Yggdrasil Chronicles

The Tyberian Uprising

Welcome to Tyberia. A city state on the fringe of Asgard territory. With the Zephyr's quick but hostile takeover, Tyberia faces invasion and occupation. We, the people of Tyberia, do not take kindly to the Empire's enforced laws and build an organization in the shadows to rise up and drive Asgard out. Nobody has ever risen up against Imperial rule and survived past a month. We will be the first. We will show the world that the rule of the Zephyr can be shaken!

We few are unknown, but we do not intend to remain that way. We will rise above our Asgardian oppressors, above the Zephyr oppressing them, and we will spark the fires of revolution proper! Our endeavors must start small, but even the smallest action has a resonating impact. Stay strong in the face of adversity, do not give into your fears. Asgardians bleeds like any other, we will bring that fact to light.

--<::WELCOME::>--

Welcome to the world of Yggdrasil, fellow roleplayers! This is a vast world with near limitless possibilities! The world has been a love project of mine since my young days and thanks to @Vietmyke, it has been revitalized with a new face to bring to the guild! This particular RP is set in the period before the secessionists began making great strides against Asgard. We play as but one of countless resistance groups belonging to territories occupied by the powerful nation.

There is a massive codex of information available for your reference whenever you please. In this codex, you will find information on the many races that populate Yggdrasil, the great nations and the factions that divide or form borders, and the technologies that power civilization on Yggdrasil. We welcome you to our RP, our world, and hope to build more for it with your help. Please, leave behind a character sheet and we will review it prior to allowing you to join the story. Vietmyke and I have a vested interest in not only creating a compelling story for you, but to improve on your already notable ability to fashion great characters! Thank you for taking a moment to review chapter one of the Yggdrasil Chronicles: The Tyberian Uprising!

Harbringer Death to Asgard!

Member Seen 8 yrs ago

Appearance:

Name:
Darius Cezare

Age:
25

Race:
Human

Personality:
Blunt, impulsive and direct, Darius embodies the freedom of youth with near uncontrollable vigour. With little subtlety or patience, one could almost aliken his nature to the lance that he carries. Though the Knights Draconis have instilled in him the martial skill and tactical thinking required to fight his battles, they have yet to tame his unruly spirit and burning passion. Almost never seen without at least a smirk on his face, Darius will face any challenge presented to him head on and at full force, seeking to punch straight through it. Just like his combat techniques. Yet despite this, Darius holds great compassion for people, particularly the innocents. Looking at the atrocities done to the Tyberian civilians by the Asgardians quickly drove him into a fury, pushing for action by his Chapter and fellow Dragoons. However, with his usual lack of tact and eloquence, he failed to truly rile the leaders. Despite this, he still fights for the common people, whether it be at the directive of the Chapter Masters or not.

Backstory:
A victim of the Asgardian's warmongering, Darius' family was displaced from their original home into a refugee camp bordering Tyberia while he was still at the tender age of four. Upon arrival, his parents were able to eke out a meagre living through doing odd jobs and ends, often leaving the young Darius home alone in their family's little shanty shack to do as he wished. As a result, he quickly garnered a reputation for fearlessness and courage to the point of stupidity amongst his peers and community, climbing the tallest spires to watch airships pass, wrestling with scumrats for choicest pieces of junk which he wound then vend to the merchants for pocket money.Though he would end up bruised, bleeding and battered, it did not change his outlook on life or his approach. This idiotic bravery would soon prove to be a boon as he verged on his thirteenth nameday.

While his parents were out, leaving him to manage the house, the young Darius heard a snap and crunch as their corrugated iron door was broken down by a pair of Asgardian thugs looking for an easy escape route. Though they initially threw him aside like a ragdoll, the young boy almost immediately scrabbled to his feet and sought a weapon, or anything approaching one. Finding it in the handle of a well used broomstick, he brandished it at the intruders who laughed it off before turning away, until one felt a sharp jab in the small of his back. Angered, the two drew their blades and advanced on the teen who stood his ground, despite the shaking of his knees. It was then that a glowing green point emerged through the back of one of the thugs, followed by a gunmetal shaft. Before the other could whip around, there was a sharp crack and his flesh seemd to run before he collapsed in a clatter of armor plates. Two helmeted figures entered the hovel, garbed in red scaled armour and cloaks. As the thugs collapsed to the ground, they saw the young Darius standing defiant in the face of death...before he collapsed from shock and fatigue.

