We are the Watchers. We keep to ourselves, in our small villages in the forests of the world. We fight our wars privately, and leave no trace of our existence to the world. My name is Galahad of the Oakheart tribe. And our people are in danger. We are a small tribe, our village rests in the center tree of the forest. To the east, the Valehearts gather, under their queen, Ciara. They are in search of an ancient Watcher artifact, one that will unleash the wrath of nature upon their enemies. One that will harness an ancient magic that should never be harnessed. Our village stands in their way, and they are sure to burn us to the ground in an attempt to gain power. Our only hope is to find this artifact first, and bring it back. As leader of the Oakhearts, I know what I must do. For we are the Watchers, but we will not watch as our enemies burn our homes. Rules 1. What I say goes. If you have an issue with a a ruling I give, PM me. 2. If you go three days without posting, we will move on without you. I understand that people get busy, but I don't want people to be left waiting for days. 3. No god modding, fade to black, all the usual stuff. 4. Post your CS in the OOC, I will move them to the character page. 5. Have fun!
Appearance: I would prefer a realistic photo, since Watchers look almost just like us, or a written description. Insert a quote by your character here Name: Watchers can have names from a variety of cultures, though their surnames are all somehow related to nature Age: Position In Tribe: Are they royalty, a soldier, a merchant, a scout? What do they do? Skills: Personality: Weapon: Family: Bio: Other:
The so called Watchers are very similar to your everyday human being. In fact, if you weren't looking closely, you'd think they were just shrunken down humans. Most watchers are about the length of your hand. They're eyes are generally pretty big, an evolutionary tool that allows them to see very well at night. Their ears are also more rounded than an average human's and are designed to hear farther and better. One other difference is the length of their fingers. Watcher fingers are considerably lengthier in proportion to a humans, a trait that was developed after years of climbing. A Watcher child reaches the age of maturity at about 15, and if they aren't killed by some outside force, they can live to be 150.
Magic is not uncommon among the Watchers, and almost everyone has a little bit. Those who train in magic are able to harness the four elements, though they often excel with one. Magic is mostly used for healing and battle, though many hunters use the element of air to conceal themselves. A Watcher's items may be imbued with magic if they so desire, and if so they become especially dangerous.
Watchers are extremely in tune with nature, and many of their holidays revolve around such things. The Voyage of the Leaves is a festival surrounding the first fall of leaves, and the Festival of Frost is the celebration of the winter solstice. Disrespecting nature is also very offensive, and considered a crime in most tribes. There are many different Watcher tribes, scattered throughout the world, and most forests contain about 4 or 5 tribes. In Watcher society, all people are equal, and the more you help the tribe, the more respect you get. They speak both English and their own language, but this other language is mainly used for ceremonies. All Watcher tribes are monarchies, where the crown passes to the oldest child, no matter their gender. Rebellions are uncommon, but not impossible. The monarchy is aided in governing by the High Council, a group that consists of the current monarch and 6 other Watchers, who are elected by the people of the tribe, and carry out all trials.
Watcher tribes go to war very frequently, often to take a tribe's village for expansion. These wars rarely result in permanent rewards as the other tribes of the forest will consolidate their power to attack the victorious tribe. Watcher weapons and tools are made from wood and stone mostly, or a lightweight metal with a greenish tint known as leaftonite. Their armor is made from tree bark, leafonite, or leather.
An average Watcher's diet will consist mainly of nuts and berries, although they do hunt small rodents as well, and the occasional bug in extremely hungry tribes. Watcher hunters are extremely respectful of their kills, and bless the animal before skinning it.
A Watcher village is always based around trees. Most villages have many levels, which are reached through hot-air balloon like contraptions. Each village has a market place with many different shops. As Watchers love to dance, their town square is always filled with music and revelers. The royal palace is at the very top of the village, and is commonly built like a fortress. Should the village be attacked, the non-fighting citizens would be brought there. Watcher buildings are built from stone, wood, and leaves.
Watchers mainly use only two types of animals as mounts. Squirrels and birds. Someone of higher position in a tribe may have outfitted their mount with armor befitting their rank, though most of the time a mount is ridden unarmored. Mounts are often raised from birth, and must choose it's rider.
So in this roleplay, we will be playing as Watchers, a small race of humans who reside in the forests of earth. Our particular tribe, the Oakheart tribe, is currently at war with the Valehearts, over an artifact that our leader knows the way to. In an effort to stop the Valehearts, the king sends a group of warriors to find said artifact, led by my character, the prince. So, if your interested, say so down in the comments, and if you have suggestions I'd love to hear them, seeing as how this is a definite work in progress.
"I guess i got...carried away." Appearance: A lengthy creature just like all others. Myrid has a splattering of freckles paired with sun bleached hair and startlingly bold grey eyes. Name: Indus Horologium Age: 35 Position In Tribe: A soilder, making her way to the higher ranks. Skills: Riding: Indus Excels in bird and squirrel riding, or in most cases staying on as mounts do not appreciate riders other than their own. She has a tact at flying her own mount, Aquila, and is exceptionally agile. Archery: Indus has trained in archery for many years with the Oakheart army. She is skilled at mounted archery specifically and usually will at least hit what she is aiming for if not the exact spot. Personality: A hard worker set on her goals, Indus will not let anything stand in her way. She has worked hard to get as far as she is and does not intend to give up any time soon on her goals. She his head strong and feels there is no problem that can't be solved because there needs to be an answer for her. She is partial to at least try to solve things in a non-violent way, though this doesn't guarantee anything as her tolerance is very short for those of other tribes, and only slightly better for those of her own. Weapon: A simple wooden longbow granted to her by the army it has been thus modified with shades of blue by Indus for ascetic purposes. Family: Both her parents had been in the army at some point in time, Indus figures that's where they met though she doe not pry. None the less both are now happily positioned as food merchants gathering berries and mushrooms to sell at the market. While this is mostly due to their injuries; partial blindness, and one less arm than anyone is supposed to have, they are content. At least they are still helping their tribe. She has a baby brother, Pictor. Bio: As short tempered as she was as a child Indus has come a long way. Now days she strives to reach the highest ranks of the army as to make her parents proud. They always react with joy though it seems very distant and melancholy and Indus can't process why. She only ever tries to receive their praise. Their lack of reaction leads her to more and more daring thing, through more daring and dangerous stunts. She craves attention. Other:
Name: Yism Leafy Age: 57 Position In Tribe: Yism is a well respected captain in the army.
