Maxine strayed through the streets like a cat. She didn't really have a plan what to do but climbing over fences, hopscotching across the roofs or just going with the flow of the masses on the streets made the hours pass by. Without any obligations days feeled like minutes and years like hours, doing the same things on and on. Taking a walk, watching people or teasing someone. But it didn't bother her. Instead, it felt like a very long vacation and wasting time was a thing she got used to.
A long time ago, Maxine had realised that this city is full of extraordinary people. She had talked to many of them, wondered how some would hide their identitiy, because in her life, she had never realised that nearly every second person in this city is some kind of abnormal. And since she came to realization, observing people was her favourite occupation besides wasting time.
As she thought about it, an odd looking person catched her eyes. He had a mask on his face, which she thought was very beautiful. Her first thought was, that he was a street artist - maybe a frustrated one, because he wasn't really doing anything that someone would call a performance and she could imagine that staying on the streets for hours to get some change was really frustrating. - She watched him going down the streets and her second thought was, that he called it a day already and was going home now. 'It is the time of the day....nothing special', she thought next and then decided to follow him. On the way she changed to her nonsolid form, creating an illusion of a cat, while her real body was floating like billows of smoke right behind his back.
She followed him to the beach, and was surprised by the turmoil. He ran away and Maxine couldn't act that fast to stay behind him. After a few seconds, the illusion changed to a bird to find herself a place in the crown of a tree.
