Played the campaign of the two most recent Medal of Honor games recently (2010 & Warfighter, that is.) and had hatched probably my best, or least-terrible, roleplay idea in a while.
I'd already searched beforehand on the Guild for something similar and saw a roleplay based during the cold war, but it died out fairly quickly a few months ago, as squad-based RPs seem to so often do, which is sad as they seem to have so much potential.

I don't have any major plot ideas as I figured anyone interested would be willing to help flesh it out, but the general premise would be a team (4-6), or Task Force, of special operatives from the various American JSOC units- DEVGRU/SEALs, Delta squad (recruited from 75th Rangers and US Special Forces/Green Berets); or even foreign assets/operatives, with the goal of hunting and dismantling a terrorist organization and it's leadership wherever it may take them. As GM i'd play the role of a CIA coordinator and handler, and potentially have a partner to fill the role as a co-GM.

But, just tossing ideas and am open to any and all suggestions! Happy RPing!

This sounds like fun! I'm always looking for squad-based tactical rps. If you want to make it more believable for international operatives to work together, you could always make your own organization or just go with Tom Clancy's Rainbow organization.

This seems interesting. Hopefully there'll be a lack of dick-measuring, which seems to plague militaristic role-plays.

A multilateral force was something I considered but I think for convenience sakes i'd like to keep it under the umbrella of a Joint US Military/Intelligence spectrum. Although a large part of the job for an agent i'd imagine would be to establish foreign assets, moles, informants, etc. and having one involved isn't at all out of question. I just think for the purposes of this RP specifically, it'd be best if most of the participants used American characters, given the US's unique position as a leader within NATO and counterterrorism around the world.

Also: Would it be in bad taste to involve current day terrorist organizations- one in particular- or would it seem more ethical to use made up but highly coincidental names and methods?

I'm so in for this. Hopefully this one lives longer than a carnival goldfish. Most rps of this type tends to die quickly.

Makes sense to me, friend. Besides, it's your rp, do what you wish :)

And as for the terrorist organizations; as much as I would love to go kick some of their ass, it would probably be better to stay away from real names. Of course a fake name but extremely similar tactics and beliefs is incredibly fine in my book.

Combat moves quickly, Forum-based roleplaying.. does not. ;)
I suspect that's the biggest obstacle. But we'll try our best!

Edit: I figure if we have one or two more confirmed interests i'll just pop the OOC up with a character sheet and a (probably fractured) storyline. We'll see how much interest is garnered but i'd like a team of 6 if possible, +1 for myself, although 4 or 5+1 may be better to keep the story moving.

I'll begin to type up the background and character sheet template as soon as I possibly can! So glad this has gotten as much interest as it has so quickly.
Iv'e decided to name the roleplay Task Force Bulldog- which will subsequently be the name of the multioperational unit we'll be serving in.

Your character sheets will be completely your own, but I will determine a field chain-of command based upon them. Both the Army & Navy should be represented, so take the character sheets of the other players into consideration when creating your own.
If you'd like a role based outside of one of the 4-6 combat operators, feel free to message me and we'll discuss it but it's likely only one person will receive that role, if any.
I'll likely be adding and refining ideas to this and the story along the way until we've stopped accepting characters and the first IC post is made.

@Baron Leros

I noticed you said the Army and Navy specifically. While the answer is probably obvious, I just want it to be clear, are you going to allow characters from both the Air Force and Marines?

Most of these task forces are pulled from only the most elite units- Which are SFOD-D, DEVGRU & other SEAL operatives, and USSF. The Air Force does have a unit in JSOC, the 24th Special Tactics squadron, but this RP will be focused on ground operations, and that unit is primarily a SpecOps Air Support, which I will control as coordinator.
That being said, as the unit will include SOG units, or troops plucked specifically for CIA purposes, you may be a marine, yes.

The OOC is almost finished & ready to be posted. That will wait until the morning i'm afraid.
But here is the Character Sheet Template for those who would like to start that.

________________________________________________________________________

Full Name:
Nickname: (Will be most used among fellow operatives)
Birthplace:

Age: It takes most SpecOps troops years to gain the experience, intelligence, rank and training to become an elite. No younger than 23, if possible.

Rank: All SpecOps operatives must be above the rank of Second Lieutenant. SAD OPERATIVES (Special Activities Division- Usually Marines recruited directly by the CIA. Also known as “Black Operations”) must rank above Staff Sergeant. Your characters are elites, they’re experienced and their ranks should show that.

Branch:

Weapon preference: Be realistic. Use US Standard Issue weaponry unless the mission would require the deception of enemy weapons. Having a team full of guys with sniper rifles isn’t practical for almost any mission. Every circumstance and mission should be evaluated when selecting your character’s loadouts. A key to an affective fireteam is…? Balance. A base of fire of 2-3 guys (rifles, commonly FN SCARs & M16A4s) , a support gunner (sniper/LMGs), an engineer (light carbine preferred for mobility), and a Squad Commander (this is flexible)

Extra Equipment: (Beretta M9s are standard issue. Everyone gets one.)
