Jay walked in front of the entrance of the camp that would turn him into a hero..

The Next Generation, for a camp, it had a lot of tech. There was a forcefield around it. A few guards were around the whole camp, he assumed he was being identified, so he could be let into the camp. Hm, the guard opened the gates for Jay, and Jay walked in. It was going to be fun here, he thought. For once, he wouldn't be in a horrible place, with horrible people.

The place was huge, cabins were scattered around. There was a river at the very of the forcefield, and people with powers were training, talking, playing, laughing, and smiling. Not only would he learn to be a hero, but he'd probably make friends, Jay thought.

He was going to like it here, an he was going to like it a lot.

The first few days at camp didn't seem much better than those out in the real world. Sure Alex had more food than he could eat and a constant roof to sleep under, but the daily failure of trying to control his powers wasn't getting any easier to handle. The instructors reminded him often that expecting to gain complete control of ones powers in just a few days was never expected and that he was doing really well. Alex didn't see it. After hours every day he could still feel the radiation hanging around him and watch the grass under his feet shrivel and die.

He spent most of his time alone in his own cabin were no one would be harmed by his uncontrolled powers. At least that's what he felt, the camp really wasn't that full and there was no need for anyone to share yet. The only interaction with others he sought out was for meals, even those he avoided the busier times.

After a week and a half he still had no friends. New people came in every so often and they seemed not to have any trouble finding friends. Most of them even seemed to be enjoying themselves. Alex just couldn't understand that. How could anyone be happy anymore the world was so awful, at least the world he knew had been.

So he sat on the steps to his cabin. Dark hood pulled over his head despite the warmth of the day, hoping for a reason to keep trying to appear and fix all his problems.

Vayla sat in her office over some paperwork. She updated the list of camp members and opened one file after another to add progress and information to each member of the camp. She took her job very serious yet with a lot of humor. Vayla was that kind of woman, who would be your best friend and mentor at once.

As she came to another file of one of the newest arrivers, she stopped. Alex Marran. Age 15. The boy had not been happy once since he arrived and Vayla doubted he's been happy before that either.

She closed his file and thought for a moment. The poor boy must have had it really hard. His powers were not something to easily control or accept.

Vayla Roseburn decided to look for the boy. She felt responsible for every single one in the camp and she liked to keep close contact. After all, everything that happened in her camp would come back at her. And she would rather have the kids be able to speak to her as a mentor and friend then a strict teacher.

She got up from her seat at her desk and made her way over the camp to Alex's room. She knocked politely and waited for an answer.

Alex sat on the bed starring into black space. Today he had a lot on his mind, mostly because he had time to think. He thought of the things from his past, trying to narrow down what ruined his life. It always came down to the first year he helped on the farm. Back then he'd been happy occasionally. Time and time again it came down to those years when his powers first started showing up. He decided his powers were to blame for anything that had gone wrong.

A tap tap tap echoed through the empty room dragging Alex from his mind. With a sigh he dragged himself from the bed and trudged over to the door. Outside was the camp counselor or something like that, Alex had seen her around. She didn't seem awful but like everyone else she seemed happy to be in the camp. He peered out the now partially opened door, squinting at the brightness. "What," He said quietly, not trying to sound rude but accomplishing it anyway.

Vayla immediately knew what was on the boy's mind as he opened the door. She had seen it enough in all the years she was leading this camp. She flashed him a little smile, but decided that's enough about happiness to show right now. Alex didn't seem like he'd appreciate smiles at the moment.

"Hello, Alex. I am Vayla. If you don't mind I would like to talk to you for a second." She paused for a moment. She was not that you have to listen to what I say kinda type. "You can send me away, if you want to. I politely ask for your company."

She left her sentence hanging and then decided to add. "Would you mind a little walk? You don't need to talk if you don't feel like it. Please?" Vayla waited patiently for him to give her an answer. Hopefully he'd allow her to have a chat with him. For all she knew, it was not going to be a you will be fine talk. He had that enough already. Vayla was different from the other mentors, teachers, or whatever you wanna call them.

She had opened up this camp and she was not gonna leave one single young adult hang. That's what she promised herself and she wasn't going to break it. She dearly cared for every person in this camp. Including Alex.

Alex peered around her at at the bright camp, then back to his own room. He needed to pick up the dirty clothes off the floor still, they were piled in the corner. With Vayla standing there a lot of things suddenly seemed like they needed done, not that he really wanted to do them any more than before.

Blank faced he turned back to Vayla. "I guess I wouldn't mind," he said, inching through the door so as to not let in the light. "Lead the way. "

He pulled the sleeves of his jacket down so it covered his hands a little more before shoving them in his pockets. He didn't look like a person ready to take a walk on a beautiful sunny day.

