Knights be upon you.

Name: Linus Kolbe
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Race: Aretan Hume

Appearance:
There are no fair or courtly words to encompass the horrifying appearance of Linus Kolbe. He is by every impression a dead man who refused to lay down. His eyes, one milk-white and sightless, stare from a red, patchwork ruin of deep furrowed wounds and unspeakable burns, the whole of his skin and skull held together with crude wire-thread stitching and scar tissue, hair long since burned away. His voice comes as a shuddering rasp from somewhere in his chest, deeper breaths rattling in his lungs. Few know what further atrocities are visible on his flesh beneath the padding of his armor.

It works well, in putting the fear of battle into the Crown's foes. Unfortunately, it often has the same effect upon its friends.

Brief character concept:
Quartermaster and record-keeper. He has one good eye and can still swing a blade or hammer with the best of men. And one thing you can be sure of: He isn't afraid of getting hurt.

History:
Who was he, before he was left an embittered husk, cast off from the crucible of war? It barely seems to matter, when few can say who he is now. And following his last return from battle, Linus would have been forcibly retired were it not for his unwavering loyalty and a curious pressure from the clergy that he remain available for duty. A compromise was reached, and he soon found himself relegated to duty as Annalist and Quartermaster; Battle-ready, but kept away from younger, idealistic recruits, those who still believe war is all glory and bright, shining armor. It would not do for the impressionable to see the true, terrible face of war.

As with many older knights in the service of the Aretan crown, Linus is a veteran of a few of the kingdom's renowned campaigns. But what follows him more closely, more cautiously, are the whispers of other, lesser-known campaigns, rumored forays pushing deep into the hidden east. Campaigns of which there are no songs, of which no tapestries are woven, of which there are no writings and any discovered are burned along with their authors.

There are no certainties in this whispered hearsay. But the rumors -- as surely Linus himself -- refuse to die.

Man when I set out to create the Aretan Knight party, I was worried I'd end up with young glory hounds who have second thoughts about setting fire to mages or killing Eretol rebels. We've got a giant brute, a jaded veteran, and a guy who's visibly been to hell and back, all led by a noble-born, clean shaven Knight Captain. It's really picturesque, it'll work well.

Go ahead and add it to the character list. The Knights are now full up.

Just need two more Ytharien and we can get underway.

Sorry, we DO have five. Forgot to add Juna, who'd been in PMs with me.

Knights:
StoneDogg1, playing Konrad Falkenburg
Minato Kamikaze, playing Gerald the Colossus
Culluket, playing Linus Kolbe

You'd never think a guy named Linus would be a walking nightmare.

Ytharien:
JulienJaden, playing Annara en'Sammat
XB1996, playing Juna Hakallerva

So far it's looking like men vs. ladies. Hadn't expected that.

Just one more.

My mistake. I usually am fairly good with paragraphs, I think, but I usually write my bios in one large chunk.

Yeah I understand, it was just a precautionary statement.

I've been watching this thread and want to know how often you want updates. The frequency you want players to post is very important to me. I'd rather not join something I can't keep up with.

I'm hoping for at least one or two posts a week from everyone, depending on how quickly things move.

Awesome, 1-2 times a week is actually what I'm shooting for in my RPs, and I've got it in my head to try making a more morally gray elf-lover to balance out what we've got. I'll get something cooked up.

Well, damn. I'm away for one day and now there's no room for young blood in the knights... Ah well. Maybe the 'jester' (you were right earlier, less actual jester and more... court entertainer? Knife juggling/throwing and fire spitting, stuff he could actually utilize in combat...) left to join the Ytharien with the king?

The King hasn't 'left' to join the Ytharien. He's kind of a naive kid, defying his crown like he'd defy his parents, not a traitor to his own regime who convinces Knights to abandon the castle. All it is is a childish little fieldtrip, which is why the court of magistrates is annoyed and not panicked.

Also, I'm afraid the idea of a Knight-turned-Ytharien also wouldn't keep in the spirit of the Knights OR the Ytharien. It's important to know that the Ytharien aren't an infamous warband, but one of many elven groups. They're only significant at the moment because Alonso is buddies with them, but he's undercover.

Sorry you couldn't do your idea! As I said before, it's first come first serve, and I need to be sure I can rely on posters to follow through in a timely fashion.

If we lack for numbers, I may be filling the last slot myself as a holdover until we get our sixth.

Alright, I lied. Got a little excited reading over the lore and everything, so I got started. Here's what I have so far.

Liking it so far, I'll officially reserve your spot. I'm pleased that you liked the lore. It sounds like Aust is going to complement Alan, Juna, and Annara nicely. Being a newer member will make some plot elements for me easier when the time comes. *mysterious sound effect*

Meh, can't really think of anything very good at the moment. I'll try again after I sleep.

Both links work fine for me, but I'll add the images in hiders as well. I warn you, one of them is fairly large.

Worked for me once I entered the link manually into my browser. Aust really does fit the idea of elves I had in mind, by the way. I know they can be a bit cliche, but they're a classic, familiar element, which makes them easier to work with. Your look hits the mark, while your concept remains original.

I'm going to begin working on the first IC post. The history is optional on your character anyway, FateWeaver, could wait for ideas to build backwards. Go ahead and put your character in the char list. I'm going to set our status as full, but I may still seek other players in the future as the plot develops.

To all players:
Should go without saying, but as a courtesy to myself and the others, please let me know if you've lost interest, don't have time, or otherwise would like to leave the RP. I've left many RPs in my day, so really I completely understand, doesn't really matter what the reasons are. If you like we can even arrange for a dramatic IC exit.

When I put up the IC post, I'll send PMs to all of you with the secret information relevant to your faction.

Just finished my post. Let me know if there are any grammar errors or spelling errors. It takes more than one pair of eyes to find them lol. Also, Konrad wasn't being mean to Gerald, just busting his balls, like how older guys make fun or the "Young guns" at work.

Really impressed with the speed and quality of writing from everyone actually. I've been out of the forum circuit for awhile and I didn't know what to expect when I came back. If you ever want to lose faith in everyone and everything, try finding RP in mmorpgs.

Your post looked fine to me! I really couldn't have hoped for better in general.

Hey, @LifeInStasis would knights carry ranged weapons? I don't know the stance of Aretan knights and their weaponry assortment. Like, would it be far-fetched to say the Konrad had some sort of blackpowder weapon or are the elf-specific?
