This is your story, you signed up for the imperial guard one day for whatever reason. Maybe you thought it would be an improvement? maybe family honor compelled you, or maybe you didn't have a choice in the matter at all. Point is, you were assigned to a slightly backwater agri-world to man the garrison there. Life is rather easygoing for the guard. There's the daily PE, the grind of waking up, listening to some superior bark orders at you all day, then going to bed. But no enemy of the imperium would strike at a world this deep in imperial territory, right?

Yeah, that's what your superiors thought too. The garrison has been neglected, men constantly get called away to do their duty as guardsmen on some faraway front, the PDF's worst worry is the occasional skirmish with the feral orks that infest the planet's sparse woodlands. Apparantly, other eyes saw this weakness too.

And so it came to be that no one thought ill of it when imperial navy patrols nearby reported signs of an enormous unidentified signature moving through the sector. No one, till perhaps the largest ork kroozer this quadrant had ever seen punched its way through the planet's orbital garrison. By the time your base was mobilized, orks were already raining from the sky in their crude landing craft. It appears the priests were right when they preached that complacancy breeds disaster.

So, that's the gist of the intro of this campaign. This play by post will be based off of the only war RPG by Fantasy Flight games.

If you don't have experience, that's alright, this'll be a learning experience for both of us. (I freely admit this is my first time GMing a warhammer RPG, though I do have experience GMing other tabletops and forum rps to varying degrees of succes.

If you do have experience, then you have my permission to preach rules to me that I misinterpreted, the end goal for everyone here is to have fun anyway. And correcting a GM on misinterpreted rules is part of the true tabletop experience.

The rules can be found here, there are adobe-reader editable character sheets to be found here

Good luck, have fun.

Colour me interested.

For reference, will we be making a custom regiment, using a pre-built of your creation, or a canon regiment?

Edit: I suppose it's worth mentioning that I'm rather familiar with the system, having run a few games in meatspace myself. I'd be more than willing to help out in regards to mechanics on both the player and GM side of things.

@SomeChap is in charge of the creation of regiments and such. And he really enjoys doing it as far as I know. The initiative for this came from him. He put me in charge bcause I have more general experience GMing things overall.

I put the system we are starting in into a google drive here. There's also other planets that you can find here As you might be able to see. the local regiments have a bit of a germanic bend to them. So keep that in mind

@Moonman

I'd say that overall, we should probably try to be from regiments either from the planet or from planets that are in the same system, however, do feel free to pick pre-made regiments or make your own if you have sufficient experience with it.

Ah, so we (as in the players) aren't all going to be from the same regiment, then?

Or am I misunderstanding you?

We could all be from the same regiment, or we could all end up being from different regiments.
It is being left up to the choice of the individual as to what they want to do regarding regiment.

Noted.

If you don't mind me asking more questions, do you happen to have a text document (or something of the sort) going over the local regiments of your creation in further detail? The names for most of them are fairly self-explanatory, but a few are less so. Namely the 46th Langenges, 97th Appingeloopen, and the 82nd Einring.

Ah, and I must say, props for the amount of effort you've put into this. I'm quite impressed.

I am always open to answer questions.
Plus, I am currently in the midst of producing such a document for the regiments local to the system (well, notable ones anyway), about half way done thus far. I would ask what needs explaining in particular? Their role? Or is there something more specific?

@SomeChap
I'm mainly wondering what type of regiment they are (e.g. Line Infantry, Armoured, Grenadiers, Rough Riders, ect.) and what variety of Rooty Tooty Point 'n' Shooty they prefer to utilize (Which is to say, what do they specialize in?).

Ah, yes, those will all be specified in the coming document along with some history (and even regimental colours if I can find a good software to use) regarding past deeds and or why they were trained in the first place.

I've got a character and a few backups done for when we start @Natsucooldude However the pdfs aren't uploading properly, so maybe just have to go off of a short written description and whatnot for each character.

Hmm, quick question, what should we expect on limitations for stuff coming from the extra books? Might experiment a bit, in that regard as well as maybe drawing up a regiment (Done it before, debating if I'll do it again still or not).

*Psyker tries to manifest powers for the first time*
*The entire world is sucked into the Warp while bloodthirsters maim all life on the planet.*
...Well damn.

In seriousness, it sounds like a cool concept, @Eisenhorn

@SomeChap Speaking of sucking things into the warp, the last psyker I touched was out of Black Crusade. Aaaaand he took a 30m sphere of the spaceship he was on into the warp with him. Needless to say, he didn't survive.

To be fair, it was an Alpha Legionnaire that randomed Warpsmith mutation, and had the worst perils rolls I have ever seen.

I promise a dedicated psyker will go better. Probably. Maybe. If the Empra wills it.
