My nation is unconcerned with other nations. They will be expanding their territory, but it's likely no one will have issue. No one of importance, that is.

Seems like a bit of an odd choice for a game like this.

By unconcerned, I mean that while others will most certainly have opinions on the sudden annexation of other states around them, mine simply does not care. The affairs of organic beings are seen as petty and not of their concern.

What I have in mind is something friendly.

They are best imagined as a ecosystem of peculiar creatures ruled by large living, breathing space elevators more than a single species.

They're much more on the magical side of things I should note.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. It seems a bit odd to play as a species like that. A bit hard to get proper interaction when your guys don't care about everybody else.

Your civ though. I'll be interested to see how you do it.

Wow this blew up rather quickly.

<Snipped quote by Alfhedil>

Being able to mold impossible life forms and terraform worlds into places for massive mind totem things that go into space (like giant, organic space elevators I suppose).

They also may cause perversions of the mind to those that observe certain specimens of Anvyat.

They aren't all consuming beings, they just don't really seem to notice when their actions are killing millions of people.

I can already tell you this is a no-go

Kind of reminds me of Mass Effect, what with the Precursor Gates and all. I get that it takes while for FTL to get you across the galaxy, but what about the surrounding area? Are we just stuck using the gates or what?

It looks interesting but I'm not really a wordy kind of writer. Honestly not sure if I could play a game that requires a short story for every post.

To address your first problem, the answer is yes. Their will be hub systems that by standard FTL will be easy to reach in a few days.

As for your second one, I feel that at least in terms of Advanced Quality > Quantity. So long as the app/posts are of decent quality, do not worry about having to write a full length freaking novel.

Why do you not like them?

If it's balancing, they're going to be balanced, trust me on this.

Organic space elevators can be destroyed with missiles from a fighter craft, the molding can be fried with napalm and anything mental subversion related only works under long term exposure. Of which is reversible. They're not even that tactically intelligent since they don't even think they are ever at war anyways. And terraforming speaks for itself, it's a slow process and i'm pretty sure every other faction has it too in some shape or form.

What are the rules on magic anyways?

I am considering a new idea, namely an aggressive and arrogant cephaloid race called the Glorph Empire who are partially based after the Martians from War of the worlds as well as several other inspirations.
The have history with Humanity even before humans became a spacefaring race and that and many other incidents cemented the fact they are as belligerent with humans as possible.
they're generally treacherous and known that if given the faintest chance they'd conquer known space space without the faintest hesitation.
Of course with this galactic alliance thing going on they are pretty much kept in check.
They are also known to come up with various doomsday weapons and wondrous measures to promise them victory...except they almost always malfunction and cause more harm to the Glorph than to their enemies.

Because I dislike factions that exist only for the purpose of consumption and expansion. Unless I authorize one as a Big Bad to be used a story point, then I disallow them.

Magic has the sames rules as technology, be reasonable and do not go to OP.

If that's your reasoning, than you should be banning everyone since by faction isn't a "all consuming hive mind". They don't go and take over a populated a planet to eat everyone or because they want to expand, the context for what I described (killing millions without realizing it) is far more selective than that.

My guys don't just exist for mindless consumption and expansion. They're more interesting than that. By far.

For one they can be allied with and manipulated into fighting your wars for you.

Let me quote your post on the first page:

That last sentence in particular should be looked at.

I did.

Point is, they're not a "oh i'll eat everyone and flood the galaxy" entity. They're not expansionists, don't have a desire to eat everyone and are more complex than some "I wanna eat everyone for the lulz" archetype.

The part where they kill millions without realizing it is not a thing that happens because they're hungry or expanding. It's far more selective than that.
