why I would like to stay in early 1940s era tech. It gives you a much wider variety of options in terms of style. Also, I got more WWII fantasy tech pics...... and I don't wanna go spend hours image hunting again. XD

Also, we never had any real problem with the tech era previously, so why make it an issue now?

Side Note: Not trying to be mean and have no ill will to anyone, in case it came off like that.