Vayla gave him a thankful smile and lead the way. They walked over the campus and she slowly lead the way to the training grounds, that none of the new kids had seen so far. Nobody was allowed at the grounds without her permission, and hers only.

The walk down the path that lead into the middle of a forest went silent. Vayla walked silently with the boy for about 10 minutes. Then she finally spoke up. "I have build up this camp basically on my bare hands. I am very proud of it. I worked hard and it payed off." She nodded to herself. Her black hair was up in a messy bun, yet she looked good. "The training grounds are one of the things I worked on for years. I really had my mind set on giving it the perfect amount of task, danger and fun." There was a long pause as Vayla watched the clouds in the sky. She was one for beautiful days. But her attention was still on Alex. "However, I want to show you one of those training grounds." She then walked off the path through a small 'tunnel' of trees and in front of them appeared a big clearing.

"This is the training ground that I like to call "the arena"." The clearing was surrounded by a half-ring of a grey stone wall. The wall built three stories of stone seats for campers to sit on. Vayla headed straight for the light middle of the arena. Clearly to see there were three red circles printed into the grass, each of them lowering the space of the arena. The first and biggest ring was big enough for six people to have a fight in. The second ring, smaller now, gave two people to fight a one-on-one fight but still gave them place. But the last ring was quiet small. Four feet from one end of the cirlce to the other maybe. That only gave the fighters as much room as for one step and there wasn't quiet a lot room to dodge.

Vayla lead Alex to the arena. She expected his powers to kick in and let the grass die beneath his feet.

Alex preferred the dirt path over the grass. He gave a small nod when she spoke, but no more. He wasn't one for conversation, and he didn't really know where she was going.

He followed Vayla through the grass, leaving brown grass footprints behind. When they reached the trees he was glad for the cover though it soon lifted to reveal an arena like place. It looked like a place where campers could practice by fighting each other. "Why are you showing me this? I'm sorry, I don't want to fight anyone. Vayla I really just, this is nice and I glad you worked so hard for your camp," he didn't look glad, he looked upset. "But if your looking for people interested in fighting I'm not the one your looking for. I'm a bomb waiting to explode, everyone here would be safer without me".

Vayla smiled at herself. That was exactly the reaction she was expecting. "I am not here to have you fight, Alex. I want you to sit with me." And with that she just sat in the middle of the arena field, her legs crossed above eath other. "Come sit down. I have something to show you."

Her smile was inviting and her eyes were soft. She concentrated on Alex, on his body, on every little cell inside of him, then she went through his veins with her mind, she was feeling his blood, but she didn't touch it, she went up to his mind and made his own body create those hormones that are responsible for the feeling happiness. She didn't go overboard with it, she made him just a little bit lighter in his soul.

Alex himself would not even feel the change much, but it would lighten his mood. It's funny how the smallest changes affect our actions. Vayla waited for him to join her.

Kira sped to the camp, arriving outside of the gate. She dropped her 2 duffle bags to the ground as she took off her cap. She ran her fingers through her slightly messy hair. I love running but geez, the things it does to your hair. When her hair was successfully tamed she placed her cap on her head backwards.

She then looked around the area with curiosity.

This should be fun. She thought with a pleased nod before throwing her 2 bags over her shoulders. She eyed the guard in front of the gate with a type of wariness. Please tell me I need some sort of pass or something. However, she was lucky when the guard simply opened the gate for her.

She gave a 2-fingered salute before waltzing into the camp only to pause when she took in everything. "Holy damn." She mumbled as she looked around. There were so many people around her age practicing with their powers and talking and laughing.

She felt a wave of nervousness wash over herself. She talked with people at parties and had fun there. And she spent time entertaining kids with magic tricks and having fun there. But, she hasn't really had time to actually sit down with another person and just... talk.

She shook away her fears almost immediately. Come on, Kira. Don't be a coward. They are just teenagers. Your acting as if you are about to go against Voldemort or something... okay, bad comparison but you get it!

Kira nodded to herself, determination and confidence flowing back through her. "First things first... time to explore." She then took off as nothing but a blur to explore her new 'home'.

"No no.. you got it all wrong man, It's like this." Kamden proceeded to touch the ground and slowly formed a small mushroom popping from the dirt out of the ground. "Like this?" a very young boy replied, putting his hand to the ground. The grass quickly wilted, and turned brown. "Uhh.. not exactly. You're kind of doing exactly the opposite of what I just said to do." Kam ran her fingers over the grass as it began to regain it's color and shape. "Hopeless man, you're hopeless." the girl stated, giving the boy a playful smirk. He however didn't take it too kindly and began to sob, running away quickly from where the two had been 'playing'. "Kids are dumb." Kamden chuckled, watching as the boy took off in the direction of the nearest camp counselor.

