The world of Edoniras rushes forth into an age of Imperialism and Steam. Fueled by the the power of blue coal, a strange blue mineral that burns far hotter and far longer than coal, the nations of Edoniras, as well as a few of their Algaesia brothers proceed forth to build empires built upon blue coal and with many new inventions. Great edifices of technology and power darken the skies and seas of the world, monstrosities of industry and imperialism alongside the more mundane wonders. From the “steam-horses” of the Lancian region which have connected Edoniras even more so than the telegraph, all the way to weapons of war which have forced a way open into Hadricia for the empires to stake their claim. It is this new land which has become a focal point for many of the latest conflicts, since the colonization of the “new world”, and it is this land which for many, has shown that while industry has brought many wonders, there is a looming darkness on the horizon. Tensions rise between the empires, and industry is on a ceaseless advance, with even the younger nations starting to catch up to the established powers. The one thing it seems that the old monarchies and republics can agree on, is that times are changing…

Time’s a Changing is a Steampunk NRP set in a Pseudo Earth the world is very different from our own. Blue coal allowed for a rapid industrialization and development of technology that simply was not seen in our world. Airships, steam planes, mechs, iron ships, and tanks are only a few of the inventions that Blue coal has allowed for.

Blue coal was discovered in the early 1700s in this world, and the New World wasn’t colonized till the late 1700s(mainly due to political instability and a lack of naval development as more money was poured into maintaining armies to fight the other nations). As such most of the New World should still be under colonial rule. Our Pseudo-Africa, Hadricia, is now open to colonization, as the various worlds powers gear up for that fun party. The date of the RP shall start at 1860, January 1st.

And a map, while it is a Earth map we had trouble finding a decent steampunk map, so we settled on this. Feel free to modify the provinces as well, as it was only there for skrubs like me who have no clue how to edit a map properly(And by that I mean editing the borders of province, do not add new land to the map itself). Geographies of areas do not have to line up with Earth either, so feel free to make Russia less of a Winter wonderland or make Nevada not a desert wasteland.

This looks VERY interesting, but due to history with Duck over there and my particularly vicious mood at the moment, I think I'll hold off on joining another roleplay. I have a bunch of others that I'm in, and yeah.

Also, Duck, I noticed how you claimed little spots here and there across the globe. That's cute.

Before I get my app up, i'll just stake my claim to The Not-Ottoman Empire

It looks like a lot, but considering we are talking about the Later Years of the Ottomans, and most of this (especially in not Africa) is worthless and/or full of rebellious not-Arabs, there will definitely be drawbacks

The Sublime Develt

Territory:

Scarlet Color

Description of Government:
The Develt is run by the Bey, an evolution from the tribal chiefs who founded the predecessor of the modern Devlet. The Bey makes all final decisions in the nation, but he is aided by a group of advisors, who are composed of the Political Elite who were the personally selected by the Bey himself to reside in the Court with him, the Political Elite who managed the Provinces of the Empire, and the Military Elite, who were the highest ranking generals of the Land Army, The Navy, and the Air Forces, as well as the leaders of the Janissaries. The Head of the Divan is known as the Grand Vizier, and serves as the Bey's right hand himself. The lower ranks of the government are ruled by the upper nobility who are granted their provincial titles by the Bey, who in turn grant lower ranking titles such as counties to lesser nobles. Aside from the Divan, The Bey will also assign ministers from members of the Divan, who will then take leave of the Divan itself to act as their own branch. This feudalistic system has been in place since the earliest days of the empire, and perhaps its survival into the modern era is a testament to the slow nature of the Devlet to change.

Of note, is the Secondary Position of the Bey as the Caliph, the head of the faith known as Tawhid, a strictly monotheistic religion that dominates large portions of western, northern and southern Algaesia. As such, the Bey commands great respect by many, and is often looked to to defend smaller nations who follow Tawhid from invasion and subjugation.

