@MonkeypantsBTW, you said that you have problems with when somebody's profile mentions they are "leaders in X". Presumably you have similar issues with wording like "best in X" or "among the best in X".
I say that you're a bit too sensitive here.
You need to take these with a grain of salt. Given the malleable nature of RPs there's no such thing as absolute best. So anyone who claims that only means that they're "very very good in X". It pretty much implies a kind of specialization or strength of the said faction. Nothing more.
I wanted to say this to you before but I got caught up in other things. Now I did.
Hopefully this could help you in the future.

<Snipped quote by Jig>If you used to be belligerent during the Great War then there must be a good reason why we can maintain good relations or supply arms to you.
Take West Germany, for example.
As remnants of the Nazi Empire they were at first prohibited to own any kind of military, not even a border patrol.
Then the Korean War and generally the rivalry with the Soviet Block gave the NATO enough reason to not only back up West Germany but even promote its military expansion.
If there's a new common enemy then I can see Hungary supporting you.

When exactly was the Great War (in terms of X years ago)? I'll work something out because my history is still in flux, but I'd definitely like to get involved in it - just need to know when it is.

I don't like fix dates when the storyline of the past is as malleable as it currently is.
That's why I said it happened one or two decades ago. Imagine something akin to WW2 but with different factions. I let you imagine up whatever details you wish to spice it up with.

One or two decades works super-duper well. I'd've accommodated for longer ago, but, actually, if we can say for certain that it's one or two decades, that's absolutely ideal.

How belligerent would the Western territories of the Hungarian Federation have been: would they themselves have been aggressive, or been the victims of any aggression of mine?

Up to you.
I did say that the League's strength was tested during the Great War so that means perhaps they were on the defensive at first.
I also assumed (though not wrote down) that the Italian and Swiss territories once belonged to whoever the nation in the center was, now taken by Franco-Iberia.

It has been a millennium since mankind fell upon the fires of judgment, and precious little remains of the world that was. We know it as The Great Cataclysm, an enigmatic disaster that tore continents asunder and erased all we had accomplished. Many tell interpretations of the event, and precious few clues have been gleaned from the scattered remnants of the old world, but in the face of time it seems the knowledge of what led to the terrible reckoning of our past is all but lost.

So?
Civilization was made way before 0CE/AD. Doesn't mean we start from there.
195X date exist just for our convenience. It's better than making up some fancy number. Makes things much easier to track.

Simple as that.

Willy, the date is 1520 RC.

It is the year 1520 of the Restoration Calendar, and the leaders of today will set the stage for countless generations to come.

<Snipped quote>
Why?
Why is it better to use some arbitrary date which people can make only little connection with?
I don't argue with Sigma but since this is your addition I indeed want to question if there's any good reason why we can't just use an 1950s date for convenience.

No, that was what Sigma set before I touched the OP.

And there is nothing objectively better with any date, it's just numbers. Beyond that, I'm beginning to tire of your continual need for things to be just the way you prefer them. Sigma said no WMD's on the OOC, you then you barge in and instead of just accepting it demand all sorts of nonsense explanations that are scarcely better than leaving it unsaid, and in my opinion are simply ridiculous. A magic kill sat that just sees all nukes all the time? What? Then when I or Monkey question you we're obviously being unreasonable and antagonistic for not accepting your every whim.

I'm not the GM, I don't have the authority to tell you to do anything, but I've decided to just say it here anyway.

???
Do you read what I post with half eye? Do you just skim over them?
Because what you accuse me with does not make much sense at all. So I am controlling the game for making a suggestion which practically every player accepted then (although then we apparently stepped back and decided not to without explicitly mentioning here). I am being ridiculous for suggesting there's a sufficiently advanced satellite network looking out for WMDs instead of just making up a poor explanation that nukes are impossible to make even though the knowledge how is kind of the basis of many advanced sciences which we're obviously using.

Pardon me if my wording is a bit sharp but your critique is quite a miss and not so much warranted.
I am deeply sorry for holding a discussion with people and actually wording my opinion. Perhaps I should remain mute and just do everything you say.

Sorry, I'm just such a mess for pointing out that you call everything you even remotely disagree with illogical and proceed to dismiss and mock every criticism of yourself or your ideas.

I'm gonna suggest that the above line of discussion is getting personal, which isn't helpful. I feel that maybe @Sigma should step in, set an absolute date (although there already is one in the OP so I have no idea why it's even in question) and declare absolutely yay or nay about WMD's (although I think he already did - nay). For what it's worth, 'maybe they could's and 'maybe they couldn't's surely play second fiddle to telling the stories we want to tell? This is fiction; we can make even science up if we want to.

Anyhoo, apart from working out plot-stuff with individuals, I'm gonna not wade any further into this, because it's looking dangerously close to playground squabbling and, the way this is going, I can't see this de-escalating, so I'd recommend you all step back and wait for Sigma too. GM is god and I'm sure we all agree that he gets the final say.

1st part, it does matter. Absolutely does. It is exactly this and its been repeated many times, civilization ended in the 23rd century of man. At that time is when things restarted at 0. We are in a new 1500's. Pretty easy to follow.

2nd, if you meant to say "my stuff is among the best" why not just say it rather than do what's pretty much power playing by saying mines best.

My ice sword of Kroc is stronger than everyone else's wwords! My chain mail is best made and strongest. My magic is stronger than all.

Its the same as saying my industry is best. Its power playing. If your intent was not to say mine was best, then just don't say it.

You're not on a high horse, quit acting like it.

Sigma set a date, 1500 years after the ww3 or 4 or 5 since history was lost :)

If y'all want an ever present threat I'd be down for making an NPC nation, or one controlled by yours truly, that is sort of like Mad Max. Worships mechanized warfare, cult like status, etc...

And it looks like peoole generally agree upon the tech being very roughly equivalent to the 50s/early 60s. I see a lot of first gen fighters, battleships with primarily cannon armaments, and the like.

Seeing as the IC will be starting rather quickly, now is a good time to discuss existing treaties (if you choose to that is.)

Our nations are very well aware of one another so going in to the IC with at least a little background would be nice,

ISO, I believe our nations wouldn't be at odds just due to sharing the same hefty burden, sigma XD

Inkdrop, NAU would be pretty quick to secure some semblance of peace with another major Atlantic power.

Jig, I think we decided our nations are pretty content. At least with west lamonia, there's be fairly open trade.

Nerevarine, I doubt our nations have had much interaction at all.

@MonkeypantsThat sounds fine by me. My nation is in a position to act as the gatekeeper to Europe, so it is good that they are peaceful until provoked.

Ok, how about we step back and get breathing room?

Cause right now there's an argument going for for downright silly reasons.

First Off.
@Monkeypants I know you find the "Best in X" offensive, but let us give people the benefit of the doubt just once for this rp. Would it better if Willy were to silghty adjust it to "Among the Best" as in, not the only and there being room for everyone.

@Isotope@Willy Vereb Please just stop, It will do the RP no good to build up anger over trivial subjects like this.

Willy, I placed that dating system for simplicity's sake, helping players sort themselves out when making their history. Now let's be reasonable and not let this issue rear it's ugly head again.
