I can see bows being present as a secondary weapon, but the lack of techniques for them meaning they're weaker than blades.

I think bows can be their own class of weapons, after all, we just need to say that it was an update/expansion to the game, right? ;3
However, I'm not sure everyone will agree with me, but I think we should choose how they'll function:

-We can either go with @geminironin's idea of them not having techniques and thus being relegated to use as a secondary weapon, useful as support from the sidelines and before entering close-quarters, but not so much as a main weapon.
-An idea I was thinking of but thought not many would like it was good bows being quite rare to craft or find, making them quite expensive to use a lot, but they would have some rather powerful techniques and could have said techniques developed alongside melee ones.
-Or, another idea, being a weapon just like the others, with its own set of definitely good techniques, but in order to develop them, you need to use experience/points/whatever that could also be put into other weapons. Basically, develop one thing too much and you'll become weaker in another, such as focusing too much on bows and being at a disadvantage when someone decides you need a sword through your jugular, but wiping the floor at bow-range.

Other things, will it just be bows or will we have other ranged weapons? Of course, there's the whole class of stringed weapons, including crossbows, but what about thrown weapons (or were those already in the canon and I'm just derping up?)? Also important, the balance with other weapons, because higher level techniques will probably mean faster/more powerful projectiles, which may make for being able to snipe lower-level players without them having any time to react, so will we have any systems in place to keep melee competitive and survivable, like the following system from GGO, where the trajectories of bullets are shown for a split second?

I'm definitely supportive of the idea overall, it could make things interesting for sure, but I think we should make some decisions on how everything's gonna work! Over to you guys!

I am all for bows. It gives a lot more variety to everything. To be honest, I missed them in SAO anyway xD

(Also, bows and stringed weapons require ammo... more money for Sapphi)

I agree. Bows and ranged weapons would be a welcome addition.

Well, if that's what you want, that's what we'll have~

I personally like this one.

For simplicity's sake, I'd say that throwing weapons would probably be a support weapon and not a main weapon, while crossbows are a subset of bows, if that makes sense. Like, once you have enough skill with the bow, you can start using a crossbow.

As for the power balance... the laser sight thing could work. What do y'all think?

Just to clear up any concerns if we end up going the marked trajectories route to balance the power of bows, remember that the only reason Kirito is going full Matrix in those gifs I posted was because his speed stats were astronomically high, consider it more like a warning so melee players at least know where they're being shot at from, slow reacting players will still get hit pretty easily.

Anyway, my vote does go towards the lasers, it works well and looks cool (imagine big battles *_*), but if anyone has other ideas, I'm open to them as well.

To be honest, I couldn't really care if there were these laser thingies, but it does make sense. I mean, for somebody wielding a shield it would be pretty useful knowing the trajectories of the projectiles to block them.

All right, lasers it is. Now, shall we begin? The story starts just after the scene in the plaza with Kayaba, so everyone's just learned of the death trap that SAO actually is.

Also, yes, Kip was a beta tester. TsuMeTai was not, just to make sure that's clear.

I would say that Matsuta was a beta tester that spent a couple hours on it before getting bored.

Working on my post, sorry if it takes a while, I always get a bit lengthy with my first posts, no matter the RP! I'll be right in the action ASAP though!
