Name - Kinn-Dai-Shassna, better known as '
DJ D*Y*N*O' (it stands for 'Disparage Ya a New One'. He was, admittedly, stretching it a bit.)
Species - Tiss'Shar
Gender - Male
Age - 36
Occupation - Disc Jockey, Host of Radio 'Lectric 30, Electronic Musician, Swoop Bike Enthusiast, Ex-Swoop Gang Member.
Appearance - Facially, he looks a lot like this fellow:
...Except he has stripey patterns on him instead of spotty ones (plus, he tries to avoid looking that snarly). Unlike a lot of his kind, he seems to spend a disproportionate amount of his time leaning forward in true Dinosaur fashion. He has a normal amount of muscle for his kind... that is to say, a lot of muscle in his Theropodal legs, and rather lean everywhere else.
Apparel - Like most of his kind, he tends not to wear much in the way of clothes. His most substantial item of clothing is his signature vest, a fur-lined cool brown suede affair. Besides that, he also wears a pair of fingerless gloves and some leg warmers (yes, really), both of them black with red linings. On his eyes, he likes wearing strapless goggles with very shiny crimson lenses on them. Why? Don't ask him.
Weapons - He may not particularly like violence, but he's not stupid. He prefers Slugthrower weapons to Blasters, mostly out of familiarity. He owns an 8-Gauge Scatter Gun (which he tends to keep at his apartment/broadcasting cave) and an Adjudicator pistol (which he keeps on him). However, even without those, he hasn't lost touch with his bestial roots; he can still rip and tear with the best of 'em.
Equipment - He owns two Synthtone Boards; one at home to make his own music with, and the other being a smaller, portable version which he takes to the various events he's paid to be at. He rides about the place on his custom Swoop Bike, a modified MobQuet Overracer, which is painted white with bright Crimson stripes that match his own stripes on it.
Skills - Well, as far as music-making and DJing go, he's one of the better ones in 3030; technically, anyway. Whether you like the sort of stuff he makes or not is down to opinion :V. He specialises in Electronic music, a genre which he feels is especially underexplored in the modern age of constantly revisiting the same tired old Jatz records (not that he has anything against Jatz; he even has his own Kloo Horn!) He's also quite precise when speeding about at breakneck speeds on his Swoop... hell, his attention to detail in regards to not-crashing-and-burning probably translated quite well to DJing.
He also knows how to perform basic maintenance procedures on both his bike and his equipment, but his knowledge in this regard is quite specialised and doesn't translate well to other machines.
But that's not what you're interested in, is it? (:V) Yes, he can fire a gun. He knows to operate them, and can aim straight. He's certainly no special forces marksman, though, which is probably why he owns a Shotgun. As previously implied, his claws do come in handy for tricky situations. Not just combat ones, either.
Flaws - As previously implied (again), he's not particularly well-suited to straight-up combat. He's no badass.
Also, though he's quite good at hiding it while on the air, he's a very conflicted person. On the one hand, he absolutely hates,
hates 3030 with every scale on his skin, but feels an obligation to continue living there because if he was gone then who else would be there to raise the spirits of all the other people less fortunate than him? This inner conflict often leads him to drink lots of cocktails and/or smoke suspect herbal substances in an effort to take his mind off it.
He also has difficulty trusting humans, and to a lesser extent, near-human aliens, owing primarily to his upbringing.
Personality - On air and at bars, he comes off as a very friendly and optimistic fellow who despises evil and injustice, but holds out hope that one day, things will change for the better, but until then he's there for the people to raise them out of their misery dumps without sacrificing proper awareness of the harsh realities of living in such a horrible place as 3030.
That's the persona he broadcasts to the rest of the world; the truth actually isn't that far from that, in practice. The main difference is that he's not so optimistic; he knows damn well that things won't change in his lifetime, especially with the Empire around, and if it does, then he certainly won't be the person to bring it. Sometimes he hates himself for this attitude, other times he just consoles himself with the knowledge that he's still alive and making music; what more could he ask for?
On air, he prefers to keep his cool almost 100% of the time; thus, if something pisses him off somehow, he's much more likely to just make some veiled snide remark about it. This goes double for anything having to do with the gangs, since he doesn't really want to piss them off, especially not Gorro since he's paying him protection money. Off the air, he's much more comfortable about exploding into rants about things he hates. The only exception to this rule seems to be the Pure Hand Syndicate, or human supremacists in general; whenever it gets brought up on the Radio, expect it and everyone who associates with it to get verbally savaged.
