Sebastian let one of the corners of his lip droop into a half-frown, fidgeting slightly as if torn over what to do. It certainly wasn't a crew member's place to get involved with the captain's eating habits, much less one as new as him, or as green as him, but he felt something urging him to say something. The expression on Dante's face and the insistence that she get some food down left the young man with the sense that skipping meals wasn't all that uncommon for her. He took in a sharp breath, put on a light grin and pointed at her plate, "Looks good, Captain. Enjoy your meal." And with that, he offered both officers a respectful nod, flipped his hat back onto his head, and headed out onto the deck.

After he left Dante looked at his captain again and said "So, what is he really doing here?" Avery sighed and looked at him, Dante moving the maps and pushing the food in front of her. She said "I have a task for him...if and when I can trust him enough to do it and I know he can handle it..." Dante's eyes got wide and said "you want him to help you repair that machine we found" Avery nodded, pulling the food towards her and said "If he passes and can last on the ship....but yes, I want him to help me bring it back to life..."

Engine was on the deck, trying to pulled Avery's bag to the cabin. But the bag was twice the size of the small fox robot. So she was having problems.

Sebastian tilted his head at the little automaton, still unable to hide his interest in the creation of it and approached slowly, as though it were as skittish as a real fox found in the wild. He knelt a few steps away from it, on its path so that it would approach him, rather than he approach it, and with one hand outstretched, palm up, he waited for... Something? He couldn't expect the little thing to sniff his hand like a friend's dog might. Lost in his own thoughts on the proper etiquette and decorum of how to "meet" something with a positronic brain, he almost forgot his surroundings until Engine was almost upon him.

Engine stopped and looked at him, tilting his head then let to of the bag and moved toward him. He did sniff him in a way, scanning him with its systems. Then after a minute engine barked happily and rubbed it's head against his hand, the bag forgotten.

Dante sat down as the captain returned to the charts and he said "so you want to bring that system back on line..then what? Rule the skies? You father didn't fix it himself for a reason captain" Avery looked up and said "he didn't because we were still under a pirate flag. Now we are not and no one will know what we have. I have to try at least, and that young man might be the way to do that"

"Way to do what?" Sebastian questioned, shouldering the door to the captain's chambers open, Avery's bag slung over his opposite shoulder and little Engine at his heels. The goofy smile he wore on his face, likely from the acceptance from the fox automaton, probably meant he didn't hear more than the tail end of the officers' conversation. It wouldn't be hard to fool him, still a bit more naive about the world than he would have liked to admit. "Oh, and your pet looked like it was having some trouble, so I thought I'd give it a hand, hope you don't mind."

Dante turned and then Avery said "of I had forgotten the bag was heavy today. Thank you. Dante, would you show him around the ship? Then we can have the role call" Dante nodded and headed for the door, pulling Sebastian with him and shut the door. He took him across the deck, his eyes seeming lost on his own thoughts. He said "you can share a cabin with me below deck. I have a desk area I don't use and I would like to keep you work safe for being lost by mistake. If your alright with that"

The young man's thoughts turned somewhat sour, just a desk?. He resisted the urge to sigh, instead focusing on the fact that the officer could have just as easily assigned him to bunk with the crewmen that tried to throw him overboard earlier. "That's um, very kind of you, Mr. Dante. I don't expect to be too much trouble, very quiet, you'll hardly notice me." Sebastian straightened the lapel of his longcoat after the other man released him, more than a little interested to hear about the layout of the ship, particularly the workshop.

Dante took him below and down by the kitchens where they could hear humming and singing. Dante smiled and said "that would be lady iris, our cook. She is a fine warrior with a blade and she is a wonderful cook. Just ask her for anything and she will get it for ya. Here we go" he opened the door to the left of the kitchen and turned on the light. Cabin wasn't the right word for it. It was huge, the space full of tables and tools. Dante shut the door behind him, smiling still. "This used to be the late captains work room. When he passed captain Avery wanted it to be put to use. You can have this room all to yourself. The spare bedroom is just off it"

As Dante turned to explain the purpose of the room, he found Sebastian already a dozen paces into it, leaning over the various workstations as he explored excitedly. His eyes were as wide and round as saucers, grinning like a child being gifted a sack of candy as he made his way around. He stuck his hand in bins of spare parts, shifting the contents left and right to form a rough, mental manifest of what he had to work with before carefully inspecting the various tools hanging from the walls.

Still elbow deep in a toolbox, he looked over his shoulder at the first mate, his smile not having diminished in the least, "The captain made those automatons, right? The spider? The fox? She doesn't work in here?" he shouted, ensuring his voice carried across the distance of the massive chamber.

Dante nodded and leaned against the wall. "No, she works in her workshop just off her cabin. YOu'll have to ask her to see it, the way in is hidden. HEr father had it made for her when the ship went under remodel after a massive attack. And Arachid and Engine are only the ones you have met...she had many more running around handling the ship in ways humans can't. And they also keep the men safe as well. But you'll more then likely like to find that out for yourself. When your ready head up to the main deck for role call" He laughed softly and left the cabin.

