Cornelia had just threaded her way through the crowded bar back to Lady Callaghan's side when a man with a thick accent walked up to them and began to speak.
"'Scuse me miss," he said. "'Scuse me miss, but I didn't just 'ear you asking 'bout this vigilante character did I?" Cornelia turned to face the man. He had short black hair and wore a long coat.
Cornelia eyed him warily. He was rather muscular; strongly built, and his worn clothing made Cornelia believe that he was not a Technocrat. Besides, what Technocrat would be in the Rump and Harrow other than Lady Callaghan? And even red-haired Lady Callaghan was only there to fish for information. Cornelia decided that there would be no harm in answering him truthfully.
Cornelia pushed a wisp of her blonde hair out of her face before speaking. "As a matter of fact, I did," she answered in a neutral tone of voice, watching the man attentively and gauging his reaction. "Do you happen to know anything about the 'vigilante character'?" she questioned in what she hoped was an innocent voice, tilting her head to the side ever-so-slightly as she waited for him to reply.
Across the bar, there was quite a commotion as a man offered everyone free drinks. Cornelia raised an eyebrow; he was either already very, very, drunk, and would regret his offer in the morning, or he had a lot of money to spare and nothing to do with the money. She redirected her attention back to the man who had come up to her. It would do her no good to get distracted-and distracted by something so irrelevant as a drunk man offering to buy everybody drinks-in a moment like this.