When he awoke, he heard voices coming from the veil that served as a wall. From what he heard, the two mysterious voices were Knights from the Knights Draconis and, after seeing the scene today, had decided that Darius was worthy of their attention as a squire. In return, they were prepared to offer his parents a better, more secure life. Though initially hesitant, Darius's parents were surprised to hear the voice of their son as he crawled in under the curtain. He would do it. If only to give his parents a better life. And that was the start of his career as a House Draconis knight.

While he was expected to be a diligent student, he was anything but. Headstrong, blunt and impulsive, he probably would have been thrown straight out of the Knighthood were it not for the extreme patience and understanding of Sir Alpharia. A mentor of many a troublesome student, he good humour and kindly face was enough to keep Darius in check...most of the time. Under his experience tutelage, Darius learned the intricacies of his chapter. Lancing. Tactics. Salamandermanship. Darius was slowly instructed in these fields, and his wild spirit was brought to heel ever so slightly, having gained a great respect for the Elder Knights...when he wasn't cursing their equal hard headedness.

Fastforward to the present, and Sir Cezare is now a respected knight of the Knights Draconis, known for his courage, stubbornness, and concern for the downtrodden. Extremely vocal against the actions of the Asgardians, he leads a small sub-faction of the Knights dedicated to charity and defense of the weak which, while greatly appreciated by those people, is frowned upon by the local chapter for their lack of neutrality, although they could not fault their actions. Thanks to his reputation it was not long before he was contacted by an agent of the Seccessionists, who sought to add his lance to their cause. Impressed by their blatant disregard for their chances of success, he sought to tip the scales in their favour, if ever so slightly.

Skills and Abilities:

Adept Lancer: Darius is an accomplished knight of the Knights Draconis, having participated in many skirmishes against various factions. Skill, instruction and experience have fashioned his lance and lance arm into one deadly weapon.

Adept Salamandermanship: Once again, as an accomplished knight of the Knights Draconis, Darius is experienced in the handling, maintenance and finer points of mounted combat on a salamander thanks to half his life being decicated to his training.

Novice Marksmanship: The Knights Draconis are not exactly known for their affinity with manalocks but thanks to recent technological innovation and necessity, their lances have now been outfitted with an integrated manalock of reduced efficiency and range. Darius, while trained in its use, is not exactly the most accurate shot.

Novice Tactician: With his skill limited to small skirmishes and reaction rather than actual planning, Darius' grasp of tactics is...poor to say the least.

Inferior Chef: Ever had food that looked so delicious it belonged on a nobleman's table? But actually tasted like it was dug out of the foulest of trashcans? That's basically Darius' cooking

Equipment:

Draconis Lance MkII: A newly designed, now standard issue lance in the Knights Draconis, the MkII features an integrated manalock in the lancepoint, accompanying the already deadly mana crystal pointed tip. When worse comes to worst, the Draconis lance features a shaped charge at the head which overloads the mana crystal tip and causes it to explode outwards.

Draconis Lance (Urban Edition): A Draconis lance which is standard issue for Draconis Knights serving in urban areas, this lance has the ability to be collapsed into three linked pieces which lock into each other. While less stable than the standard issue one, the Urban Edition does solve the problem of portability in a crowded environment and fits neatly into a three chambered sheathe worn on the hip.

Light Mana-resistant Plate: Darius possesses both the standard issue red Draconis light plate with decorative scales, as well as an urban version featuring more form fitting armour and leather rather than the heavier plates. Both of these are branded with the silver and red emblem of the Knights Draconis.

First question of many, I assure you: How expansive are weapons in this game? I read the technology bit and it makes sense, but how far can we go. I imagine melee weapons are ok and firearms are too, but any we need to stay clear of? Also how does mana/magic work? Not sure if I missed it, but can you use mana in terms of magic? like shooting fireballs (I think I read that in the codex, but not sure). Just curious before I continue

Firearms are quite expansive. They range form flintlock weaponry and lever action ballistics to old projectile based manalocks where they shot small mana crystals to newer model 'Focus Rifles' which draw radiation from a single crystal and fires a beam of focused mana. Melee weapons are still commonplace.

The only race that can manipulate mana are the elves, but magic isn't viewed in the same sense as it is traditionally. Elves can manipulate the properties of mana to create fire or ice, but it can't be used to trick minds or lift other objects. Magic has a very physical presence in the world and it must draw from mana either by crystal or liquid. If an elf is near a root of the world tree, they can forcefully draw mana from the root and use that. Most elves will even use their abilities to form mana crystals from other sources on the fly to maintain supply.

Ok, makes sense, I just didn't know if I would be able to use magic in a sense, making fire and ice has its uses I imagine, and being an elf helps.