Description of Economy:
The Devlet is not the most Technologically advanced of nations. Widespread conservatism has lead to the stagnation and gradual decay of the empire, which finds itself slightly behind other nations of Edoniras, though not too far to catch up once again. Though urban areas of the Empire make full advantage of the power of steam and coal, major sections of the Devlet remain agricultural communities as they were a hundred years ago. As the rest of the world looks to the future, the Sublime Devlet clings tight to the past. As such, the economy of the Devlet relies mostly on agricultural imports, textiles, and other rurally produced, artisan crafts. The most significant barrier to the development of the Devlet’s economy lies in the aristocratic structure of the state, as more and more enterprising businessmen try to make a living, only to have their assets seized by the nobility, they call to the Bey to reform, though this risks revolt or assassination from the Nobility. None the less, the large size of the Devlet, along with their strategic positions on major trade routes, makes them more or less self sufficient, the rise of aircraft and oceanic trade makes the need for economic changes greater at this pivotal point now than ever before. If the Devlet is ever to compete economically with the nations of Edoniras, trade must be free, and wealth must escape the clutches of the nobility.

Description of Culture:
An important factor to consider when talking about the culture of the Devlet is to know that the empire is not inhabited by a monolithic populus. The Tuje have conquered many different ethnic groups, many different religions, and span 3 continents. The Ruling people, and the ones who have spread the farthest are the Tuje, a formerly nomadic people who were enslaved upon migrating into the lands of the Gharavi. Though the influence of the Gharavi, the Tuje converted to the Tawhid religion, adopted a sedentary lifestyle, and picked up many aspects of art and poetry from the Gharavi. When the Empire began moving out, as the Tuje took control of The Empire of God, and turned it into the modern Devlet, the empire incorporated the Kemetler of Hadricia, and the Rumi of Edoniras. The Philosophical ideas of the Rumi influence the empire to a great degree, even though the Rumi themselves were openly hostile to imperial rule. Though they were killed en mass and the surviving Rumi expelled from the Empire, one can still see the influence of them in the arts and sciences. Tawhid is the majority faith of the region. Its call to prayer in the language of the Gharavi is heard 5 times a day, and its tenents of life influence the law of the land and the behavior of the people like no other force.

History:
The People who founded the Devlet, the Tuje, migrated into the area during the era of the Empire of God, a powerful imperial power who dominated large sections of the West of Algaesia and northern Hadricia. The People of this area, the Gharavi, quickly enslaved the Tuje when the crossed over into Imperial lands around the year 870. Now a slave populous, the Tuje were under obligation to adopt the Tawhid faith of their masters. Thus began the process of moving the Nomadic Tribal people to the far west of the Holy Empire, to fight against the powerful Kingdom of Rum, which though weakened, remained resilient to conquest. Eventually, the Tuje became tired of their second class status, and revolted against the Gharavi in the War of the Devlet, commanded by the young Slave-Soldier Osman, who is said to have had a dream where he was commanded by God to fight back against the corrupted Empire of the Gharavi, and to take control, and that if he was victorious, that God promised his descendants to rule the earth.

Osman and his rebels were successful, taking the city of Ikonya in the year 1006, and in turn, taking control of the entire empire. Osman declared the new state of the Sublime Devlet, and set immediately to work on repairing it, and preparing for conquest. For years, the Devlet waited in slumber, healing and growing, until Osman reached the old age of 57 years on, too old to go to war himself, but living to see his son, Arslan, come of age come of age and rise to the head of the Devlet’s army by the age of 33, and begin the Conquest of Rum on the heels of a devastating defeat the aging kingdom had faced. As if divinely ordained, the Walls of the Rumish Capital Fell to the armies of Arslan in 1046, as he and his soldiers poured into the city. According to legend, the moment that Arslan himself slew the Rumish Emperor Alexandros in battle, and proclaimed victory and rulership over the lands of Rum, that Osman died, leaving the victorious Arslan in control of the Empire.

Arslan would go on to become one of the greatest Beys that ever would rule, expanding the Borders of the Devlet across most of the North of Hadricia, and reaching far into Edoniras, before having to be expelled by almost the entirety of the surrounding nations. When the wars of conquest were over, Arslan returned, and set laws into effect that secured the most basic rights of the empire, including many protections for conquered peoples and minorities, and allowed laws to let Women have equal access to the rights of a citizen, and allowing them to work and own property, as well as protect the rights of Slaves and Prisoners. Arslan Commissioned the creation of a Grand Mosque to be built in Konstantinyye, the new Capital of the Empire, so that all may remember him and the glory of the Devlet. Arslan died on 1092, 5 years before the Mosque was completed. Arslan was buried in the Tomb of Osman until completion of the Mosque, after which he was exhumed and reburied in a tomb within the Mosque. The building was named Arslan’s Mosque in his honor. In a posthumous honor, Arslan was declared the New Caliph, a title that would pass on in his lineage from now until the end of his bloodline.