By the time Sebastian turned his attention away from the plethora of toys surrounding him, Dante had already departed, leaving the slim fellow all alone in the relatively massive chamber, jaw agape and with a slight tinge of shame over his own rudeness. He dropped his own bag on the floor to lean against one of the work tables, took one last look around in a giddy awe, and made his way towards the galley, straightening the lapel of his longcoat as he rounded the corner and stepped into the dining chamber.

He offered Iris a shy wave and a smile as he walked in. He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks, and likely she could see it as well, but he wasn't quite sure how to treat someone who's introduction includes "fine warrior with a blade" in all honesty. Slinking up to the counter, he meekly pointed at the food that was already bubbling in a pot, adding in a "please" and a "thank you" appropriately before taking a seat nearby, facing the cook, though he wasn't directly engaging her as he ate.

Iris sat down before him, putting the steaming food infront of him as she smiled. "You must be the new lady Dante told me about. Lady Iris as the boys call me, or mama fox a few call me. You can call me Iris. So what is your story lad? You wanting adventure and excitement that only the skies can give?" She pulled a canteen from her waist and drank from it, then put it back.

Avery was working in her workroom, the food eaten and the plates by the door. She was working on what looked like a strange stone in a pendent, her face messed up in a look of confusion. "What are you little one?...what was dad working on with you..."

Sebastian cleared his throat, almost choking when the woman spoke to him, it seemed his years spent in a workshop left him ill prepared for social niceties. "Yes, I'm Sebastian Benzie, engineer, among other things." He wiped his hand on his coat and offered it out to her, smiling widely enough to push his cheeks up. "I can't say I have much of a story, I needed a job and my professor pointed me in your direction... When I mentioned I didn't much care for the thought of being some dog for the military, that is." The young man let out a small sigh and took another bite of his meal, "What about you? I haven't met too many warrior-cooks. There must be a story there."

Iris smiled and said "well, I've been a cook since I was a small lass, a pirate when my father brought me along on the Shadowstrike for the first time. After a few years I left to work on my skills and joined the navy. After that I came back, a cook and a swords woman. By then my dear dad had retired so I became the main cook aboard. And I've been here ever since. So tell me....you sure you are wanting the pirates life?" She smiled as she refilled his glass, her eyes not leaving his

Sebastian couldn't meet her gaze, he knew that his answer wasn't the one she was looking for. "I'm here to be a free man. To design and build what I want to. If I have to fight for it, I will. I'm better looking down a barrel than a blade and I'd rather not have to draw either, but not afraid to, if I have to." The young man wondered if he should have just lied and said he was here for the money.

Iris smiled and said "well lad... You passed my test. This crew isn't in it for money or blood....we all want our freedom and to follow our dreams....none of the men here are killers. Some are freed slaves, some are running from their pasts...." She rested her hand on his shoulder. "Your going to fit in just fine here"

Sebastian smirked, offering the woman a nod, "Glad to hear it." He offered her a little wave on the way out, chided himself for looking like a child at a new school in the hallway, and pressed onward toward the main deck. The gait of the ship was smooth and steady, even at full steam. He was worried that his seasickness might pop up, or that he might slip at some inopportune time and break something, but thankfully his steps were sure and steady as he made his first appearance in front of most of the common crew. Taking a place at the rear of the throng, he kept quiet, just waiting to hear the captain and first mate as they did their duties.

Dante and Avery walked out onto the main deck and Dante called out "roll call boys. You know the order by now, all new mates will say their name at the end" the crew started the role call, some making it more humorous. Avery was smiling as she heard the names. Dante was checking the names off on his list, nodding when he heard them. Iris whistled when her time came.

Leaning against bulkhead, arms crossed over his chest, Sebastian patiently waiting for the regulars to finish their calls. He heard the crewmen from before, his first encounter with Glory's compliment. The man with the gearwork arm stood proudly, offering a hoot and pumping his mechanically assisted limb into the air. Jesse Thornburgh... he thought to himself, tucking the name away for memory later. He didn't know if he'd have to use it, but it was better to know than not know he figured. After a brief bit of silence, a few expectant eyes turned towards his direction, alerting him that it was his turn.

With a little shove, he pushed himself off of the wall and cleared his throat, tipping his head slightly, "Sebastian Benzie!" he called out just loudly enough for Avery and Dante to hear.

Avery smiled at him as Dante nodded and checked him off. "All here captain. I turn the deck over to you" Avery nodded and stepped forward, her eyes scanning her crew. "My friends. We have come a long way these last few months. After losing Captain Artemis two years ago and almost losing the ship, we have come a long way to get back into action. Now we have a new heading and we are all ready for what is to come. Do not forget why we are here, my friends. Freedom of the skies is our goal...and it will be..." She paused, reaching up to her chest slightly and flinching. Dante looked at her and said "Captain?" She shook her head and said "We head to the United Kingdom...so get back to work and if you need me I will be in my cabin..." She nodded to Dante who dismissed them then looked to see the captain slip into her cabin. Iris who was standing by Sebsatin said "That was odd...shorter then normal..."

Avery shut the door and cursed, her hand over her chest as she slid down the wall. She pulled her shirt down to look at the huge scar over her heart. She fought to breath, closing her eyes.