@FantasyChic the ability to manipulate mana/use magic is also believed to be a hereditary trait, and is generally uncommon, though not rare amongst even elves

So...should I stay away from doing so? I wasn't going to go all out, like being a flame mage/ice mage type dealie, but having that ability, especially the ice bit, would help my character concept I got going on. If not, no worries, I still have a good idea.

Appearance:

Name: Genevieve Carmody

Age: 24

Race: Elf

Personality:

Carefree, thrill-seeking, and opportunistic, Genevieve is a well-known figure in the dark streets and a feared woman among the contempt. She doesn't back down from any challenge, even if the challenge seems impossible. She looks out for herself and has a very select few people she considers friends. She is not afraid to use not only her weapons, but her looks to get what she wants in any situation. She is adventurous, seeking out new challenges and contracts anywhere she goes. Fueled by this desire, and the promise of fortune, she is considered self-absorbed, vain, and cruel. However, she is loyal to her contract and to her cause to right the injustices of the world.

Backstory:

Raised by a father who liked to drink and a mother who wanted nothing to do with her, she had it tough growing up. The only person she confided and counted on was her sister Gwen. Thick as thieves, they would scour the streets for coin and food whenever their parents forgot about them. Gwen, who was a few years older than Genevieve, caught the eye of a local gang. Turning down their advances and offers only angered them in the end.

In the middle of the night, a human man named Keller, the leader of the gang and interested in Gwen, paid a visit to their parents. With the promise of fortune, all he asked for was Gwen's hand in marriage. Her parents were only too happy to give her up as it meant one less mouth to feed. Genevieve protested, but to no avail. No one would listen to the little elf girl who smelled trouble. Gwen, with no other choice, went with Keller if only to protect her family.

Years went by and Genevieve didn't hear from her sister except for the occasional letter. Crime was still rampant and her family never saw the fortune promised them. Her father, angered by this, went out to get his daughter back. Genevieve, fearing the worst, secretly followed him.

Needless to say, Keller wasn't happy to have this intrusion, called for his members to teach him a lesson. Genevieve watched as her father was beaten and bloodied until she screamed for it to stop. Keller called for it to halt. He was amused by the young, elf girl to have the gall to order him to stop. He summoned for Gwen to come out and held her in front of him, with a dagger to her throat. He looked dead into her father's eyes and demanded his other daughter. When her father said he already had a wife, Keller just laughed. He wanted Genevieve as a servant, not a wife. Knowing full well what that meant for Genevieve, Gwen fought back. Her father ran for his life as she pushed. Genevieve tried to fight back as well, but was captured and held. It wasn't long before Keller grew tired and, angered at his wife, plunged his knife into her, killing her. Genevieve screamed and pushed her way out. She wanted to run to her sister, but she had no choice and ran for home.

It wasn't until she neared it that she smelled the smoke.

Her home burned, her sister dead, her parents dead or gone. She had no one else to help her.

It was then that something broke in her. Angered by the violence and lack of punishment Keller and his band faced, she vowed revenge. She trained, honed her skills, and built up her reputation to get the jobs done. She always remained closed off from everyone, better that way less she get hurt again.

To this day, she still doesn't know where Keller is. Though she goes about her own business, she still looks around for any clue of the man's whereabouts.

Skills and Abilities:

Adept Spy: With years of being seen and not heard, Genevieve is able to slip in and out, slink around, and gather information without anyone being the wiser. This includes disguising herself as well as sneaking around.

Professional Dual-Wielder: Genevieve, having trained and had many uses for it, is able to use her daggers in a fight with ease and grace, making her a fearsome enemy.

Professional Acrobat: The streets aren't always narrow and straight, sometimes you have to climb, jump, and move to get to where you need to go. With style and poise, Genevieve is able to move with ease, which allows her to get to where she needs to be in the most efficient manner.

Novice Manaweaving: Although she has never done so before, due to her elven nature, Genevieve could make an excellent manaweaver, if she were ever given the training to do so.

Equipment:

Twin Crescent Daggers, Steel: Her trusty daggers, always at the ready. They are small, curved, and deadly in the proper hands. These were the first weapons Genevieve picked up and they have helped her ever since then.

Leather Armor, Good: When sneaking around, you need clothing that's comfortable, easy to move in, and unable to be seen easily. Genevieve can be seen in her traditional ensemble, which consists of a leather jacket, leather hood, leather pants, gloves, and boots. The armor is form fitting as well.

Gwen's Ring, Gold: Gwen obtained this ring in their times together and has never taken it off. It was given to Genevieve shortly before Gwen went to Keller. Genevieve can be seen wearing it at all times.