Kamden had been at the camp only a few hours and was already causing a bit of mischief. Friendly enough to talk to anyone, she had given greeting to any soul that gave her the opportunity for a conversation. Some were more talkative than others, and some would rather not be pestered with fun- only take the camp as a serious investment. Walking a bit away from her location, she found herself at a picnic table. Climbing over the attached bench, she planted her bottom on the top of the table, letting her legs dangle off the side. Her eyes glanced around the camp, taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells.

Counslers or camp leaders, whatever, were weird. He was glad she didn't want him to fight, though he couldn't imagine what she wanted to show him. Alex peered around the area. The forest didn't seem so bad with everyone out of sight. Not everyone, he reminded himself looking back to the women now sitting on the ground.

Alex couldn't very well ignore Vayla for very long. "Um, well...okay" he said just above a whisper. He choose a spot a few feet in front of her, kneeling in the dirt. He looked his gaze in front of her, sitting silently for a moment. Then curiosity got the better of him, "what is it?" He asked timidly.

Vayla was happy the boy decided to sit with her. She thought leaving him in the air waiting wouldn't do the trick so she just continued talking.

Alex seemed curious to her. And she really hoped he would go with what she was about to do. It wans't a big thing after all, but if they succeeded it'd be a big thing to him.

"Look at this spot there", she pointed to a random spot not the slightest different than the rest of the grass. "You have a feeling inside of you that I know all too well. There's a wall you try to build up to keep that special feeling inside. You don't wanna let it loose and hurt someone or something. I ask you to focus on this very spot on the grass and let your feelings go right to this point. It sounds stupid, I know. Trust me."

She took a deep breath as though offering him to do the same. "Be aware of that strange feeling inside of you. Explore it. Let it flow through your body and when you feel ready just let it go out to one single spot. Don't give it permission to choose it's own way. Mark a path. There's no force needed, just a gentle push into the right direction. Accept that it's like a flame. It is not alive, but it still has live in it. Imagine how it grows when you breathe in and how you control the flame when you breathe out. Accept the fact that the flame is burning. There's no need to force it down. Do you feel how it's in your veins? Do you feel the flame lingering inside of you?"

So, this wasn't as magical and fun as Jay thought it was going to be. He learned his powers were kind of based off his emotions, especially anger. Which was not good. He punched another camper into a dorm by accident, well the camper shouldn't have messed with him. Luckily, he got let off with a warning, since the camper only had a minor injury. After that, Jay was avoided by other people, and then there were the bullies of the camp, which he was about to walk into.

Jay walked into another camper, "Huh? Oh, sorry..." Jay said. He did not want to get into another problem again, but then the camper had him by the arm. "Did you just walk into me, you little fuck?" The bully said. Apparently, teens got away with swearing like sailor here, and the bully was right when he called him little, the bully was way taller then him. "Look, dude. I said I was sorry-" Before Jay could finish his sentence, the bully rammed his fist into Jay's face. "Listen here, new blood. You better watch your back.." The bully said, with a devilish smirk on his face.

Jay was not about to take this, at all. "Screw you.." Jay said, holding his face. The bully threw another fist at him, but Jay caught it, and threw him into a wall. Jay looked at the knocked out bully, then the people around that were astonished. Yeah, Jay learned that usually someone in a crowd like that is a snitch. Jay was not having a good day, at all. Wait, did Jay kill him? Oh crap, is he still alive? Jay's eyes widened, but then the thug groaned unconscious. Jay sighed in relief.

"A home away from home, I guess," Conner muttered to himself as he arrived at the the entrance to the Next Generation camp. Looking around, he wasn't sure how to feel about his situation now. All around were people, which was typical of a normal summer camp and the like. However, just about everyone here was supposedly a Super-Human. Like him and Kimberly. Speaking of which....

"What are you waiting for?" Kimberly asked cheerfully as she pushed Conner from behind, causing him to stumble forward. After Conner regained his footing, he turned around to scowl at Kimberly, who only smiled back. Sighing, Conner decided to let it go, turning back around to face the camp once more. "We don't know what to expect here. We should be a little more careful-"

"Race you inside!" Kimberly shouted quickly as she ran past Conner. Stunned for a moment, Conner then raised his hand futilely as he shouted, "Hey wait-" before realizing how pointless it was. "Tsk, dammit," Conner muttered under his breath, then yelled, "Wait up!" as he ran after Kimberly.

