Well, I do happen to be a guy xP I'm in the minority! It's so rare it's a celebratory thing! .

And I'm quite the opposite... I most play female characters (opposite in the way that I don't RP my own gender). Primarily because I think it's more entertaining that way. A lot more variations of character possibilities, if you ask me. If you RP a man, I kind of feel smothered, as it's almost always expected that said character has to be either some macho dude, or similar. Not a lot of things you can do, if you ask me.

But as a female character... There are so many possibilities. From the Damsel in Distress to the Badass Princess, to the Tomboy Princess... Thjere are a lot of variations of female characters, imo. More so than men, at least.

Woah!!! I had no idea! My apologies then ^.^'

I agree (: I quite enjoy making new female archetypes, and breaking the boundaries on expected roles (: so I agree with you whole-heartedly on that part!

I always seem to end up playing grouchy bisexual engineers/scientists/whatevers with an aptitude for firearms >.>

I mean you write what you know I guess.

But this is indeed a rare occurrence, oftentimes I'm surrounded by dudes on all sides.

You don't need to apologise xD Honestly, I'd say "if only", to the whole taco party thing :P wouldn't mind if it was 100%, at least.

I mean, it's not really because I try to hide my gender xP

I typically go for a healer archetype, or more commonly, a warrioress, as I like getting involved in combat (mainly because I used to play rugby), but this is the first time I've had a female character focus on plants. It's actually a personal hobby of mine, as I grow my own herb garden (:

I have basically the opposite of a green thumb...

Entropy seems to accelerate around me.

I generally go for the guns and science approach, since I'm rather fond of both irl, and that translates over to RP.

Your avatar. It's feminine, so I wasn't sure x)

Oh trust me, I've killed plenty of plants xD I do my best not too, all I've got to do is make sure they have proper lighting, and enough water, with healthy soil x)

Well maybe you can help me with Wes, about his Colt M1878's? I normally don't rp characters that use guns.

Mono says it's because (or might be because) I play a "Believably feminine female character without a huge libido" (not 100% verbatim, but close enough).

Heheheheh, I just sort of seem to kill plants when I touch them, tbph. I'm more a metalworker.

And I can absolutely help in regards to Wes' guns! You actually chose quite well for the time period as far as the 1878 goes, because other guns are either going to be single action (which is fun to shoot at the range, and less so when there are bullets going both ways) or considerably weaker - such as the Colt 1889, which uses the .38 Long Colt - which the military had to go back to using the older guns because the .38 simply would not stop charging tribesmen (Aleksandra's guns are in fact based on them, but since she's a brilliant metallurgist she sent extra strong materials over with a letter and had hers completely custom smithed).

Were the date a few years further along there'd be even more interesting options, even including such things as the ever classy Mauser C96.

@kapuchu
It's more that in my experience a lot of men playing female characters will create archetypes that they're probably masturbating to at night.

Yep (: well when you have a name that isn't gender-associated, it's harder to tell. Whereas someone named LadyMoon, or something feminine, would have me presume that they were female. And Kapuchu, is hard to determine whether it's masculine or feminine. I normally look at Username, and Avatar in determining what gender someone is, although I try my best not to pick a gender, unless I ask, or they tell me themselves. Like my username, and avatar, most would have a hard time determining my gender, but if you look at my history of characters, I predominantly play female characters.

I actually had help from a fellow GM, send me a polite PM telling me that the Colt M1878 would be the best choice for a man like Wes, so I just went with it. Yikes! That Mauser C96 looks deadly as hell, though I'm not sure if there would be problems loading it with the way the bullets are positioned.

By metalworker, what do you do? Any smithing?

With the C96 it's actually called a stripper clip, which you push the rounds off of and into the gun, which will then hold them and push them up to be fired.

And that other GM was quite right, the 1878 is probably the best choice for someone like him in this setting.

As to metalworking - I do indeed! I don't actually have a full on forge set up yet or anything, so I won't be making pattern welded swords anytime soon (I'd need even more stuff for that though). But I do make some choppy things or little trinkets - for example, as a birthday present for someone I'm planning on making a beer mug out of dark oak and mahogany, and cinching it tight with little steel rings that I would forge by hand. (There would obviously be a metal insert on the interior to actually hold whatever was in the thing)

I can see why you'd do that. To be honest, that's also kinda what I do. I don't so much look at characters as I do people's usernames and avatars. And also what they write.

Sounds like tricky business to me xD.

But how cool! I've always wanted to learn metalworking, I used to watch a lot of documentaries on how to forge medieval blades, and I have a keen interest in becoming a jewel smith, where I would make said trinkets, along with necklaces, rings, bracelets, etc. I guess you could call me a firebug xD. I think that's awesome that you're into that stuff. In fact, I think you're the first person I know that does that sort of stuff!

Precisely (: well, if someone consistently plays female characters, and I don't ever see them play male characters, I presume their female. But in your case I'm wrong xD

Agreed! Besides, we women have much more exciting things going on in our lives >.> like oppression! Fight for that Power LADIES!!!

Seriously though, us women have had to overcome a lot through the ages. It's only now in Modern times, that we see such freedom.

Heheheh, well, I am the definition of amateur who has no idea what she's doing. Necklaces, rings, etc, I do like those - though I'm more of the mind to make stuff like a small knife or somesuch. Once I have greater skill I'd go into engraving and etching designs on a small dagger or something.

I actually had an idea for a celtic leaf blade with the pommel on the hilt consisting of a regular blob of metal, but covered in a celtic knot made of woven copper and silver wire, obviously with some sort of engraving on the hilt too~

I'd be lying if I said that women didn't have to go through a lot of shit in the last century of so. Come a long way since you were allowed to vote. Luckily, the majority of the world does acknowledge women as people xP (or the majority of it, at least)

Now, if only the rest of the world would follow.

...Also, if anything I said might've come off as offensive, I apologise <.< Sometimes I'm not certain if I'm being an asshat or not xD

You'd be surprised how many incredulous looks I attract when I start talking guns at the same level as the people behind the counter at a gun store, or talking metalworking and swords at a high level, etc.

Don't even get me started on other things... yeesh

I suddenly have the temptation to make a gigantic pyre in the shape of the little female symbol thing, soak it in kerosene, light it on fire, and dance around it. That'd be fun.
