Gonna try to pump out the ugliest + simplest implementation that gets the job done.

In the past, the few times I started on this feature I'd go down the rabbit hole of custom folders and the concept of leaving conversations. Would get too complex and then my weekend would run out.

It's four basic folders that you can move your convos into. For now, it's purely for your own organization and filtering purposes.

No way to mass-move them yet, but you can move them individually using a form you'll find inside each convo:



Until I make it easy to mass-move, I recommend starting off by starring the convos you care about since it's easier than going the opposite route of trashing the ones you don't.

In this initial release, the folders don't have any real significance beyond being simple filters.

- INBOX is the default folder that convos get put into.
- STARRED is good as a quick-dial system. It's a good idea to move the convos you're engaged in here so you can quickly find them and so that you don't forget about them.
- ARCHIVE is intended for convos that have pretty much run their course. This is where most convos should go once you're done with them: they're there if you need to reference them, but otherwise they're out of your way.
- TRASH is reserved for convos you don't even want attached to your account anymore.

Eventually I would like to think of how to give each folder more significance. For example, if you move a convo to the trash, it should actually get deleted.

Danger Zone: I didn't bother optimizing the feature for performance, so I may roll it back if it looks like it'll be a problem. I also didn't actually test it from any other account, so lemme know about bugs as usual.

Starred convos which receive replies should perhaps change the color of the notification bubble, or similar...

Already I noticed a slight oddity: by appearances, it looks like each of my PM conversations has only one participant - myself. (Yes, even those which were stared by others than myself.)

In my opinion, the left menu should be collapsible. It's a strange feeling reading everything from slightly to the right, and more often than not, RPers will be reading PMs instead of moving them.

Hmm... I'm inclined to agree - it's a bit awkward seeing a third of mostly empty space, especially in a tall window. As I see it, the folders would work sufficiently well as a single-line bar atop of the actual conversations - it's practically just four words, after all (and you can make them wrap around for people with very narrow screens).
Or just move them right of the convos for now.

Edit: Okay, if you make the window even narrower, they apparently do move atop of the conversations ... but then they take approximately half of my laptop screen's height.

It would be a nice compromise to let trash items decay and then ultimately disappear. Kinda like an operating system's trash bin but with no explicit "empty trash" button.

I considered the top bar concept, but didn't mention it. I believe that would be equally beneficial.

Update: Think I got it.

Yep, I'm seeing who is or isn't in a convo again.

When I move a PM from the Inbox and get a new message, it doesn't tell me which folder the new message is in.
(Not a big deal because I knew where I put it, but thought I'd let you know.)

Bug?

So I started moving my messages and started off at the last page. I opened each message on that page into a new tab so I can swap all the Inbox selections to Trash. Once I did that, I closed those extra tabs and went to my tab containing my last page inbox and refreshed the page. The Page now tells me "You haven't moved any convos into this folder, yet" with no option to go to the previous page and only an option to go back to the first page (Which I assume will start at the beginning again)

Question I have is should the page reload with the last x messages you have or use a "Prev Page" button to jump back a page?

EDIT: actually looking, cause I now have 90 messages, when I get to the 90th on the supposed last page, it shows that the next page button is active, which leads to the "You haven't moved any convos into this folder, yet" message.

@NuttsnBolts Damn, I need to fix the pagination.

I'm out of energy. If I can't figure out the fix immediately, I'll push up a patch that just makes all convos show up in the "INBOX" tab regardless of what they're assigned to. That way the convo system will be useable in the meantime.

Is there a bug that's limiting your ability to paginate your folders? Can you access all of the convos you've moved so far?

Or is it just a language issue where you're landing on a blank page?

If it's the former (major bug), then I'll figure something out. If it's the latter (just a confusing bug), then I'll leave it til I have time to fix it.

So What I am seeing is this to start off with:


With 89 messages in Trash and 1 message in started. I then move that 1 message to trash to end up with this:


Since there's 10 PMs, the Next Page icon somehow activates and when I click it, it leads me to this page:


If I then wish to go back through the messages, I have to go back to the beginning to cycle back through. I could press back on the browser, but doing so has the old messages and then I have to refresh the page to see what comes up.

I wouldn't say it's a major bug, more of a navigation confusion, but it was just interesting how it lead to the "No messages in this folder" page, yet I knew there was something originally there.

It shows on have no message in my inbox an I know I have alot never mind I see them now

on my private PMs it won't let me get into my folders when a click on it the page just refreshes