Kira zoomed to a stop in the central area, a pleased expression on her face. She'd just explored the entire camp! She even tried to take her time in order to waste a little bit of it. She adjusted her cap and stretched her limbs as she took to wandering around. Her bags were currently sitting somewhere else, the location she would not talk about, so that she could explore and not have to worry about the bags holding her down. Besides, she fount this camp to be extremely interesting and she really wants to see how this place worked.

As she walked around to take a closer look she noticed evidence of a fight. There was a jock-ish looking guy knocked out against a wall. She raised an eyebrow and noticed another guy standing before him. Her eyes flickered back and forth between the smaller guy and the larger guy. "Hmm, seems I missed an entertaining altercation. Dammit." She mumbled before eyeing the guy once more with a tilt of her head. He could be interesting.

She then started on her way, now bored with the situation and was currently looking for something new to catch her interest.

Jay was in some pretty deep shit. He knew he was going to be sent to one of the leader of the camp's offices. Jay hated this, it was self defense, and the worse part is that the freaking bully got away with it, and lied. He wondered if he was about to be expelled already. Hey, it was still better than the place he used to live.

Jay crossed his arms, and walked to the office. He expected to get barked at, and he probably might even deserve it. He opened the door, "Mr. Night?" Jay asked, peaking through the door. Mr. Night was sitting in his desk, drinking his coffee. "Come in, Jay." Mr. Night said. Jay sighed, and walked in. He sat in a chair. "Why did you punch Evan?" Mr. Night asked. "Because he punched me first." Jay said, it sounded lest childish in his head. Mr. Night nodded, and sat his cup of coffee on the desk. "Couldn't you have handled this a different way?" Mr. Night asked.

Jay looked at the leader. Was he serious? "No, sir." Jay said. Mr. Night nodded, "I'm pretty sure you could've handled it differently." Mr Night said. "Maybe, you could've walked away. But instead, your anger got the hold of you." Jay was taken aback, Mr. Night just spoke like he actually knew him. "No offense, sir. But you don't know how I feel." Jay said, about to get out of his seat. "Why are you angry, Jay?" Mr. Night asked. "Because he punched m-" Jay didn't get to finish his sentence. "Why is the real reason you're angry, Jay?" Mr. Night asked, looking right into Jay's eyes.

"...." Jay thought for a second, and realized that he had no choice to tell. "Because, my own mother is afraid of me...I'm treated like I'm a freak, a mistake.." Jay said, he blinked a few times. "That my dad was never there for me..." Mr. Night nodded, "That's the first step of getting rid of your anger, son. You let someone know about it, now go on. Back to your class." Mr. Night said. Jay nodded, and got up and walked out of the door. Wait, how did Jay let up so easily to that guy, he's never let up to anyone..

For nearly an hour Vayla tried to aid Alex in controlling his powers. Alas the boy was too unstable. He had it set in his mind that he was a failure, and so that's what he saw in even his achievements.

After so many 'failures'- he nearly blew up one of the camps newer additions- the boy simply got up and left. He didn't need a camp counselor or anyone else to show him how awful he felt.

He sulked into camp, dark hood pulled over his head. He didn't really want to go back to his cabin. He didn't want to be anywhere.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

"Hello! We have some announcements for today, everyone!"

The students all looked toward the speakers around the camp.

"We have some great new today! We're having a tournament! Since it's gotten a little dull!"

The newer students wondered about this tournament, while the older students already knew about the tournaments, they were pretty fun. As usual, the rules would be announced.

"The rules for the tournaments are...
1. Don't injure each other too badly! We have armor for you, but armor is not always the perfect protection.
2. No cheating! If you're powers are really really powerful, don't use too much of your strength. You might kill someone!
3. Have fun! Don't be a sore loser or winner!"

"The tournament will start tomorrow at 8:00 AM. So, wake up early!"

The students were excited for the new tournament, it was going to be really fun!

"Also, the lunch for today is Pizza!"

The announcements caught Kamden by surprise, her gasp turning into a shy smile as she listened to the rules of the upcoming tournament. She wasn't really into fighting, but it was something to do and if it would help her learn to use her powers better, then she was all up for it. Pizza for lunch was a blessing, and the uncomfortable grumbling in her tummy meant that she was ready for lunch to happen in no time.

Kamden's cheerful eyes glanced over at the hooded boy who sulked into the camp. The smile across Kamden's lips fled into a small pout. She couldn't feel his aura by any type of super power, but just by human instinct that the boy was very dark. Deciding to put her business where it didn't really belong she called out, "Hey you!" towards the boy as she slipped off the picnic table and began walking at a relatively fast pace over to the boy. Reaching his side, she tilted her head a tad to see beneath the hoodie. He was very handsome, though she couldn't really tell how old he was because he had such a youthful appearance. "You want some company?" she asked bluntly, without hesitation.