Following Arslan’s death, Osman II took over for an 60 year rule, and introduced massive reforms to the military, updating their tactics to better deal with enemies in Edoniras, and created the Janissary, and elite branch of the military composed of slave children collected from subjugated peoples in the Devlet, who would be trained from birth to fight. The Janissary proved to be deadly, both to the enemies that the would fight, and to the Bey himself, as Osman II was assassinated by the Janissary in 1160 while praying the the mosque dedicated to his father. They also proceeded to kill Osman II’s successor Mahmud 12 years into his reign for suggesting that the Janissary be abolished in a personal correspondence with the Minister of Defence.

Most of the Devlet’s actions past this point would be uneventful, save for minor rebellions and incursions deep along the Kemet River into Hadricia. That was until the year 1467, when The Rumi people declared independence, with the support of some states in Edoniras. The response was the quick suppression of this revolt using the Janissaries, and the brutal massacre of 1/3 of the Rumish population, and the complete expulsion of all the survivors. This brutal action would earn the ire of many nations, and a deep fear of what might happen to them if they were taken over, as well as showing other subjugated nations the potential consequences of rebellion. With this precedent hanging in the air, the Devlet saw little conflict in the next 300+ years. The empire sort of became soft, with little conflict resulting in little development in terms of technology. Art and culture flourished for a while, before stagnating like technology. It was not until 1700, with the discovery of Blue Coal, that the Devlet realized how far it had let itself go. With the formerly mild annoyances of Edoniras becoming powerful, even powerful enough to stand a serious threat to the Devlet, the Empire struggles to pull itself out of a social and technological decay that if not attended to immediately, will doom the Devlet to fall. However, this will not be easy. Most of the non urban areas of the empire remain technologically backwards, and the outdated government structure hinders economic and social development. Much now rests on the current shoulders of the current Bey, Abdullah bin Hassan Osmaniye III.

The United Monarchy of Scandine, Polanthia, and Litan
(Commonwealth of Scandinine-Polanthia)

Territory:

Description of Government:
The Commonwealth is ran by the Grand King of Polanthian who is also the Grand Duke of Scandine and the Count of Litan making his official title the Grand King of the Scandine-Polanthian Commonwealth. The Grand King is voted upon by all of the living members of the head dynasty, meaning that 9 times out of 10 the Grand King is a member of that dynasty. Once elected, the Grand King rules for life unless he abdicates the thrown. If this scenario happens, the normal voting process for the new Grand King begins and the Commonwealth gets a new ruler. The Grand King himself is the head of Internal Affairs and War, with him appointing advisors (typically close relatives) to help with Diplomacy and Colonisation.

Under the Grand King are the Governears, people appointed by the Grand King to rule certain areas of the Empire. The strongest Governear is Stanimund August, Governear of the Colonies of Północna Zjednoczone. Stanimund is in control of all of the Northern States (Not-Norway, Not-Iceland, Not-Greenland, and Not-Vinland) and he is also the overall colonial advisor of the Empire. Other notable Governears are Ivankof Vladimivich, Governear of Saint Ruthetersberg and Rurikia Alfanivich, Governear of Swinled.

Another high ranking position under the Grand King is the Kruszon, the religious leader in the Empire and ruler of the Chrześcijanin faith. The Kruszon is the person who crowns the Grand King after he is voted upon. The Kruszon lives inside the holiest Katedra in the whole Empire, The Grand Katedra of Ziemia Boga.

Description of Economy:
The Commonwealth itself is an advanced nation for standards around the world, with large blue coal mines in the colonies of the New World and and around the city of Ziemia Boga. The Scandine region of the Empire (Not-Scandinavia) is a mix of Agricultural and Urban areas, with a large factory base lying around the city of Holmstock. The Islands of Fieland (Not-Iceland) and Volcland (Not-Greenland) both have large Blue Coal composites, but these are difficult to mine because of the cold climate of the two islands. The Polanthia Region (Not Poland) of the Commonwealth is a very urbanized area with factories and mines dotting the region. The large cities of Ziemia Boga, Waraxe, and Kowack. The counties that surround Litan are mostly agricultural, with Litan itself being a decently industrialized city. Typically, the factories of the Empire work on making steel or utilizing Blue Coal.
In the New World, the city of New Kowack holds one of the largest blue steel mines on Earth, making it one of the most densely populated areas in all of the New World. Other large settlements in the New World include Północna City, Litterbasch, and Vladisaw, with majority of those cities also focusing on the Blue Coal mining industry.

