So what's the climate like for this region? I imagine we're north of the equator, and the Prometheans are warmer than say the Soun'yei, but what distances are we talking about?

We don't need to be rigorously historically and metereologically realistic with distances, populations and climates, but a general idea would be nice. Shall we say the island is about the size of Europe, from Lillehammer to Granada, and Portugal to Kiev?

Also, it's hard to put a general "age" on technological advance, given that different cultures around the world developed at such different paces and in different directions (some jumped directly from stone to iron). I might suggest picking a human culture to emulate and following their general pace of advancement?

Post up later today.

@SavOrhchid Just as an FYI, the raid that happened on your people in my post would've been some rinky dinky village, and only five captives were taken. Nothing big happened. No looting. I hope that's okay.

@ClocktowerEchos I made a couple changes before posting what I showed you earlier, mostly stuff to clarify the "no, they're not trading" part. At least, not yet.

Hey @Shorticus, just curious about something. Is the ruler of Zaqir being called a Potentate a reference to Elder Scrolls lore and the Tsaesci Akaviri Potentates?

Nah, but really the only word I could find that fit what I was looking for was "dictator." "Dictator" seemed a dumb title, and Potentate has Latin origins. Prometheans strike me as our world's Rome (especially being named Prometheans, with Prometheus being the Greek mythological figure who brought fire to man). So... Potentate was the best word.

That's fine! c: I can use that to spark more military expansion, defense, and weapons creation.

I hate to ruin the magic, but I called them Prometheans because I thought it meant like, "first" or "before". Having taken thirty seconds to educate myself, I now know it means something quite different. You can all blame The Promethean film, and the Promethean Knights from Halo, for misleading my innocent and hapless mind.

So now I've damaged my street cred, it's time to get to the other business.

@epicberet I see you have a kinky fetish for climate information.

The "continent" is pretty much central to the world map (see first OOC post for the big-picture). I guess the equator is a bit north of me, going by that - so that should give you some idea.

As for the rate of technology, I'm actually quite happy the way things are to be honest. I made a point early on that if we followed the progress of human history and used it as a template, it'd take about 4,000 years to get anywhere - and no one wants that, not even you. Trust me, I spent like 2 days stalking your Facebook and have established a full psych profile.

@SavOrhchid There was a secret vote, and we decided to show our mutual hatred for you by not including your name in the turn thingy. I am sorry you had to find out this way.

Was there anything else?

@Frengo Huh. Okay, so let me just ask: is there any language in the world you associate with the Prometheans? For purposes of drawing inspiration for words.

My nation is borrowing a fair bit from people that it's fought in the past culturally. They like regulii goods, they have the Promethean calendar, they use some words from the Promethean language, etc. So, I'm very interested in language stuff for the Promethans. Maybe there's a better word than what I chose.

And what was the Promethean government like?

I envisioned that they spoke a crude form of Germanic; all guttural and angry sounding.

...I totally forgot you gave 'em a government sheet.

*SHAME INTENSIFIES*

I'll chew on that and see about reworking a little of my post. Potentate probably isn't the best choice. But now it strikes me that the government of the Promethean Empire isn't that different from that of Zaqir.

Also... Yeah, now that I look at it again, that flag definitely works as a Germanic flag.

Ooooh, let me melt your cold front, baby.

full psych eval

Then you know about the bunnies. NO ONE CAN KNOW ABOUT THE BUNNIES.

--------------

Works for me. If we can hand-wave everything, even better. It would mean most a central band of land north of Uthien wouldn't really get snow, except at elevation, and get a monsoon/rainy season instead of winter. South of the Prometheans and north of the mer-people would be Mediterranean or North-east U.S. climates, depending on ocean currents. [Take your pick!]

...oh dear, maybe I do have a fetish. O.o

Oh my dear little Shorticus, if only you knew how I really came across that flag.

Also, just in case you all think I'm being serious in that other post, I can assure you all that I was joking. We do not collectively hate SavOrhchid (I don't think?), and I fully admit that to my knowledge, epicberet is not a kinky climate sex ninja.

I am funny, you will all come to agree in time.

You could've gone with Despot or Tyrant, both of which didn't start out with negative connotations. :D Though with the Prometheans being sort of Germanic language-wise you could just call your rulers Kings, since I believe the word King has it's origins in the early Germanic languages.

EDIT: Even if it'd be a bit boring.

Meh I went with King for my Dwarves. I thought about making a new word, but I figured it would be easier to use King - because then everyone knows what I'm talking about. Not saying that was the right way to go with it, but it suited my logic.

Despot was on my mind and still is. King doesn't work because saurian rulers are all female. Queen works...

Maybe "Chief" and "High Chief" would work, too. Potentate still works, but I'd have to change its origin.
