Character Origin & Backstory: Born in
Queens, New York, Peter Parker was raised by
Richard and
Mary Parker. He'd been very intelligent as a young boy. Even in his toddler years, his family knew he was gifted. He never stopped asking his father, who had won the Nobel Prize, the question: Why. He was always dreaming of the future and what he could do one day, how he could carry on the Parker legacy, and what all he could give to the world. He was often taken to see his
Aunt May and
Uncle Ben, and his significantly younger cousin
Mayday, who lived down the street from them. Uncle Ben was Richard's brother, and they didn't always see eye to eye. Richard lived by the law and science, while Ben put his faith in basic human decency.
In school, Peter was never particularly athletic. He wasn't particularly suave or socially graceful. What he was, was a nerd. Peter constantly had his nose buried deep in the pages of his textbooks, and when it wasn't, it was in a comic book. After school, he'd often put an hour or two towards earning some college degrees over the internet. Otherwise, Peter was striking out with girls he never honestly had a chance with. His friend, who he often tutored, was the son of one of New York's richest men,
Norman Osborn, CEO and founder of
Oscorp. Norman's son,
Harry, often defended Peter from the insults that came with being smart in school. Harry always invited Peter to his parties, which was likely the only reason Peter wasn't completely alone socially.
Peter graduated as the valedictorian of
Midtown High. His parents were very proud of him, and so was his aunt and uncle. Harry's father suggested that he tell Peter about about a job at Oscorp just for him. Harry and Peter got jobs the same day. Peter, as a geneticist, and Harry in the management department. On the first day, like magic, Harry found a girlfriend in
Lilly Hollister, a coworker in Oscorp's PR department. But Peter also found love. Oscorp's facility was ginormous. It was one of the city's tallest towers, and every square inch of it was dedicated to a better tomorrow. It was just like a dream.
In a few weeks time, Peter had already developed a cure for patients who'd lost their limbs in a war across seas or through any other accident. The test patient was
Kurt Connors, a former Iraq veteran who'd lost his arm in a minefield before barely escaping with his life. Through the use of aa retrovirus based on the DNA sequences of an Iguana, Peter managed to provide a way to give those not lucky enough to have an X-Healing factor a means to regenerate any part of their body in a day's time.
The discovery made Peter an instant success. For the first time in his life Peter felt loved by people in general. He appeared on talk-shows, magazine interviews, and was featured on the cover of Time. One day, when he completed a lab report about the effects of
'P-2016', as his healing virus had been labeled, he was met by Lilly Hollister, who Peter'd heard of before, but had never met.
She took him too a sub basement of the facility. And when she took Peter inside, he was astounded. The basement was teaming with humanoid animal hybrids. Right off the bat, Peter saw a
Puma pacing back and forth in its cage. When Peter asked Lilly why he'd never seen this project before. She told him that it was because it was a secret contract for the military, to create the next-generation of super soldiers. She called it,
"The Zoo-per Soldier Project." Peter asked how the animals could ever act as soldiers. Lilly told him that they were given augmented intelligences to outclass any pureblood humans on the fields. Peter was silently shocked, it took all the honor out of fighting a war. But then Lilly then offered Peter a position as the lead geneticist in the department.
Peter declined, on the grounds of decency towards other nations. But then, in a final offer, Lilly said that it wouldn't be exclusive to the US, that they'd sell them to whoever needs it, or whoever can pay for them. Peter declined again, on the grounds of not wanting to commit treason.
So Lilly said, "Well. It's not for everyone." Then she knocked Peter out cold before dragging his body onto an operating table, strapping him down, and waiting for him to wake up. When he woke up, Lilly started talking. "Rise and shine, Mr.Parker. Today, you've volunteered for the Zoo-per Soldier Project. I lied earlier when I said we made animals smarter. We just augment humans and take their freewill. Believe it or not, you actually paved the way for this. It's wrapped up in two simple steps: First I have to alter your DNA, which is going to hurt. A lot. Then we lobotomize you." She jumped up and down, clapping.
She looked for the most unusual sserum she could find, avoiding ones such as the
Tiger-serum, the
Squirrel-Serum, the
Octopus-Serum, and so forth. Then she found an incomplete project, the
Spider-Serum. She chose it for two reasons, it seemed befitting of a man who was so socially awkward, and, being incomplete, would possibly have painful side effects. When she injected it into Peter's vein, he began to emit a green foam from his mouth. Lilly backed up, not knowing what it was. As it leaked down the side of his face, it ate at the table that was holding him. It ate the restraints off of his body, and it dissolved a bit of the concrete floor. Lilly ran away, believing that Petee might destroy himself and everything in the room.
It took him a minute to be able to think clearly and not want to smash everything. But once he did, Peter decided that he needed to get away from the place. Just walking out of the place Peter shoved some thingsmuch harder than intended, looked closely at things that weren't previously visible, ran very quickly, and leaked a sticky web out of his wrist. Just leaving the facility, he discovered most of his other genetic variances. Peter wasn't unsurprised by them at all, he was just being too objective to stop and marvel at them. On the way home, he just fell asleep. He didn't wake up for days.
However, days later, when he finally did make it to his house. There was police tape blocking the door. He also went to his parents house, which also was blocked. He didn't know what was going on. So he went to the library, where he used a computer to look up the news. It was a front page story.