Description of Culture:
The Commonwealth is an area ripe with different cultures, with different ethnic groups all around the nation. The main cultural group are the Polanthians, the founders of the commonwealth, and the higher class of the Empire. Scandines and Litans are also larger ethnic groups, and the New World is still partly inhabited by the native tribes that have lived there for thousands of years. The main language of the Empire is Polanthian, a language that has its roots from Slavian migrants who moved to the region two thousand years ago. The main and state religion of the Empire is the Chrześcijanin faith. It is a monotheistic religion founded around the levantine coast of what is now the Sublime Devalt (Not-Holy Land). The religion is based on teachings of Chrześ, who was eventually martyred by the early Empire of God before they eventually adopted the religion. Once they adopted it, it moved into where the Proto-Polanthians lived. Once the Sublime Devalt took the founding place of the religion, the head of it moved to Ziemia Boga, making the Kingdom of Polanthia (And eventually the Commonwealth) the defender of the faith, which meant that they had to defend Chrześcijanin's all around the world.
Other religions in the region are the Zydowski, a Chrześcijanin heresy, Pogański, a small minority pagan group in the New World Colonies, and a Tawhid minority in some provinces in the southern part of the Commonwealth.
The currency of the Empire is the Polanthian Franc, a gold coin with the face of Jianis Sobeska (Not-John Sobieski, the greatest Grand King in the Commonwealth's history who is renowned for his victory at the battle of Ziemia Boga against the Sublime Develt (Not-Battle of Vienna).

Description of Military:
The military of the Commonwealth is typically ground based with a small focus on naval and aerial combat. The commonwealth patrol the seas with Statki, blue coal advanced ships. They are packed with small cannons and the blue coal is typically used to make the ship go faster. If worst comes to worst the ship will ram an enemy ship with the captain igniting a fuse blowing up the blue coal on the Statki, taking down both ships with the explosion.
The commonwealth use Parowa Powietrza as the typical aerial vehicle for combat. They are large blimp shaped metal hulls with two wings on each side. Inside the Parowa is the large engine that houses the blue coal. The Parowa is equipped with blue coal-powered machine guns on the front and back and two cannons on the left and right sides, used for blowing enemy aerial vehicles out of the sky.
On the ground the Commonwealth divides the military into Infanti, Przodu, and Hussars. The infanti are equipped with typical military-grade outfits and rifles, with some of them also stationed on cannons. They are used as front line troops and are high in number.
The Przodu are the other non-horsed based troops. They are equipped with large Blue Coal-powered machine guns and military grade gear. At there sides lie a sabre that is used for closed in combat with the enemy in case of a charge.
The Hussars are a large part Commonwealth's army. They are equipped with military grade gear and they ride the steam horses. Robotic horses that are powered by blue coal. At their sides the Hussars have the Extendable Sabres. These sabres are swords with machinery powered by Blue coal that can push out the blade more for longer ranged sword combat. The hussars are also equipped with blue coal-powered machine guns.
The final, but most important part of the military are the Winged Hussars, the special forces of the Commonwealth's military. They are equipped with Extendable Sabres and compact pistols that can be fired. On their backs are Blue coal-powered human-aerial flying machines (Fancy names for jetpacks) that they can use to drop in on enemies if they need in battle.
History:
The modern Polanthians are decedents of the Slavian who migrated from the Swamperian areas into the areas surrounding Waraxe 2000 years ago. Eventually, the Slavians and Gerians interbred to create the Proto-Polanthian who eventually became the modern Polanthian. In 870, the Kingdom of Polanthia was established in the Waraxe and Ziemia Boga area. The Kingdom began to rival other surrounding states including the Empire of God, leading to conflicts and the eventual conquering of some of the territory in that Empire. The acquisition of the territory eventually led to the Sublime Devalt and the Kingdom of Polanthia to nearly border each other, with weak counties in between them. No conflict broke out between the two for a good amount of time, but that would eventually end as nearly all peace does. The two juggernauts of the world eventually broke out into war about a conflict with some of the counts in the border states between the two Empires. This original war only consisted of a few skirmishes and an eventual white peace between the two nations, but this would only be a sign of what was to come for the two nations.