Also, he makes no attempt to hide his enthusiasm for Swoop Biking, both off and on the air. He'll scream about SPEEEEEEED if you let him. Not
that kind of speed. :/
Goals - Raise the spirits of the downtrodden masses, stay alive, make music, pay off Gorro's protection money, clip claws at some point.
Backstory - Kinn-Dai-Shassna has pretty much spent his entire life in 3030; he never knew his parents, because his egg got stolen from them before he was born by an especially hungry man. Both fortunately and unfortunately, the egg was then stolen from
him, only to be sold by a gang-affiliated sentient egg-trading ring. But
then the ring was busted by a local all-alien Swoop gang, calling themselves the Electric Dinkos. The gang itself, while involved in criminal activity, was known in the area for also being highly protective of 3030's average citizens, especially aliens under threat from discrimination. The gang took it upon themselves to track down the Eggs' respective parents and return their children to them, but unfortunately it didn't work too well since it's pretty hard to identify lineage from the surface of an Egg.
Thus, some of their members, in particular one of their lieutenants, a huge Bothan called Eeaks Eetom, decided that they would instead raise the eventual hatchlings as their own, hopeful that they could instil within them the skills necessary for survival and virtue within such a horrible place. To this end, they literally set up their own orphanage, which they funded through their various criminal ventures.
Kinn-Dai-Shassna (most likely not his original name, but Eeaks was savvy enough to look up his race and that race's naming customs before he did the deed) felt out-of-place right from day one, thanks to his unusual body structure compared to his more humanoid peers. Nonetheless, he was treated rather well by his Swoop gangster parents, trained in basic gunplay, Swoop biking, Swoop maintenance, Swoop spotting... Swoop anything, really. However, Kinn always felt like he didn't belong in a Swoop gang, primarily because he didn't think of himself as a badass and tended to avoid getting into fights. When he was old enough, he preferred to ferry around gang members and lead them along Swoop routes rather than directly tackle with rival gangs.
He first got interested in music when Eeaks decided to show off his amateur Jatz skills, and Kinn, while impressed, asked him 'has anyone ever made something like that with machines?' Thus, Eeaks discovered that they
did, but it wasn't especially popular. Kinn took a listen to some of this 'machine' music, and was mesmerised. Nothing had quite captivated his attention like that. Pretty soon, he found himself spending gang money on a Synthtone Board so he could make his own stuff. The music he basically improvised off-the-cuff caught the attention of his fellow gang members, who soon made him designated bar soundtrack-provider.
Eventually, Eeaks told him that, with skills like his, he didn't need to stick around on 3030; he could sell his talents all over the galaxy. Kinn actually took his advice to heart; waving farewell to the Electric Dinkos, he soon moved out of 3030 and spent the next eight years hopping across various worlds, where he offered his services as a DJ to anyone who would pay, and occasionally sell his records on the street since he didn't especially trust any of the Human-run record labels.
Eventually, though he had told himself he would never return to 3030, he returned anyway just so he could see his old gang buddies again. He wasn't planning on sticking around, but things changed when he learned that, in his absence, a group of Human Supremacists, spurred on by the recent formation of the repressive Empire, had burned down the orphanage that he grew up in
and killed Eeaks Eetom. This enraged him enough that he seriously considered hunting them down and killing them all, but eventually decided against it, in spite of encouragement from his old Gang buddies, because it wouldn't accomplish anything but perpetuate the vicious cycle of violence.
It was this incident, though, that motivated him to stay in 3030 and set up his own radio station, Radio 'Lectric 30 (named in honour of the 'Electric' passion for justice held by many Aliens, but kept bottled up in the wake of human domination). His mission from then on was not only to make a buck, but also to make life halfway bearable for 3030's citizens, if only by figuratively keeping them company on lonely nights.
The station is currently headquartered in his apartment, which is, itself, located above a diner run by a very sarcastic middle-aged Mrlssti lady called Teema, who is known to occasionally fill in for Kinn on the radio whenever he's occupied elsewhere (she also hates Humans, to the degree that she only serves them begrudgingly). Both he and Teema have to pay protection money for Gorro the Hutt, as they run their business quite deep in Gorro's territory.