Skills: Magic: Yism has always been a talented fire mage, and with years of dedication was able to master his control over the element. But, being that he focused all his studies on it, his other magic abilities are quite lacking; or rather non existent.
Swordplay: What he lacks in finesse with a sword, he makes up for with his ability to smash things. Yism fights with a combination of a warhammer and fire magic. His fighting style is both renowned and feared in the Oakheart army.
Flying: He’s not the best flyer, but he can perform the basic maneuver.
Personality: While Yism does indeed enjoy the idea of a good fight, he is a surprisingly calm person. Polite, well mannered, knows his place, follows his orders, he is a soldier through and through. He lives for the Oakheart army, and treats his fellow soldiers like they are family. Yism isn’t a shy, but he is quiet; only speaking when necessary.
Weapon:
Family: Yism’s only remaining family is his senile mother.
Bio: Yim was raised by his father, Yarn, as his mother has only has always had a screw loose. Despite his father always urging him to pursue a safer career, Yism joined as soon as he was of age. Always striving to be just like his dad, who was working to become a general. But his dad died in battle as a captain. And because of this Yism decided to not accept any promotions, even after receiving many recommendations.
@smarty0114 (I accidentally left the name "myrid" on Indus's mount hider. That was her original name, would you mind changing it in the characters tag, i'm so sorry for the inconvenience.)
Archery: Lem is a highly skilled archer within the Oakheart army. His talent with a bow and arrow are immensely admired by lower-ranking archers and he is considered to be amongst the best of his profession. He has since been handed the role of a 'training officer' for archer recruits in the army.
Swordsmanship: Though Lem only has the basic skills in handling a sword, he much prefers to use a small blade or throwing weapons.
Agility: Speed is something that Lem can be a associated with. He is very light on his feet and can also scale heights at a fast pace.
Personality: Lem can come across as a little arrogant and vein. His self-confidence and over-assertiveness has often landed him in hot water a few times in the past and has often been his downfall. Despite this he is still considered a hard working member of the tribe. He will not hesitate when given an instruction and will carry it out the best of his ability. Though, it may not seem he takes his work serious enough at times, his dedication to the cause is doubtless.
Weapon: A bow made from the branch of a yew tree. The arrows are also crafted from a yew tree branch, tipped with leaftonite heads. Sparrow feather's complete the making of the arrows.
A throwing axe with a leaftonite blade.
Family: Born in to one of the more wealthier families of the tribe, Lem had a reasonably good upbringing. His father, Ringard, a former politician of the High Council, is a highly respected member of the tribe. Although he is semi-retired and enjoys the finer things in life he still likes to get involved in the Council from time to time. Lem's mother, Herriette, is a house proud Watcher, who's hobby's are to help with the cooking of the feasts for the seasonal festivals. The Bloom family also consists of their four daughter's ,Gretchen, Coral, Rosetta and Daisy, who are all older than Lem, who is their only son. Each sister has their own role within the tribe, though they all now have infant Watchers to nurture.
Bio: As mentioned above, Lem, along wth his four sisters, had a reasonably stable upbringing, He was taught how a Watcher should behave and learned of their culture and heritage. From a young age Lem was fascinated with the power of the elements. He was most intrigued by the element of fire and learned the basic spell of how to cast small bursts of fire. He enjoyed lighting up the candles around the family home and the lighting of the logs beneath the stove in which to warm the stew. This was as far as it got regarding the elements of magic, as his attention quickly turned to that of mastering a long/short bow, when his father gave him the gift of a small hunting bow on the eve of the Festival of Frost. Since then, Lem has become one with a bow.
To those of you whose characters have ground mounts, the first part of this story will involve traveling via bird. If you guys would like to give yourselves a bird mount that's fine by me, just send me a picture of it and I'll place it in :)
Wow, AL of this really looks amazing actually, and the characters created already, very impressive. I'll see if I can get something posted by this evening :) sorry for being such a derp :p
@My Own Hero, your character picture reminds me of my nwn days :p
@My Own Hero Awesome I'll get that up when I get the chance. Our ground mounts will still come into this, but this first arc I have planned, they won't be especially useful.
So since I think we're gonna get started tomorrow, I thought I'd give you all a little insight into how this show is gonna roll. I know where we're going, but how we get there is up to you all. When we reach a cross roads I'll give you all two or more choices of how we proceed, and each one will lead to a different event. Death is possible but I'll always ask permission before knocking someone off, and when I do it will be in certain areas so that a new character can fill the void. So I think that's really it for now. If you have any questions or suggestions you can always leave them here :) I look forward to working with all of you :)
@I Own Cows Yes but it's not a very public thing. Watchers worship in private and their gods are very nature based. The most prominent ones are Arboria, Goddess of the Forest, Brakan, the God of Winter, and Aquaria, Goddess of Water.
