Emma allowed herself to be corralled into an interrogation room with the rest of her rag-tag group. She stole one last glance back at Spook as the gates descended behind them. She hoped despite all odds that he would be safe, but in the back of her head she knew that he would more then likely be dead soon. But she refused to let that thought surface above her sub-conscious, denying its very existence. But there was no more time to think about Spook, for no sooner then when they entered the room they were threatened. A tip of a bayonet was shoved into her chest, demanding her name and her weapons. She had a knife, which she reluctantly dropped, but no words came. The guards were shouting and threatening them and Emma was frozen.
Luckily Lily kept a cool head, speaking for the group. Emma was embarrassed by her inability to take action- it had caused so many problems for her so far and was continuing to do so. Meryn pleaded their case, doing her best to make the guards see they weren't the cause of their problem, but the guards were not listening. Emma didn't speak, but she emphatically nodded in agreement with Lily.
But suddenly none of that was important. The wood demons were moving from the forest and Emma could only hope Spook found some way out. But there was once again no time to worry about Spook. The door to the room they were in buckled under the force of the wood demons, threatening to break and let them in. Only moments before Lily was about to be knocked out by the ornery guard, which likely would have followed by the rest of them being executed- but now it appeared the attackers were their saving grace. The other guard shouted for the crowd outside to run, and Emma was inclined to do the same. He ran out the door, roughly shoving one of the city boys into Meryn. The other guard stood, protecting the door. Emma took her chance. She glanced at Lily and mouthed, "Let's get out of here." She turned for the door, making a mad dash for the city's interior. She stopped momentarily to collect the boy and Meryn, grabbing their hands and pulling them along with her.