Eventually a full on war broke out between the Holy League of Chrześcijanin and the Sublime Devalt with its vassal states. The Holy League was led by Jianis Sobeska, the man who would defeat the Sublime Devalt at the battle of Ziemia Boga and the founder of the Commonwealth. Small border skirmishes between the two Nations where frequent in the early part of the War until Gyen Sobeska attempted a siege of Ikonya by sending troops across the rivers and into the sea. The siege was close for a good amount of time, with the 100 thousand Polanthian troops nearly capturing the city until Devaltian reinforcements came in and they massacred the troops and publically hung Gyen. Morale all across the Commonwealth dropped which led the Devalt to push through all the way to Ziemia Boga. Jianis led 20,000 Hussars with him along with 120,000 regular troops against the huge advancing Devaltian Army beginning the Battle of Ziemia Boga. At first the battle was a stalemate until Jianis's hussars where able to push through one of the Devaltian lines of defense and they began one of the largest calvary charges in history, slaughtering Devlatian troops as they went. The Devaltian loss at Ziemia Boga led to both sides forging a white peace, with no side gaining anything in the war.

Jianis was hailed a hero, but his conquests where not finished. He set his eyes on Scandine, the jewel of the North. He began to march his troops and he quickly conquered the Scandine Territory until winter came, in which the First Hell March began. Tens of Thousands of Polanthian troops died in the March of Scandine territory, but eventually they sieged down and took Holmstock, officially conquering all of Scandine and leading to the creation of the Commonwealth of Scandine-Polanthia. After that, Polanthia took Litan in a conquest and Jianis proclaimed himself the Grand King. Jianis died at the age of 75, ruling for 65 years, and in his reign the Commonwealth expanded to be one of the greatest nations on the planet. Jianis's grandson Basil was crowned Grand King after his death. Basil would begin Pax Polanthia, an age of peace with the Commonwealth that would last throughout all of Basil's reign as High King. Basil also constructed huge monuments across the commonwealth to show his power over the populace. Basil's reign as Grand King was uneventful but it was important to the overall history of the Commonwealth. He reformed and gave equal rights to majority of the citizens despite sex, race, or religion.

The death of Basil led to the crowning of Jianis the Second. His reign would bring upon the colonisation of Fieland and Volcland and the victory of the Scandine Independence Revolt. The Scandine Independence Revolt was a large scale revolt against the Commonwealth that would result in the death of 250,000 people and the burning of Holmstock. The victory against the revolters led to Jianis being remembered as the High King that kept the Commonwealth together. He died in his sleep at the age of 70, ending his 50 year reign as High King of the Commonwealth. After his death a succession crisis began between his Eldest, but illegitimate son Basil and his youngest but true son Jianis the Third. This crisis would eventually go into a full blown civil war that would result in Jianis the Third being crowned High King.

Jianis the Third was the first to discovery the Northern Territories of the New World and his colonisation of the area was violent and mostly genocidal. When his troops first landed on the coast of the Northern New World they say that they shot down majority of the natives that where there. He continued to march his troops through native territory, slaying majority of the native tribes that he found, and the ones that he spared he put into slavery. The brutality of this led to Jianis the Third gaining the title of the Impaler, because he impaled majority of the slaves that where unruly under his rule. By his death at the age of 50, he killed a total of 100,000 people in cold blood. Soon after the crowning of his son Basil the Second blue coal was discovered. Once it was eventually founded in the colonies he began to put the slaves to work as miners until they eventually invented something more effective with mining and the slaves where freed, being sent of to be tribal in the plains of the New World colonies. After that, Basil the 2nds reign was uneventful and his death just came and went in a small blip of the Commonwealths history. The same went for the reign of his son, Basil the 3rd, who did nothing but create more blue coal mines all across the Commonwealth. Currently the 18 year old grandson of Basil the 3rd is ruling named Jianis the Fourth. He plans on expanding the Empire farther then what has ever been imagined and with the recent opening of Hadricia for colonisation means that he has a chance to be the greatest Grand King in the history of the Commonwealth.
