Sometimes I seriously wonder if Vets put animals down because they get off on it...
The last 4 times i've taken a pet to different Vets, i've been told "You can take him home... But there is no guarentee they will get better, you may want to consider having him euthanized." Then, i took them to another vet, who gave them some medicine and they were right as rain in a few days. Naturally, by this point, i've stopped trusting vets...
A few days ago, I got a rescued cat from a friend, his previous owners had lived just across the street from my friend and had moved house, leaving the poor bugger to fend for himself, my friend found him in his house, his fur all either matted or missing, he was going to give him to RSPCA, but I took him in instead, combed and cut the matts out of his fur, and bathed him. Well, after a few hours, i found out he was incontinent, I put it down to him being a very old looking cat. So, I've been trying him with cat nappies, but this morning I found some blood in there took him to a vet this morning. Vet told he that his kidney's were enflamed, as well as his bladder, and that he had most likely been hit by a car at some point. His kidneys were shutting down and he would soon die from blood poisoning, all I could do is make sure he doesn't suffer. Naturally, i took him to another vet to get the correct opinion... Unfortunately, this time, It turns out that the second vet gave me the same opinion as the first, I was going to take him to a third vet, but as I was leaving, he threw up a load of blood... Turns out that this time, I either have him put to sleep whilst he was only in mild discomfort, or have him wait through a lot of pain whilst he slowly dies. There was no choice.
Fuck... Granted I only knew that animal for a week, but... God dammit, I can't help but feel I could have done more for him... I never even settled on a name for him... My friend said he was called Dexter, but i kept calling him Harvey for some reason.
Rest in Peace, Harvey.
