I mean I hope a lot of this technology is partially joke, because a lot of it doesn't fit the whole SAO/ALO based premise xD

@Eklispe I am working on now, a post that is.

I mean, usually in Fantasy roleplays you're not supposed to have a tank but if your engineering / magical forging capabilities are high enough you can easily make one? Same goes for airships. Really, technological innovation becomes a whole lot easier when you can engineer the first half of it and say "the second half runs because magic".

I understand that and all but like this RP is based off a series that is centered around fantasy mmorpgs and like having military grade equipment, such as tanks and warships, literally defeats the purpose of there being the premise of melee and magic battles fought between players not military grade equipment versus military grade equipment.

This is true, though we did see automated defenses in the anime in the form of those automaton knights that defended the passage up through Yggdrasil.

Yeah, but do keep in my mind they were monster mobs, it's not like they were created by one specific race for the intention of war.

Also to build more on my point, if there are tanks and warships what will stop someone from making a gun powered by magic? After all tanks and warships would mean the technology and ability to make a single handheld gun powered by magic isn't impossible.

Realistically though what does this offer in terms of advantage? If you're able to throw fireballs naturally why would you ever need a device whose purpose is to throw fireballs. In fact, even if such things were created it'd be likely that they would be inferior to natural casting ability.

EDIT:

I do agree with your point about keeping tanks / airships out though. As fun as wargaming this is I don't actually want to see them implemented IC. I'm fine with defensive turrets though as long as they don't get too out of hand.

This is really an issue the GM should rule on though. What level of sophistication are we allowed to progress too?

well see that gun can augment the magic making it pack a lot more power to it and all, but anyway yes you are right in the end it is up to @Animus to decide what can and can't be so, but I am glad you agree that tanks/airships would just be too much for this RP.

EDIT: Man that post just felt all over the place for me. Long drawn out speech posts are not my forte @.@

On a completely separate note, the Cait Sith are currently looking for allies. Is there any race which wishes to befriend us nature-loving pacifists?

Would be all over that but 2 things prevent that
1. First I would need to actually be leader
2. In the event I do become leader the Cait Sith are literally on the opposite corner which would make it really impractical to have an alliance that literally spans across the whole map xD

EDIT: Also I forgot to mention whenever I have my character speak itll be in this color and within these 「 」 and finally thoughts usually go in ' '

Pfft automata...
Whats the use of the Artificing skill then XD, and considering by the time anyone gets to that point their will be a bunch of higher level players around.

Because Artificing takes a lot of time...

An airship if possible wouldn't happen until Practically 2 years or so into it. Like you need 6 max level artificers and a crap ton more artificers whom are proficent or better at it.

On a realistic note its not gonna happen... But I can dream.

Also the impracticality of it. Everyone can fly already. . .

That it is...

except maybe a aerial recharging station its kinda useless XD unless you manage to weaponise the hell out of it. which even if you do would just make it sluggish and easier to take down. so yea. maybe some light airships but that's about it.

I think what we've determined from this discussion is ->

Magic + Artificing = OP pls nerf

Especially since we started at turrets and ended at weapons capable of orbital bombardment.

Orbital is a little overstatement...

aerial yes

orbital no...

Think that if you fly to a certain height with any artifical construct it literally just gets destroyed or hits a invisible barrier and then crashs from the impact of said invisible barrier xd

(you know since you can't fly to the top of the world tree...)

I suppose that's true, though the amount of damage you could effect from such a height would be astronomical regardless.

well probably yes.

Although in consideration, Leprechauns are not mages, they can make some pretty awesome stuff but its substanially weaker without allys.

although as the equation previously mentioned. yes Magic + Artificing = op, I guess that holds true. but then again how many mages could you take up their.

perhaps their would be a debuff called altitude sickness if your up their for too long which debuffs your stats, mainly speed and strength, to prevent exploits. Which means that you would have to return to land for the debuff to disappear. Which means it cannot supply a continuous bombardment.

The game was made for warring between the races, the leprechauns can't do magic as well as the other races so... They get hella inventive.

I mean, if you think about it this is just another incentive for the races to ally together, specifically for the Leps to ally with a physically strong race that can assist in the heavy lifting of crafting (mat gathering, strength checks) and/or a magically gifted race to further boost the effectiveness of their inventions.

You could see it merely as another fold of genius in the game design.

Yup it is pretty much important that the Leps get ally's to make their inventions potent as hell.

Now imagine if a race somehow thought it was a good idea to slay the leps if they don't comply with Manuel labour...

you sir just enslaved a massive factory.

which means that the race leader would probably be a high priority target for enemy's that are against leprechaun ally's because once they kill the race leader then the leprechauns are kinda fudged...

Been away for only a day and suddenly an automation discussion has exploded.

Honestly, I'm not against all these advanced weaponry as long as they come with the supposed logical hurdles. If you're going to make some mega airship, the only people capable of building it would be those with really high masteries and you'll subsequently need high level mats. Then there's also the problem of non-allied races sitting there and just watching you make something that potentially rapes the shit out of them :P so while not very practical, it is possible. It's not like Lephrechauns are the race the only ones with such op potential though, Cait Sith could potentially tame the powerful beasts of Jotunheim as well and so on and so forth.

I will be forwarding the plot soon as well.

I have a bit of a counter argument for that, see the monsters from Jotunheimr can be taken down, as long as there is a sufficient amount of people to do so, as can be seen by SAO Season II right before the Mother's Rosario arc. While an airship equipped with magical cannons and all other sorts of armaments would be a bit on the harder side, but I can agree with your choice though as long as the way it is achieved is justifiable in every way then I can accept, but if that's going to be the case some war will be a result because like what race will sit around and let one race create weapons of war xD
