Does anyone think blurting out a completely bizarre sentence mid battle could distract your opponent for a fraction of a second to give you an opening? Like, instead of saying, "from my point of view the Jedi are evil!" becomes "from my point of view the Jedi like twizzlers!" Obi wan is bound to think, "wait...what?" even for just a moment. XD

Maybe, but unless the characters have the same frame of reference probably not. i.e. if Evvie did that with Skallagrim he would ignore it as a non-sequitur, but if she did it with General Freedom he would pause.

It might not cause someone to pause in a way that you could take advantage of it... but it might make more than one person think your f*cking crazy.

And really, what's more fun than that?

It might also depend on how instinctual the person is at combat. If they can attack without thinking about it then they may automatically parry a swing as they are surprised over the sentence, while somehow who has to think through their movements may be distracted just enough to slip up, given what skallagrim said of the same frame of reference and also how much you personally know them. Obi Wan would be very surprised to hear Anakin say something random but if a random Sith ran up to say it then it would have little effect.

Freaking someone out by pretending to be crazy could in itself make them slip up as well. Maybe I could make a sadist bad guy who does that more to watch them freak out then needing an opening. "I'm going to eat your earlobes!" He whispers into their ear.

P.S. Evvie might just agree with the bizarre statement and think nothing of it, depending on what was said.

Anyone else notice how distinctly out of place Destroy The Godmodder feels?

Like, The Arena is packed with this slowly creeping lore that's enveloping most groups of roleplayers. There's this interconnected multiverse thing going on, and it's kind of coherent.

Only kind of though.

But then there's Destroy the Godmodder.

I ain't complaining, I love reading it from time to time. It's just an observation.

Edit: To quote Skallagrim's recent use of the word, it feels like a Non-sequitur in the Story that is the Arena.

People can have a "giant chicken randomly gets in a fight with a group of bandits for no reason" battle if they want, so I don't find it odd that there would be a godmodder thread. The multiverse does have the basic ideas set but would be hard for newcomers to find all the information about and know what's going on until we get it more situated. Even I don't know all about the dreamers, what they are up to, their enemies, etc. and would have trouble gleaming said information at a glance. A stickied multiverse thread would be quite handy, I dare say.

Once that gets going then more people might stick more with multiverse stuff, but there's still a use for non multiverse if you want a separate canon for certain ideas.

Speaking of which, anyone want to try a second attempt at fighting all of my heroes, but in a series of planned battles so it's not so chaotic and with people dropping out? If people do drop out we can easily edit in the plans to account for this.

Actually [@DJAtomkia], @LeeRoy and myself are fighting a two-vs-one. Vikings vs. Demon story-esque fight currently. Since you have a fondness for Viking characters, you can glean much from watching it and then challenge someone.

Sure. What's a character you'd like to try your hand with? I've got a large enough roster to pick to match your choice.

Awesome! I'd say Gunnaya (the second one on my sheet). All my characters thus far are low-tech, medium-low powered. Gunnaya would be the simplest to start with.

Alright first things first. Character building. Your bio looks great, but there are a few mild hiccups.

1 Flask of Flametongue Mead
This brew remains hot to the touch at all times, and super-heats the drinker's body, protecting them from any amount of cold.*
-2 Vials of Jormungar
Jormungar, another Gunnaya original, is a cocktail of highly reactive elements. When exposed to open air, they explode into a cloud of toxic gas, which takes two minutes to fully dissipate**.

*Saying completely immune to cold is a bit odd. If Cold McIcerson hits you with his fully charged "Ultimate Chilly Death", some bag-o-tricks potion probably shouldn't trump it unless it has a super penalty attached.
**I assume you mean, "in normal conditions", or does it have some special properties that protect say a wind user from blowing it away?

I noticed I don't have my character folder on me on this computer, so I whipped together a quick arena fodder. Check it and make sure it seems appropriate. It's important for both players to feel everything is well-defined and balanced. Never be afraid to raise a polite question. There's a complex tier system and all, but it's no substitute for taking the time and consideration to read each other's bios and talk it over.

Haha thanks for the advice. I've made a couple fixes to better clarify her abilities. Your character certainly looks like a daunting opponent, but Gunnaya's up for the challage!

Shall we move this to its own thread, and get things underway?

I generally just don't know where or how to get started, I am not really sure how this works in general other than knowing that people fight.