Peter Parker: Fugitive. The Daily Bugle, New York's premier news source (sponsored by Oscorp), said that Peter Parker, former Oscorp employee, had allegedly murdered his parents using a trained animal. Then, after he'd committed the crime, he ran away. At the moment, Peter Benjamin Parker was the most wanted man in New York City. Peter looked around to see several people on their phones while they looked at him. So: Before the police could arrive, Peter got up and started running away like a madman.
Once he was alone, Peter thought about how he could prove his innocence, so he decided he would have to take on the case from a legal standpoint. He'd have to use forensic evidence to disprove the public's claims. But, Peter knew that it must've been Oscorp who'd framed him. So he decided that he'd, in the meantime, take Oscorp down with him. Specifically Lilly Hollister.
So, in the fashion of many superheroes before him, he created a costume and alias. He'd be Spider-Man, dressed in a dark blue Halloween costume with red features. But he realized he couldn't be Spider-Man all the time, so he created another alias, as a civilian he'd be Ben Reilly. He died his hair blonde and got a job at the Daily Bugle as an investigative journalist.
As Spider-Man and Ben Reilly, he's begun gathering evidence to prove his innocence and Oscorp's responsibility. He has yet to actually fight a supervillain or destroy any of Oscorp's work.
Powers and Abilities (What can you're character do? What can't they do?):▪Agility: Peter is double-jointed, highly flexible, and has faster reflexes than almost any other human on the planet. He can jump over one hundred feet high as well as two hundred feet wide.
▪Binocular-Vision: He can see extra far distances that allow him to precisely choose a point to jump onto. As a bonus, it pretty much allows him to look extra far for any reason.
▪Intelligence: Peter is a world class genius with degrees he earned from home in Genetics, Physics, Engineering, and Biology.
▪Night-Vision: Peternis capable of seeing in low-level conditions due to specialzedncells within his pupils that gather light more effectively than in a human.
▪Spider-Sense: Using short little hairs on the back of his neck, Peter can feel vibrations from the ground he is standing on or traveling through the air. They act as an early warning sense to anything that would rapidly approach him.
▪Strength: When pushing himself to his limit, Peter can lift five tons (10K lbs).
▪Swiftness: With the (significantly less than) proportional speed of a spider, Peter is capable of running at speeds up to 100 miles per hour.
▪Venom: From specialized glands in his jaw, Peter can secrete an acidic biotoxin from his canines capable of eating through steel in seconds. It has no effect on his cells or body, despite seem its caustic nature.
▪Water Walking: He is fully capable of walking, running, and floating on water by subconsciously manipulating the surface tension.
▪Wall-Crawling: He is capable of ascending vertical surfaces and crawling across ceilings using the hairs on his feet, fingertips, and palms. The most obvious limitations to this ability are the fact that he tends to wear shoes and that his gloves may be too thick at times, and the surfaces he chooses to attach to. If they are hot, cold, slick or pointy, he will likely have a bit of trouble.
▪Web Generation: He can launch web of varying density based on how he flexes a specialized muscle in his wrist. The web is not made from nothing however, and requires that Peter create large amounts of protein. He cannot swing for a long time, such would require him to stop and eat or take frequent breaks.
Sample Post (This is used as an introduction to your writing – try to keep it to around three paragraphs or more and try to include dialogue):Manhattan, New YorkA lot of people think it would be really cool to have the proportional strength of a spider. Who am I kidding, no American citizen would ever naturally think that anything having to do with a proportion is cool. The point is, no matter what they offer you, be it a candy bar, a dollar, or a job, never trust a corporate blonde.
*Thwip!*A runny yet sticky semisolid lurched out of a small hole in my wrist. It felt chilly and slimy every time it slithered out. It's like putty coming out your nose, then hardening in seconds. It's easier to not feel disgusted by myself if I don't think about it.
But that's just it. Every time I move, I feel it.
*Thwip*And when I don't move, I can feel everyone else. No matter what I do, I'm stuck feeling like a freak. It's almost like nothing's changed since high school. I'm still a nerd with a disturbed psyche and abnormal physiology.
"Hey, baby. Gimme some sugar." I heard a voice call down a narrow alleyway.
"Ugh! Get a job, loser!" The woman, disgusted, snapped.
"I got one. I take pictures. A lovely lady like yourself would make a fine centerfold."
Sounds like trouble to me. So, instead of working my wrist muscles purposelessly, I turned directions and swung off the side of a building and landed on top of a short little coffee shop. The man and damsel in distress were right there, thirty feet away.
As they walked by, in the relative safety offered by the sidewalk, many citizens actually saw the man walking up towards the woman. One stopped for a second. He turned towards the two, but then someone bumped into him. So he turned his way and followed his path.
I have no faith in humanity.
"Come on babe. Just one click. It's all I want."
"Get lost, perv!"
"Babe, I could get lost in you.." he said, inching closer.
"Get away from me!" The woman screamed.
So I intervened. I jumped off the roof of the coffee shop and onto the damp, litter-coated pavement below. I landed on the balls of my feet, leaning forward and balanced on my fingertips.
"Hey, guy. You need some help?" I said, deepening my voice to sound like a fellow thug while I strolled up behind him.
"Wha-" the man turned around with his jaw dropped, like he was saying hello to my gloved fist. He spun on the tips of his toes before hitting the ground. So I looked up towards the woman, smiling under my mask.
She screamed and sprinted out of the alley.
"This guy comes and you talk. I knock him out and you run away. Typical!"
